I think those are jujubes actually! The dried version is called a Chinese Date, but I think they're a little different than a Medjool Date. Either way, super yummy!

Yeah I think those are jujubes. Having eaten them and seeing the unripe green color and brown color when it is ripe and the inside green flesh, I would say it is.

The fresh dates you're thinking of are more oval shaped and yellow! They're connected to each other on a small branch. They're really good! But they dry out your mouth. Try finding them if you can!

Yeah!! They're soo good. Sold in my city just during a few months per year but they're so addictive. Crunchy, sweet, only downfall is the dry mouth sensation hahaha but I think it's worth it :)

When i was in egypt, we were given these everyday for breakfast. I love fresh dates so much but i hate going through the dillema of eating a freshly picked date which has the awesome crunch to it, or the somewhat older date which is not that crunchy, nor bitter tho.

The yellow dates are unripe that go on to become the ripe brown dates that are usually sold in the markets. If you ever happen to visit a Gulf country, you will notice that date palms are planted everywhere, and so you might be able to see the dates hanging on stems that are of different colors, depending on how ripe they are.

Bro this reminded me of my childhood in Libya when we would eat the unripe dates (yellow in colour), these would suck the moisture from your mouth but tasted great. And also the ripened version that taste way better than what you get at the supermarkets here where it isn’t grown locally. Definitely try freshly picked dates if you ever go to a country where it is grown!

Cross posting for visibility, @GoldenGully Jujubes do not turn into the dried dates as we know. The dried version is called Unaab in Urdu. Fresh dates are available in Pakistan during the date harvesting season (which is now-a-days). They are called Doka/Dokay in Urdu. They taste close to an actual dried date, especially the ones which are in the middle stages of drying.

There are like hundreds of kinds of dates , come to ksa and try them , there are fresh dates labeled as "بَلَح' and they tend to come in this half brown half yellow color where the brown parts taste better than dried dates, they are way softer and more moist , qnd the yellow parts have this apple crisp and are a bit sweet . There also these kinds where they are half brown and half yellow and dried , in these the brown part tastes like a regular dried date but the yellow dried parts taste like a whole other candy
