We love our mophead hydrangeas, don’t we? Something else we love (according to Sean), is pruning. But wait… Sean doesn’t want you to do that!
Be sure to watch Sean’s video so you can take care of your mophead hydrangea properly this spring. Then bask in the praise of your neighbors as they confess they are green with envy!

Do you recommend bone neal fertilizer?

Yes! Bone meal is a great organic fertilizer for flowering plants. Low nitrogen and higher amounts of phosphorous will promote more blooms. And as a bonus, it's also a great animal repellent. Thanks for watching!

What happens tho when late frost kills off buds on old stems. Then I have growth at bottom with unsightly sticks poking up thru it all over. Are they dead? Can I clip those off? Or will they bloom next year? This happens almost every year. Tried covering when frosts predicted but still burn off and left with the sticks. Frustrated and about to give up on it.

Any stems that don't leaf out by mid to late April should be cut back to where you see new growth at the base.
