This is a very bare bones survival kit I made using the Wise Men Company "Pill Bug Tool Roll". Let me know what item you would take out and then add in its place.
Pill Bug Tool Rool - Store your small EDC tools in this compact tool roll! The Pill Bug has 9 pockets to accommodate all your needs. Once you have it loaded up simply fold in half, roll it up, and stow it away in your pack. Built tough with 500D Cordura, the Pill Bug will last a lifetime. Available in Multi-Cam Black, Woodland, Ranger Green, and Wolf Gray

This is actually a pretty good set of tools. If anything, I'd swap the pocket prybar or whistle for a full size multitool, something with a saw and pliers.

Nice compact kit two things I may change first the knife for a SAK like the camper for example and second the cord I'll use bank line instead you'll get more quantity cord and for the fire cord you can wrap wax youth cord on the Bic lighter.

Swap out the RAT folding knife for one of the larger sized Victorinox folding knives with a Saw. The Trecker would be a good one. If it's too big go with the standard sized Hiker. Those saws add a lot of utility into a kit if you don't have room for a larger folding saw.
@kamojet

That's a good call. Especially if the folder is just your backup. The Swiss Army Knives give you so much more flexibility. I think many people write off SAK type knives because the size of the tools seem small. But if you watch some vids by Felix Immler or TA Outdoors you will be blown away by how much you can do with just one knife. I have a version of the SAK Evo grip that I bought because I saw TA Outdoors set up his whole camp with just that one knife. The key to reducing the weight of gear is knowledge and skills. Mind you I'm one of those people who has the gear but doesn't have all the knowledge.

You want us to critique and rate, right? Ok,... What is the most likely survival situation in my world? Well: either I slip hiking and twist my ankle in the evening hours or the weather changes dramatically in the middle of a long hike with me not being perfectly clothed/ equiped. Therefore I will rate what I see based on those scenarios. So: you twisted your ankle at 6pm in the fall. You can barely move within a radius of 30 feet. A. It is the definition of things that you don't need a booboo kit in a lifethreatening situation. Throw it away and put a mylar blanket in it. That way you can cover up at night and be protected from the rain at least. You will literally freeze to death with band aids and aspirin in your pockets otherwise. B. Assuming there is still room left where the booboo-kit was: put a thin and clear poncho behind the mylar blanket. Therefore if you get caught in bad weather with a lot of daylight left you can escape by hiking on. (If carrying "some medical" is a definite must for you: if I only was allowed 1 medical gadget/ tool it would be undeniably be an israeli bandage.) C. The chemlights are useless. Add ziploc bags and take out the chemlight. This gives you a container to put your purification tabs in if you were to be close to a river/ rain came along or dying of thirst. Otherwise the tablets are useless. D. The whistle is inefficient in space. Take it out and replace it with a simple container carrying more matches and candles and a smaller whistle. The candles will give you an amazing source of warmth when you wrap up in the survival blanket and light the candle in it. E. Allthough I do respect the Ontario RAT 1 it is still of limited use when you can not move. Take it out and put a SAK in it. For example a swiss champ would be amazing. Folding knives are inefficient considering the space they use and the tools they provide. With the swiss champ you get two knives, scissors, woodsaw, pliers, tweazers, magnifying lense (which also might start a fire),... F. The prybar is useless in nature. Take it out and put a signal mirror in it's place. That way you can signal over long distances. G. Take out the lighter and put in a red bandana. That way you can tie the bandana to a stick and use it as a signal flag. Other uses: provides shade, protects your airway, can be used as insulation on the head, can be used to make slings, filter water, gather water,... The lighter will propably fail in a true survival situation anyway. It's just the way it always is :D H. Safety pins will not in a million years be ever as useful as small zipties. Zipties (several of them combined) can hold up a log to be used as a crossbeam which in combination with the space blanket to creat decent shelter. (I will never get the thing with the safety pins :D) I. That's a bonus because if you fold up the toolroll you still can bungee sth. behind the shock cord which is currently not used. Therefore put a balaclava or a thin beanie between the shock cord and the tool roll. That will give you additional insulation. So,.... judging your survival kit? Well,.... if you get in trouble with a survival kit in your pocket you already won because 1 survival kit is more than 0 survival kit. And it shows that you are aware of things. Nevertheless being honest I have to rate thise 2.5 out of 10. The main problem ist that I don't know your usual surrounding and movement pattern. If you spend 7 minutes in the woods over the last 22 years than my thoughts propably do not apply. Put a multi tool, prybar and a silcock tool in it. If you spend a lot of time in nature my recommendations will make your survival a lot easier. In my opinion man always needs 2 survival kits. One urban one outdoors. And depending on where you are going you have take one of them. The problem with your survival kit is that it seems like you set it up without a clear scenario in mind. Ask yourself the following questions: 1. What is the most likely bad situation in which I might find myself in? 2. Will it be indoors or outdoors? 3. Many people around or no people around? 4. Am I assuming that i can move or will I be stationary? 5. Do I have special needs? Diabetes/ Insulin,... You have to answer those type of questions honestly and then you will come up with a solid survival kit. i'm sure about that. So keep on rocking on brother and keep thinking about those things. Your preparedness might save your behind one day. Or the behind of a loved one. Which might be just the next thing to consider,...

I personally would swap the knife for a leatherman rebar and for survival in a non combat environment I would swap the red light for a white light but do get your reasoning. I don’t really see a purpose for the pry bar but couldn’t think of anything to replace it. It’s nice to see someone with a bic lighter and not a ferro rod. Overall I think it’s setup quite nice.

