I bought a boat from my best friend from high school's dad. He was the one who kinda got me into boating as a teen. So fast forward 40 years and he needs to sell due to his age and inability to keep the boat up. I told him I would help him get the boat running again so he could sell it. I already had a 23' sailboat but was thinking of doing the great loop when I retired soon. Wifey says "I'm not camping out on that little boat for a year!" LOL. So I get a call from my senior friend saying he would really like to sell me his 36' trawler because he knows I would use it. So he gave me a price I just couldn't ignore. Wow, what a long time it's taken me but we are just about ready to start cruising. Even though I wanted a bigger sailboat, for now I have a trawler. Oh yeah, I'm a fellow Texan and really enjoy your trawler vids. Thanks for sharing your stories.

Nice video! The best advice for any dreamer is to buy a boat that they can afford while still keeping their house and enjoy the water. If you want to make the full time leap, then at least you'll know what you are getting into. BTW if I ever decide to up capability from my Coastal Cruiser a Bayliner 4788 Jeff will be the one to call!

Great interview guys! Jeff is super nice guy, we have similar backgrounds - grew up racing sabots and sailing as a first love on the water. I don’t hold it against him that he went to the wrong college😂 Everything y’all discussed in that interview was spot on. Steve Dashew is my ultimate power boat interview (I still LOVE Jeff! Integrity plus!) If I had my druthers, an FPB 64’ is my dream - quickly followed by a Nordhavn 57’. In reality, I’m looking at a early 90’s Nord or a Kaddy in the 40’ to 48’ range (or a Diesel Duck, a Seahorse or a Nordic Tug) Insurance is my issue! Despite my diesel knowledge and proven marine knowledge, I can’t be insured to operate anything over 59’! 60’ is uninsurable for me! Peace
