We know you love ‘em because we sell a ton of ‘em! But do you know why you should be waiting until spring to give your Itoh Peonies and Lavender a prune?
Hardy perennials, like Itoh peonies and lavender, behave differently than most herbaceous perennials (those that die back to the ground in the winter). And because of that, they need to be given special considerations when it comes the WHEN and HOW you prune them.
Sean goes into the particulars, including a special benefit for leaving your peony stems unclipped throughout the winter. Spoiler alert… They’re a condo for beneficial insects!

Just found your channel. I love how informative your videos are. I have one Itoh hybrid (Garden Treasure). I got it while I was in college (1997) I worked for Don Hollingsworth. I dug and divided it myself. It lived @ my parents house in Watertown CT until 2018 when I transferred it to Palmerton PA where it resides today. Last year it had over 35 blooms. I'm planning on digging it and dividing it this fall.

Glad you're enjoying the videos. I have 2 Itohs myself at home that I've had for for almost 20 years. A yellow variety called Bartzella. A terrible name, but beautiful and trouble free plants that always put on quite a show. Thanks for sharing and watching!
