While I'm not (and never have been) a cop, I still relate to Rigg's story from the first movie through the 4th. I can't speak for the (supposedly) upcoming 5th entry, but I will reserve judgment until I see it. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy 2-4. Many people did, though. Nobody seems to realize after the jumper Murtaugh's hand is pinched by the guns hammer because Riggs fired the gun. The webbing by Murtaugh's thumb stopped the hammer and firing pin from striking the cartridge primer when he grabbed at the gun causing a misfire and saving Riggs life.

I say this every time someone reacts to this movie: I can deeply relate to Riggs in this movie. Throughout the franchise, really.... but we'll get to that later on. I was widowed in 2006, when my first wife died from cancer. It was the most traumatic event of my life. I know exactly how Riggs feels, even though our wives died differently (you'll find out later, I won't spoil it). I was a "lost soul" for several years after Rose died. I was also at the point where I got reckless as Hell, because I didn't care if I lived or died. It took me years to learn how to cope with a loss of that magnitude. I finally did, very, very slowly, and before Rose had died, she told me that when the time was right, she would send someone to me, so that I wouldn't be lonely for the rest of my life. I truly believe in an afterlife of some kind, because a few years later, a woman that I'd known back in school walked back into my life, and we "clicked" instantly. I had a dream where Rose came to me, and let me know that she had indeed sent Katina for me. Katina and I have been married for over 11 years now, and she puts up with all of my quirks and idiocyncrasies. It's actually me relating to Riggs so completely, that actually makes this movie both hard to watch, and a bit cathartic.

Same setup for me, not as happy ending. Met the love of my life in Germany. Lived 6 years together and had a blast. Returned to the States to finish out my enlistment. She collapsed on the train to work and had a seizure. She didn't survive. Undiagnosed brain tumor with no prior symptoms. After that, I went "contractor" in the Middle East and took the riskiest assignments. I've been shot at so many times I can't count them, blown up twice, survived a helo crash, and that's just the stuff I can mention. I now live alone in a 33' RV and work in a mill making hardwood flooring. I'm happy you have Katina. Not all of us are so lucky. I'll be 50 soon, and I don't see any "Happily Ever After" in my timeline. It's always good to see the ones that make it. It really is. This will just be another Christmas season where I'm all alone. Situation normal these days.

Yeah, I can relate. Mine left just about 6 years ago now, from a range of illnesses sort of converging. Whole thing sucks, and it's weird how quickly the world changes after someone leaves. Danny Glover’s character said that he was in the Ia Drang valley. That would been the Battle of Ia Drang in November, 1965. There was a book about that called We Were Soldiers Once… And Young, written by Hal Moore and Joseph Galloway, the American commander at that battle. In 2002, a movie called We Were Soldiers was released based the book. In that movie, Hal Moore was played by… Mel Gibson. If you haven’t seen it yet, you ought. I scrolled a bit, and after seeing no one answered your question. People transport boats across land in a trailer, which has supports for the boat on the bottom. To get the boat in the water, they back the trailer down a boat ramp(which is a gradual decline into water), which the water will eventually cause the boat to float off of the trailer.
@lurkerrekrul
@lurkerrekrul Жыл бұрын
15:38 - "How do you get it in the water?" - The boat is on a trailer. You tow it to a boat ramp, which is a place where the road goes right down to the water, back the trailer into the water until the boat floats, push it off the trailer, then drive the trailer out of the water. One person then takes the trailer away while another person drives the boat to a marina or wherever it's going to be anchored. When it's time to take the boat out of the water, you reverse the process. At least that's what my grandfather used to do with his speedboat, although with a boat the size of the one in this movie, he might need professional help to get it in the water.

It's so nice to see someone not even born back in the eighties loving this movie! There's a bunch of old eighties comedy/action movies you might like! I'm sure everyone told you about Die Hard, Terminator, and so on. But how about Foul Play with Goldie Hawn? Well that might be a seventies movie, but still. And Sugarland Express? And Midnight Run with Robert DeNiro? And of course, Silver Streak with Gene Wilder! Oh that's the seventies again. He is very good in Young Frankenstein as well. Oh, and don't forget to check out Body Double, by director Brian De Palma! That one is seriously good! And also Into The Night, with Michelle Pfeiffer and Jeff Goldblum, that one is a classic! Edit: Tequila Sunrise has both Mel Gibson and Michelle Pfeiffer, and it's brilliant! How could I forget that one? And Michelle is great in The Fabulous Baker Boys, but that is a different kind of movie. Still a classic, need to watch!

When I was young 30+ year old movies were noticeably old in every way. That didn't make them easy to watch. Movies like this are perma fresh. There may be superficial things like hairstyles, car models, technology that stands out but the overall quality is far superior and the film looks like it could've been released yesterday.

15:45 the boat it typically resting on a trailer…lots of coastal areas have boat ramps… You hook the trailer to the vehicle, tow the boat on the trailer to the ramp, reverse into the water til the boat is in the water, disconnect the trailer, drive out and park, then climb into your boat and off you go…
@valashar5313
@valashar5313 Жыл бұрын
A boat like Roger's is held onto the trailer it's on by a winch and hook at the front. To get it to the water you tow the trailer to a boat ramp, which is just a (usually) paved ramp of road that gradually goes down into the water. The vehicle towing the boat drives backwards, slowly lowering the trailer back so the boat is into the water (but not so far that the towing vehicle is). Then the winch is unwound so the boat leaves its trailer and floats on the water by itself. Someone then gets in the boat to take care of it while another drives the vehicle and now empty trailer away.

