The best comparison I can think of in American sports of a player changing the style of the game I'd make is Shaq in the NBA. Every team needed multiple back up centers because the only way to really stop him from scoring was to foul and force him to shoot free throws. Guys had entire careers built around defending Shaq for a quarter or two before fouling out. Another obvious one is Steph Curry, yeah we had great shooters before him but Steph revolutionized the three pointer and changed the game forever.
