As some of you may know, Its a bit of a hobby of mine to also repair and restore some of the air brushes that I use in the Let's paint videos. I actually filmed this restoration video a couple of months ago but only recently found the time to edit the footage! Grab your favorite drink and snack and hang out as we fix a Vintage Paasche Model H Airbrush!

I wouldn't have gone through the trouble of restoring it. So I'm impressed.

Why not? It's great to bring an old war horse air brush back to life. May have ended up costing more then just buying a new one in parts but it's not the same. Maybe I just love restoring things no matter the cost..

After many years of model car painting my Paasche H started to show a erratic spray pattern. Your video showed me the way to fix it. Thanks!

Late to the party but i just bought a new one for a project but in the meantime i watched this. It was like watching an old car restoration. Smooth, nice music, no fluff, well narrated. In other words a perfect video!

I have an older H model (44 years old), it still works like a champ! O rings is all I needed. I got #3 & #5 needle/air cap sets, also upgraded to S type needles. They take screw on jars. I changed the plastic handle for the chromed brass handle (no longer available). There is a closed red aluminium handle. I originally filled the plastic handle with some #9 bird shot to add some weight as I like a weighty airbrush in my big hands. Very easy to clean. I recommend you stock up on O rings if you use this gun a lot & stock up on needle set screws, you will lose them to the carpet monster! I have 5 airbrushes total & this is still my go to gun. Update: Passche website lists an Anodized red & blue handle (no cutout) & had a black body H model.

The Model H is a beast of an airbrush! Definitely the AK-47 of airbrushes. Filling the handle with bird shot is genius! Believe me, I dropped that lock screw and spent the better part of an afternoon on the ground looking for it. lol Thank you for the insightful tips!

Well done! I have/had several airbrushes over the years Grex, Iwata, Badger, but my workhorse has been my Hs. Plural. I had four at one time, but only now have my original I bought 40 years ago. Back in the late 80s and into the 90s, I built mostly 43rd scale cars for collectors, typically sold through the kit dealers ( a building service). Would build between 30 and 50 a month. Also built the occasional larger scale plastics, and a very lucrative product line customizing 1/18 die-casts (mostly Miatas and PT Cruisers, but also Porsches and Corvettes). I mostly used auto lacquers, Mr Color, and decanted Krylon. To that end, I had the Hs set up for different media and colors: One for clear coats , one for light colors, one for darks and primers, and one for metallics (built a walk-in paint booth which included filtered air and supplied air for a head hood). I replaced the air nozzle o-rings with ones made from Viton as I would swirl the entire front of the airbrush in lacquer reducer for between-color cleaning. All had the chromed metal handles as I like the balance and they look good (looks like those may be OOP). I had not seen that anodized handle before and will be ordering one =) A tip for those cups: epoxy them to a 1" diameter stainless steel washer and they wont tip over as easily (I also have several of these suitably marked for clear, light, dark, and metallics).

Mine is a older Passche H airbrush. It has the same labeling on the top of the airbrush that the one you have has. I bought it at a going out of business sale from a local hobby shop 25-30 years ago. Its still going strong.

That is interesting. I have noticed the packing washer gets is hard to clear of all colour without removing for separate cleaning, which I do now every time. Does it need removing every time, even when the spay is clear and there is no apparent colour. What do you think? The problem of course is that having spent all that time, you may as well have used an internal mix brush. Incidentally: it is worth it finding a photographic processor/shop who can supply fresh from the bin 35mm film canisters. Use a scriber to poke through the lid a plastic tube so that it friction fits, and then poke a small hole for pressure equalisation. After work cleanup is simple. Wipe the canister with a solvent (usually turps or metho) piece of kitchen paper or the like, then flow through the tube from the top. Fill the now clean canister with thinner and put through brush until clean. Then take down of brush is simple. We are talking about - say - fifteen minutes, and not much thinner/turps/metho. I say again and again: 'Laziness is its own reward; the gift that keeps on giving.' OBSERVE SAFETY INDICATIONS. I try and avoid paints I cannot clean with turps or metho. If you can smell it, you're getting too much. Thanks.

Tip. Screw on the trigger button BEFORE installing the spring and nut. Otherwise, great video and great job of showing how to work on an H. BTW one advantage the H has over internal mix is cleaning it after using lacquers or enamels. I have a VL and Vision, but for hard to clean paints, I'll stick with my H.

Thank you for this extremely informative video on the breakdown, maintenance and repair. There is a reason why quality costs a bit, but people do not realize the Paasche H is a huge value. I know the Chinese have cheap airbrushes that go for 20 a pop, but many are terrible from the get go, and almost all of them are not serviceable. Again thank you for the breakdown I need to service mine.

I'm just getting back into building models after being away many years. I hit the subscribe button on your channel, lots of fun to watch, very informative. My question is about airbrushing. When you airbrush, do you use a ventilated spray booth? Or is the amount of paint coming out so small that a booth is not needed? I will be assembling and painting miniatures, mostly.

@@PanzerChicken69 What the heck is a "Panzer Chicken"? And thank you for reminding me to take my pain pills this morning. You see more than three years ago I was riding my 1964 H-D and a guy hit me on it when he went through a stop sign. I got four breaks in the bones of my left leg, a dislocated shoulder and a concussion out of it. Don't worry, I was wearing a helmet. You have got to be an a--hole not to. But even an idiot like you realizes, and it goes without saying, the my pain is still virtually constant. But you, a pathetic excuse of a human being, can do some good in the world, albeit miniscule, after all. Thank you again for reminding me. So go on to your empty, pointless existence as an internet troll financed by the Red China military/political machine. Well, maybe not, you seem so stupid that you would be a National Peoples Congress operative and do it all for free. By the way, do you know anything about the reported Red Chinese spy balloon making it's way across the U.S. today? Or maybe I should ask your comrades. Hah, hah, hah...