"Is that how it works?" Yes, it's exactly how it works (AFAIK for most grenades, notable exception being WWII German potato-mashers and the *really* old stuff). The triggering handle is spring-loaded. As long as you don't let it spring up far enough to light the fuse, it's basically safe. The pin is there just to keep the handle/trigger locked in safe position. You grab the grenade so that you're pressing the handle down. That way only as it leaves your hand as you throw it, it starts the fuse. Of course, in movies, etc., they let it "cook" before throwing, but AFAIK it doesn't make much difference in practice except that the thrower is taking an unnecessary risk there. The fuses are made for specific burning time until the detonation, but just like with fireworks they might burn faster than intended (though they're obviously more reliable). In that case you want them flying in the air and not sitting in your hand.

There is a bridge that connects Pedro to Long Beach called the Vincent Thomas bridge. Google it. Its been used in A LOT of films and shows. One day in 2012, Tony Scott, director of many hit movies made the news for the last time. Sadly, he jumped from the bridge taking his own life. RIP Tony Scott.

This is one of my favorite movie franchises. The first one is the 'darkest' but the rest are lighter and action packed. By the time you get to the last one, you will see the bond that this cast and crew developed with a pay off in the end credits. Plus, Rene Russo is a bad ass female role model that gives Mel a run for his money. Jackie Swansen (Amanda Hunsaker) who kills herself in the beginning, actually performed the stunt herself. Looking down, the street and the tops of the cars were actually a life sized painting on an air bag that she fell into. And, I am pretty sure that the often copied line 'I'm too old for this shit.' originated with the Lethal Weapon movies. Mr. Joshua was played by Gary Busey, who was also in POINT BREAK (1991) with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze. It is one of the best action films ever made with some seriously intense scenes beautifully filmed, and done with real stunt men and no CGI. I highly recommend it. Mel wrote, directed, and produced a movie in 2006, called APOCALYPTO, about the fall of the Mayan empire. It was filmed in Mexico with a cast of mostly locals with Mayan ancestry. Some of the actors in the movie had never even seen a movie before let alone speak English. It is action packed, visually stunning, with great characters and was nominated for and won many awards. Watch it through and then watch it again with Mel's commentary about filming it. It's very interesting.

Yes, it's possible to put the pin back into a grenade as long as you are holding the spoon down. Once you take your thumb off the spoon Flys off giving you 3 seconds to throw it before it explodes. Unlike Die Hard 2 where all those grenades get lobbed into the cockpit where McClane is, giving him all the time in the world to get into the seat and eject before they explode.

This is 1 of 4 films of these characters, and all are worth watching. Plus, the second one is funnier than the first, in my opinion.

*Yea, I've always wondered why this movie never had the "Action Movie vs Christmas Movie" debate like Die Hard has.* *Oh yea! and don't forget, when you get to "Lethal Weapon 3". there's a post credits scene.*

Lethal Weapon could have happened at any time, with no changes. In Die Hard, the only reason Bruce Willis is in LA is because of his wife's company christmas party. The plot is dependent on it being Christmas.

@@SlashmanSG That may be the single dumbest defense of the Xmas movie argument. But hey, accept all superlatives.

@@Hexon66 their’s was a terrible argument, McClane could’ve been in LA for any number of reasons (one of his children’s birthday, for example)… but the biggest reason why it HAS to be Christmas for the plot of Die Hard to work: Nakatomi Tower has $600m in its vault and any other night of the year would be well guarded… Takagi has given all but 2 guards the night off, making it easy pickings for Hans’s team to take over the tower unopposed (not accounting for McClane of course). Lethal Weapon could indeed happen at any time of year: it’s Murtaugh’s birthday, so the “present” at the end could be a birthday present. It could be Thanksgiving and that’s why they’re having “the worlds lousiest turkey”. The point is, it being Christmas or not doesn’t have any bearing on the plot, whereas it being Christmas is the key element to Die Hard’s plot. But the argument can go on for eternity, nothing changes the fact both are great movies, Christmas or not.

Just wanted to say that I think your channel is cool - very genuine and heartfelt reactions. Please don't take this the wrong way - it was just a dream. Anyhow, I had a dream, while I was sleeping, that you were driving a four-wheeled off-road vehicle (a "quad") and that we were talking. Anyhow, hope you are having a good holiday 🎅🎄

i really like the "lethal weapon"-franchise and i think i need to rewatch them. in the 90s i loved those movies being a wee lad with an affinity for action movies. they are actually like different seasons of a show. the first one is kinda dark and sets up alot of details, the second one is less dark, but somewhat harsher, the third one is kinda polished and the fourth one a bit silly (but all four are great). riggs' development has the most variation, but pretty much all characters (including the ones introduced later) have nice character arcs and the antagonists also have a nice variety.

The kid pointing out the tattoo always stands out to me. "Exactly like that?" "Mmhmm it had a knife even" That's all Riggs needs to hear. It could've been anything generally similar according to a 6 yr olds interpretation of 'exactly'. It works though, keeps the movie moving.

Cool reaction,as usual! All the LW movies are entertaining, the first is the best (IMO), like maybe a '9', the next two are about '8'. The 4th one is maybe a '7', just because they were trying a little too hard to come up with something a little different. The two leads are still excellent, and the various others are definitely good (no 'C-list' actors!), it's just that the story ... well, decide for yourself, but I'm pretty sure you'll like it. Looking forward to watching your reactions! P.S. - BTW, I *definitely* liked your _"A Christmas Carol"_ reaction!

23:55 I had to laugh when you wondered rug the bad guys had a tracker on our boys when Riggs got shot. We were in our technological infancy at the time. Although pagers were developed in the 50’s or 60’s they didn’t come into everyday use until the 80’s. Answering machines that used cassette tapes had just come into common household use and everyone had Pac-Man fever. Lol Since they’re working with CIA it’d be easy enough to get their location from the station.
