Hello, lovely fellow wine-dabblers! Today we go back to France, but we will visit Beaujolais...
Today we will be trying Louis Jadot's 2018 Beaujolais-Villages!

-Gamay: a black grape that produces light-bodied reds with red fruit characteristics.

idk who is more vibrant, you or the Beaujolais! I'm very appreciative of your two cents, and your pronunciation is better than mine. But I'm a bilingual who doesn't speak a lick of French, so what do I know?

I've never had Gamay before, and I thought this was really interesting. The color looked fantastic, and I do think it would go well with Thanksgiving food! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday!

I always bring this Beaujolais to my Home when I'm purchasing wine. I get a nice plate and put different cheese, olives, fruits ( especially fresh figs when they're available ) plus maybe some fresh shrimp, walnuts, almonds or pecans. Kind of like an antipasto ! It is a Romantic start to an evening. Of course the Beaujolais nouveau in November. Something to look forward to in the Thanksgiving season.

I've tried that very wine, and did enjoy it. Will buy it again. I'd put gamay up there with pinor noir and cabernet savignon as my favorites of the reds.

I've actually had this exact wine a few times. It's nice, but a bit on the light side for me and I definitely wouldn't describe 13% as a high alcohol content for a red wine. It pairs very well with cheese and pasta dishes.

13% ABV is high for me! 😮. And when you have wines starting in the 5.5% ABV, I think it is fair to say that 13% is on the high side. I mean, technically you could find charts that reference 13.5% ABV as the beginning of the highest range, but I don’t think it’s too much to say that 13% ABV is in the high range. I could also see pasta dishes too, as long as the sauce isn’t too acidic and probably more on the sweet side. Or perhaps a pasta dish that is not red sauce dominate like a meaty lasagna. I think the fruity/savory aspect of “Thanksgiving” dishes is ideal for this wine for sure! I’m picturing a family sweet potato casserole recipe or family meat stuffing recipe! 😋 I wonder what kind of cheese to pair this with? I think it has to be “strong” enough to avoid being overpowered by the wine, but not too strong to overpower the wine. 🤔

That’s awesome! I love how subjective wine can be :) I suppose WSET should change their alcohol scale for reds and whites rather than lump them together... I shall have to try this one with cacio e pepe!

@@WineReform Ahhhh... I didn’t think about reds vs whites. It would seem logical to have a different scale referring to what is in the high ABV range.

@@dianasmith267 I agree with you about a different alcohol scale for red and whites. I prefer higher alcohol content wines because I find that they have a longer finish. However, a few years ago I tried a 15% Californian Zinfanel. This was like being hit in face with a brick! I felt fuzzy after just half a glass. Since then I've limited myself to 14% for reds and 13% for whites. Please let me know if you know of any long finish wines with lower alcohol levels.
