I found an old 1987 Mazda truck bed that had been converted into a pull behind trailer listed for sale on Facebook Marketplace. This will be the Perfect trailer build for Overland camping! Follow along weekly as i convert this old truck bed into an AMAZING Overland camping trailer. This thing is going to take truck bed camping to the next level, I'm gonna build this camping trailer to the MAX with everything from a rooftop tent to the kitchen sink! Literally....

My truck bed trailer is made of a 2000 tacoma truck bed. It has a 6" lift with 35" tires, air bags for leveling, 2 15 gal water tanks under the bed, RCI Bed Rack, OVS 270 Awning ECOXGEAR Sound Bar, 2 100Ah group 31 Batteries, stabalizer jacks, using existing drum brakes & modified brake handle to lock wheels from rolling and just installed the iKamper Skycamp 3.0

Install a water tank where the old gas tank was and use the fuel door to fill it up

How about putting canvas sides around the Yakima frame kinda like a soft side camper where the sides roll up. That way it helps protect the stuff in the bed.

So I built my trailer using a 1967 M 416 military trailer, I bail a lid that was raised 5 in above the bed providing better covered storage. I then took an old truck ladder rack cut it to make a tent rack, I wanted a 270 awning on it I wanted to have rack below roof for arrow dynamics. When I get to camp I can open 270 then flip a switch and my RTT and awning are hooked up to a hydraulic lift on each corner to raid it up to 6’ so I can walk under awning. Im working on putting a bed slide in bed and hook up my fridge and hopefully put solar power on for best off-road camping off grid. I also have my power station on front plus I carry my grill on front also. Still a work in progress

I built out a copy of your first camping utility trailer and have used it to explore SoCal for over two years now. Why are you making me build a second trailer…. 😂 Love how you explain your thoughts and when stuff doesn’t work out. Trial and error can be fun! Thank you for the videos.

Man that looks nice. 6’ bed? I love the idea of putting a water tank and underneath and using the tank door for filling. I have a RoadShower XL included in my build. Here are my top 5 musts, and top 5 want to see; 5 musts - 1. Color match paint to Tacoma. 2. Match wheels and tires to Tacoma. 3. Shore power and off grid power, look at an all in one inverter with battery you can charge via solar, generator, and grid power - $3kish. 4. Hygiene station. 5. Fridge. Top 5 wants - 1. Fishing gear storage. 2. Cooking station. 3. Entertainment setup, e.g. mini projector and screen. 4. Heating and cooling. 5. Tent insulation. Gonna be a cool build no matter what you decide to thrown on it. Look forward to watching the series.

Find a truck cap for it, mount the tent on top of that. That will give you the clearance for the fridge, keep dust/rain off the contents in the bed, plus lift that tent up like you want.

Agree with attaching a canvas/vinyl cover inside the rack and what about Molle plates attached on the outsides of the rack for more creative storage....

A retrax/syneticsUSA retractable tonneau would be a good addition. That way you can still attach the bed rack and then have a sliding cover to keep anything inside sealed and out of the elements.

That’s an awesome build!!! It’s definitely not the original axle and actually has a nice lift. If you’re interested and in eastern Ga. Let me know. I have a 87’ Mazda B2200 with 84,000 original miles. It’s in great shape and it’s my gem…not for sale just a rare lil pickup truck that I inherited from my Grandfather being the only owner. What if you put a scissor lift in the bed so then you tent is the tonneau cover on the road and when you get to camp you press a button and your tent rises to the hight you want.

Wrap it the same color as your truck. If you trade trucks you can rewrap it. Put truck matching rims on it.

Love the trailer idea. I have 2020 Tacoma built for overlanding. Love the idea of separate camp set up and still being able to drive truck independently. Excited to see final project.

i wonder if you could take the gas tank out and replace with a water tank for the shower then you can just fill it through the gas tank door lol never mind you just said that lol

Cool build. I regret selling my homemade trailer with a RTT on top. Had the inside rigged out nice and box in front that held a lot of firewood. Have fun!!

Add a boatjack with a wheei so u can push the trailèr when u r not hooked up to your truck .

If I had an awning like that I would want it to be able to fold all the way down like a tent. You could also put in some kind of fancy pull out mount racks on the side to mount your yaks too.

I'm building something similar. Got a fiberglass service body that I'm building a trailer to put it on. Stabilizers, an articulating hitch, ARC dolly, raise the rack so you can have a higher awning. Onboard water tank, with pumps and a shower. Pull out kitchen drawer, with fridge and stove, maybe collapsible sink.

Be sure to watch your tongue weight. Your tongue looks long enough that with a storage box up front you should be OK. Too often these truck box trailers don't have enough tongue weight and they get squirrely at speed.