It’s a good kit, I agree with one of the other commenters though; I’d swap one of the chem-lites out, but I’d replace it with a sturdy baggie of some sort. If you’re just taking this kit, there’s no sense in having all of those purification tablets if there’s nothing to hold water in, and you need at the least 0.75 liters of water for one purification tablet. We can go several days without food, but not without water. I know you enjoy your red light, but if you’re in a situation where search an rescue needs to find you, you might see about a light that has both red and white options that will also signal for emergencies. They make them the same size as the one you have. Just the things I’d subtract to add.

I'd swap the Bic for a Clipper lighter and the whistle/matchsafe doodah for a proper matchsafe and a proper smaller compass and whistle. When I was "directionally challenged" on bog and moorland and in some actual danger I was trying out a cheaper compass for fun. My brain was not happy at the time that I was using said compass as it left an element of doubt as to it's performance. I had my good old Suunto in my backpack, used this and my brain calmed down. Sometimes the irrational can get the better of you in tight spots. Something to consider. The rest is hard to fathom, I keep my mulitool/SAK on my person in the wilderness so it's not part of the emergency kit though I'd consider some sort of multi bladed or tooled knife over a single bladed one.

If you are already carrying a pocket knife i would swap the knife for a multitool if you are in urban. leatherman surge with spare saw blades for different materials and bit kit, or a swiss army knife if in the woods - blade, saw, scissors, awl, corkscrew for knot untying and holding the eyeglass screwdriver, the bottle opener will do most of what your pry does -- outrider, ranger 79, evolution s17, etc. since i also replaced your pry i would add in some kind of repair materials. For one stop you can buy the exotac ripspool maybe add a couple safety pins and wrap in ranger bands. Or build it yourself - heavy sail needle, can use the swiss army knife as the pusher or a thimble, a curved needle and standard needle, some safety pins, a small tube of cyanoacrylate super glue, a small glue stick, ranger bands, strong thread, spare buttons and buckles that match your clothes or pack, and some seam seal type tape for nylon/goretex/air mattress

Good kit over all. It is hard to judge, being I am not sure if you intend to use it as get home , or bug out, or just an everything . but. I would take a leatherman wave in place of the pocket knife being you have one on u already. replace the GI cup for a stanly cook set. replace the water tabs with small straw filter. id swap the para cord with a bank line so u can get alot more cordage in the small storage space you have. With that said, if your kit works for you and your skill set then that is the right kit for you. As you said there is no perfect kit. Kits have to be made by the person that is going to use it, based on location, weather and that persons skills.

I would get rid of the miniature tool roll---no offense! 😢 I live in a small coastal city in the Caribbean. It has two US Post Offices with different zip codes and sidewalks 95% of the urban zone. That tool rool would be inappropriate for me. As an example, I carry an Orca Tactical pouch and in one of the loops there is a Burt's Bees lip balm. The salty air requires *direct* access to the balm. Good videos.💪

I'm going to break the rules, but for your own benefit lol. You should add a couple lockpicking tools. If you get some thin/low-profile ones from Bogota, you can easily fit them in any of several of those pockets. They won't take up hardly any space, and they'll add virtually no weight.

I may swap out one of the chemlights for a fishing lure and/or hook and fishing line, and then break the rules by sneaking in a medical tape card and pack of Emergen-C or coffee. Medical tape has a grippy fabric exterior, so you may find it better for some uses compared to duct tape. You may as well bring both since they're so thin.

Add $100 bill with the card. Not going to say remove anything since it’s basically adding nothing. You can find cheap rechargeable electric lighters with build in flash lights. I’d swap your flashlight out for that to also free up your bic space. Replace the bic lighter with a small lockpick set.

To me, fire is so important for a multitude of things and it's presence becomes ever more necessary, as sods law would have it, when making it is very difficult in gale force winds or heavy rain..... So to me, you could easily ditch the chem lights for some fast tinder, something that is a sure thing. Chem lights to me are mostly a gimmick and their space could easily be trades for some fatwood. Again, for signalling, a fire could prove most useful. Other than that it's a great kit 💪

Replace your zip ties with 30 to 50 or 75 feet of 300 test pound Kevlar rope, same volume. The 300 test pound is more than ample for most applications to replace your 550 cord and get a cylinder of paraffin waxed/jute tinder to replace the volume of the 550 cord. The tinder will likely outlast your usage and is less volume than the 550 cord. You don't need a Sharpie if you carry your phone for notes and no need for a pad which you don't have or display. No Survival Mirror, no way to sharpen your knife/hooks - you have no fishing kit, so replace your excessively sized whistle/compass/tinder/matches and make a fishing kit. Integrate as I have, a 2 inch X 3 inch survival mirror/retractable whistle/container with purification tablets with lid mounted compass/side mounted ferro cerium rod/side mounted diamond knife/hook sharpener/container for tinder to eliminate the tinder method previously described/retractable 650 lumen flashlight with lanyard. Lanyard for the survival device - hang it around your neck and you now have space for other gear in your kit for a foldable hydration bottle/bladder. You could replace your knife with a Boker ultra thin folding knife and add a Victorinox 2 inch X 3 inch survival card - design to your satisfaction and a fresnel lens for fire starting - optional. The knife, survival card and fresnel lens together are substantially flat vs the thickness of your knife. I place these three items under my survival device with rubber bands. Don't forget bug spray & head net for bug season, but no place to put it and that's why you need a place with greater volume to store other critical gear such as a Leatherman or equal and other tools, an oversized poncho for rain and a shelter, energy bars, food, stimulant, a waterproof breathable Anorak, waterproof breathable pants, spare socks, spare shirt, ground sheet, tarp for shelter and I'm out of suggesting the numerous other items necessary for survival. So, what do you believe defines a usable survival kit? It's not entirely what you have.
