I am glad to be back. It has been a blessing, but sure takes time. I know and trust that God has it all worked out already! I am hoping to be able to turn out at least 1 video a week. God Bless.

Cheddite 209 vs Winchester 209 shotshell primers I just got my first batch of Cheddite 209 primers and did a careful measurement of them and the Winchester 209 primers I used both the micrometers and digital calipers to measure the diameters of the body of the primers. Aside from what a lot of people have said whereby the Cheddites being oversized and thus enlarging the hull's primer pocket which then made the Winchester 209 primers fit to loose, but according to the cheddite 209 primers I received, there's hardly any difference in their diameters The cheddite primers measured no more than .001 (1 thousandth of an inch) in comparison to the diameter of the Winchester 209 primers I then tried several random cheddite primers in the hulls, deprimed them, and then primed the same hulls with Winchester 209 primers. There was nowhere near the looseness which some people have been reporting, and in fact there was certainly an adequate tightness of the Winchester 209 primers in the hull after the cheddite 209 primers had first been pressed in and then removed from those hulls I just now finished shooting 10 rounds of my reloaded .410 shells. My following recipe is only to reference the testing of the Winchester 209 primers having stayed seated in the hull's primer pocket: Winchester AA hulls, 17gn of LIL' Gun powder (loaded on the hotter side of the recommended loads) , generic claybuster wads, and (x3) 3/8" chromium ball bearings. I didnt have any problems with the W209 primers backing out and that is even with a recipe that is a hot load.

I've got a stash of 400 Winchester 209s I'm hoarding for a sad rainy day, what with the primer drought we've been having, but I did finally manage to find a case of 5000 Cheddite 209 primers for about $350. I've never used them before and I'm going to have to dig through a bunch of load data to see what works but at least I can finally have some 12 gauge plinkers again. I can't believe how hard it is to find ammo and supplies these days...

Helpful video for a newbie. Thanks a bunch.

It is not just primers. Even just switching Powder lots can have a huge effect on Pressure and velocity. You also need to take into account how hard you push the wad into the shell and your crimp . All of which effects pressure and velocity.

One of the best shotgun shooters in the world puts his shotshells on the heater in the wintertime thus causing a cleaner burn and barrel.

I have heard of a very famous shooter who does this.

What I've been doing is if I'm. Going to change components which a lot of times I have to. I'll just pick the lowest pressure load I could find. That way, if it's a component that raises the pressure, it's most likely not gonna go over pressure so I don't have much to worry about and it's been working very well for me. Haven't had any problems.

This primer video is to me like romans 3:23 to a non believer. Having loaded rifle and pistol for over 25 years and never having to worry about different brands of primers. this just kills me. I have 4 lyman manuals and 20 manuals from powder company's. And I purchased 4000 federal primers to use so I am restricted on what loads I can make. Very good vedio.

What wad do you use for your rio shells as I can no longer find the VP20?

I haven’t loaded those hulls before. I would check with Ballistic Products and see what they have available.

I'm out of primers but I got my hands on about 200 magnum 209 primers cci. Should I load or wait?
@okshotgun2 жыл бұрын
Those primers should work great. They have plenty of loads out there that call for that primer.

I don’t understand not burning all the powder! If you successfully light the main powder why would it not all burn? It’s just that I don’t understand this.

i have been looking for the 209 primers and apparently they are no where to be found on line, any information?
@okshotgun3 жыл бұрын
I wish I had some good information for you. They are still making them they are either being bought up or used by the factory. There are lots of new folks getting into reloading. I am sorry I don’t have any better information.

What’s the difference in the fiocchi 12g 3 inch pre primed hull verses their magnum primed hull. I’ve asked many people and got the same answer. Their answer is ... fiocchi only makes one primer.... what’s the correct answer
@okshotgun3 жыл бұрын
I have only had experience with the Fiocchi 616 (209) primer. There are others that Fiocchi makes a 615 and a 614. I do not know what is used in the pre-primed hull vs. the magnum primed hull. I would refer you to either send Fiocchi an email or contact Ballistic Products. Sorry I couldn’t be anymore help.

@@okshotgun 10-4 . Yeah even though I bought them from ballistic products .... they are one of the ones who told me . There’s only one primer .... I’m like clearly that’s not the case . I loaded them anyway.... they shot fine with my turkey load . But after seeing your video I guess it frightened me a bit. I do know this .... it burns every spec of powder

Fiocchi Magnums or the 27mm high brass are loaded with the 615, all their other pre-primed come with the 616

Can I use shotshell 209 primers in my muzzleloader?

Does the muzzle loader use 209 primers ? If so yes like the t c pro hunter

The only ones in stock at Bass Pro are 209s, but they're 209 777s. Made for black powder rifles. $19/500 if I remember the price correctly.

Ok reload community... Who has the balls to make an open-source or general public affordable pressure transducer? Who? Who will try? All the reload data is mystical and trial&error until the best physics nerd helps us all out with that third variable of guesswork... Pressure. Someone please try.
