Next to taking down trees and clearing, I would have to say that my next favorite thing to do is burn. I spent two days tending a burn pile (not quite as big as yours). In between feeding the fire I can sit in my machine (just a skid steer) and watch the pile burn while I reflect on losing my oldest son (probably about your age). I find it amusing when I talk to my co-workers at my "regular job" which is mostly in front of a computer keyboard about taking trees down and burning. They tell me that "it sounds like a lot of work"! I tell them yes it is, but it's my "therapy". I could spend each and every day on a machine doing "work" on my property in the woods and be content.

Watching Chris work his excavator always reminds me of seeing Fred Flintstone on his dinosaur at the rock quarry sitting atop the dinosaur in his cab with his rope control where the the Volvo excavator has the same look with the boom and bucket/thumb being the dinosaurs neck and jaws. Yay! A burn video! My 2nd favourite type of video from Chris after the sloppy mud dredging ones 😁😁😁

Mulching that would not be a good idea. The rental place doesn't like rocks being sent through a chipper. Also fine branches don't chip. I used a chipper to chip willow branches and clogged the chipper, two hours later after disassembling and assembling the chipper after unclogging the chipper box learned my lesson. KZfaq has a lot of watchers but when you become a doer you know the answers. Because you made the mistakes. Trust me this man knows what he is doing.

Ive started using a fan I made to speed it up. It’ll flat incinerate a green ringing wet pile in no time. Make an air tunnel under ya pile and let it blow up in the pile. It’s an old grain bin fan so it moves lots of air.

Got to love the yanks. In UK I would be turning most of that into firewood and kindling.

50 gal of diesel followed by 20 gal of gas will get that pile visible from the space shuttle without you having to move it :-)....less than you will burn in the Volvo and no worries of cracking the windshield as a bonus ;-)

You should use milk jugs to start your fires. Half used oil half fuel. Set 2 half gallon jugs 3 feet apart. Set them on top of the pile 3 feet apart. It never fails. Green wood rain it don't matter. Just A little safer way to get it going.

Yeah. Unlike a chipper. A fire 🔥 never gets stuck in the mud, runs out of fuel ⛽️ bogs out or breaks down. And you don’t have to tow it everywhere and pay for tags etc. :)

Chris, do yourself a favor. Don't risk another windshield. McMaster Carr high heat warning sticker. Little inconspicuous black dot.They watch the windshield for you. No need to reach out and constantly check for heat with your hand. 2 bucks apiece. Sell in a pack of 10. 1.5 inch black sticker. Put on the inside window of all your machines. Temp goes to 122 degrees, the sticker changes from black to a red warning message. When it cools, back to black.

If Viewers want to take the Debris to the Mill, then let them Buy Equipment and Start Excavating.🤪

For this kind of thing, have you ever considered getting a grapple instead of a digging bucket? Something that's more tines, to let you sort out the dirt and crud a bit more easily when you're working with the thumb? You do a lot of burning and stacking like this.

You should do a contest with your subscribers and see who can design the most efficient burn pit.
