In today's video, I am going to show you how to turn a sketch into a fully finished design, complete with highlights and shadows...all without using outlines! This technique will also teach you how to use alpha lock along with the lasso selection tool...allowing you to create a really detailed look while only using a few layers! You can also use this method for your traditional sketches- just take a pic, import into Procreate, and start coloring! I know that this is a fairly long video, but this allows you to follow along with the full process in almost real-time (I time-lapsed one portion where I was repeating the same steps over and over again on the crab's legs just to speed things up a little!) I appreciate a mix of short skills and longer full projects putting the different skills and techniques together to get more acquainted with where the selections are and the order or work flow. Very beginner here, unemployed disabled (no cash for lessons). A mix let’s me learn the max depending on how much time or pain I have each day. Both are important. I also appreciate the basic art tips and concepts you drop here and there. Not teaching strictly just program tools and assuming everyone is already a pro or accomplished artist. Thanks for keeping it free and accessible. A lot of people talk and click way too fast or don’t show you where they’re clicking on the menus and it’s frustrating when they assume you already know the basic program and start off at an intermediate or higher level. Thanks for the opportunity to learn.

Dude I am beyond grateful for this. I love long tutorials like this that don’t hold back and don’t wanna show you nada because it’s “their secret”. Whatever that is. I love this. I learned a lot. Simple and to the point. I don’t have procreate yet but I have CSP and can apply it when I have sketch ideas like this. This helps me when I am not so much focused on the sketch and then ink and then this and that. I like this better. I’m a person who has ideas to draw but cannot seem to get them on paper fully. I hope after this that stops.❤

I’ve used photoshop/illustrator my entire career (15+ years now) recently made the switch from my old gen Cintiq to my iPad Pro and procreate. This video definitely has helped me learn a few hacks that makes the switch even better! Thanks for sharing!!

I personally do learn EVERYTHING from KZfaq and you have no idea how much I do appreciate such a long video. Especially these last and finals steps / touch ups make the big difference about a good or a stunning piece of art and being part of that journey is just amazing! I‘ve finally through your video found out how the alpha lock and selection tool can help me to create these effects as I have seen it in sooooooooo many videos without ANYONE explaining how they do it. You’re a great teacher! I appreciate the time you take to teach in these longer tutorials. As someone that watches to learn, I enjoy seeing your full process from beginning to end. These longer tutorials where we can watch and have you explain why you go back to something and how you ‘fix’ different areas are very valuable. If I don’t have a full hour to watch in one sitting, I can always stop the video and come back and watch the rest later. 😊

This tutorial was amazing! I’m a beginner and wanted to try something start to finish and you did that! If I missed something or didn’t quite understand I just backed up and you were always explaining it clearly. I’m still not sure how to make invert work the way you did but I’ll just rewind again! You don’t talk too fast and your hands don’t move too fast and that is a huge help! You have a new subscriber and I’m heading to your website once I master this!

Saw this twice. First time I was just starting with Procreate...came back a week later and understood it so much better. Bought Skillshare for one month and was very disappointed. You’re right! I get so much more from KZfaq, like your instructions. I guess I bought the hype. Great class...simple and straightforward but with so many possibilities knowing the tools and various techniques. This was so well taught and for a beginner in art and procreate, I really appreciate the needed “handholding” with your detailed and clear instruction. Other tutorials I’ve found tend to move pretty quickly, but this flowed really nicely. Very surprised this was for free, but incredibly thankful for this in depth tutorial.

I don’t even use procreat yet, but I learned 3 massive helpful tips that work on the app I am using. The lasso tool and how to use it, the image lock button to stop shading the background too, and how to create drawings without lines! Love this!

LOVED this! Thank you so much! I learned so much about how to use Procreate from following this lesson. It was so helpful to learn that a palette can come from a photo and put into Procreate instantly. I understood, finally, how to confidently use layers, alpha, lasso. Though it was only 50 minutes, I took my time with it and made it last over a few days, coming back to each section and giving it my total concentration. The repetition of doing similar parts in the same way was a great idea for teaching new skills. I look forward to learning more about Procreate from any other vids you may have out there. Thank you for posting this!

26:30 this is where the add and remove on the selection comes in handy, you can fix up the selected bit instead of having to try and to it right all in one go. I like following along with these tutorials, you learn a lot about what you can do in this app.
