Now one might say this is evil... But imagine you're Bell. For your entire life, you valiantly served in the Soviet Union as a high ranking soldier, even being in close contact with Perseus. Then, you get betrayed by an "ally" who wants to get you out of the picture for personal reasons, and to top it off, you're being captured and brainwashed by the literal enemy, tricking you into thinking you're on their side. But apart from the fact that your memory seems askew, no-one really trusts you. Adler is the only one who does, who seems like a guiding figure, but the more frustrated he gets in his pursuit of Perseus, his real disposition towards you starts to show. You're an asset. You're not a friend, or an ally. You've been thrown in there to do your job, and that's it. And then you regain your consciousness: in a moment's notice, you recollect everything mentioned above, and you lie there, in front of Adler, looking him straight in the eye. The one who keeps you from returning to your former life, who even got you into this mess, and who would most likely kill you once your job's done. And you now have the choice. Do you stay in your place? Do you do what you are told to do? Do you continue your alliance with the one's who "saved" you? Or do you return to your true self?

I personally decided to stick with the West, I thought if the world got nuked and innocents died, it'd be terrible. I thought maybe just maybe they will trust me after what I've did for them, and maybe they did. I became a defector to the West.. But after it was all said and done, Adler had to kill Bell... I understand why, tying loose ends and all but it just hurts, I just really hope Adler meant it when he said "Nothing personal." Really good campaign, shit multiplayer + zombies though lol. Ngl, I don’t see this as an evil ending at all. I see this as a “revenge” ending. They brainwashed the man, made him fight and kill his own people, use him as a pawn, puts him through a torture session of trying to break his mind for information, and then after ALL THAT, they are SURPRISED he “betrayed” them? Edit: yes, this is most definitely an “Evil End” however, the fact you get revenge on the people that used you as a tool, that never really even cared what happened to you, that will kill you when you are of no more use, that (figuratively((?))) cut your brain open and shoved their toys into your head to get you to March to their tune, that you get revenge on those people, and that you use their own weapons to do it? Well, that’s a level of irony and cruel justice that can’t really be properly expressed tbh
@Blahblahblaafmn2 жыл бұрын
Something can't be both evil and revenge? Is getting revenge at the cost of millions of lives not "evil"? Imo the whole point of decisions like these are to see whether the player would act with dignity and say "My character is strong enough to endure what they have and still have the strength left to sacrifice themselves for others" or "Fuck everyone else and their suffering because MY suffering is greater". Point is games love to push stupid "all or nothing" decisions, and in reality I'm sure that after all of the brainwashing and shit that Adler and the others wouldn't have just blindly trusted Bell without any backup plan whatsoever (let alone Bell radioing an ambush while standing 10 feet away from 6 other people, all of whom conveniently forgot that Bell is hardly in his right mind).

The game may be terrible in its regard, but this part was very well done. Depending on which answer you give, Adler will react differently. As you can see, whem Bell says the base is in Duga, Adler hesitates for a moment and realizes something feels off. He never considered Duga an option and he seems to try to connect the dots on how could he could have missed it. When Bell says it's in Solovetsky, it's more like it was somewhere he thought it could be the real place and reacts like: "of course! It's Solovetsky!", like this place made sense to him because his intel probably considered it a potential hotspot. Some nice details.

The best thing about a blind playthrough of this game is the revelation. Your first playthrough you’ll do everything to bring down Perseus, decipher all the codes, kill all the members. Then you learn that you have actually been destroying your own organization as a member of Perseus. Then you do a second playthrough, cautiously choosing every option to be in the favor of Perseus, it just makes the Soviet ending more satisfying in my opinion. I feel like the US ending was deliberately made more cliche to bring up the Soviet ending, obviously Adler killing you still has weight to it, but the US mission is so bland in comparison to the Soviet ending, it’s a generic CoD final mission, with two or three objectives, destroy the thing, Bell do this, Bell do that, good work Bell we destroyed the evil Russians, another win for the USA as Adler puts his sunglasses on with explosions in the background. The Soviet ending is short and sweet, it’s more cinematic than gameplay focused, it’s a cathartic experience, even more so when you already knew the truth, taking out the remaining team members that manipulated you as their plot armor is finally stripped away, watching Adler bleed out and being congratulated by Perseus at the end for your efforts, planning the next stages of the plan for worldwide Soviet domination, it just feels good, I’d kill for an extension to the Soviet ending.

One thing to note, while I love Mason as a character, I find it crazy how onboard he was with brainwashing a soldier GIVEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO HIM! Like, he LITERALLY knows how evil and terrible it is but goes along with the lie anyway. They are not heroes, they are soldiers willing to do evil for their country. This ending is a lot like the OG black ops, but from the Soviet perspective.

While both endings are kinda shitty (either you save the world but die at the hands of your own handler, or you resist the manipulation and make your own choices, but bring down nuclear hellfire), the way they are implemented is done really well. Both twists are believable and logical. I really like this new type of CoD game that's basically a Tom Clancy novel made into a game.

I loved this games endings because it really felt like two conflicting endings You could betray adler and detonate the nukes. This ending was awesome for your character, you get revenge on all the people who backstabbed you, and get to work along side someone who respects you. But the world burns Or you can side with adler. You don’t get any respect, and your story ends with you possibly shot, but you’ve saved most of the world. It’s a difficult choice, mostly based on how Adler makes you feel like shit for saving the world
