I love this lady although I am already through this phase in my carving techniques I really like the way she goes about giving instructions for absolute beginners i wish I saw this when I first started out it would've saved a lot of my projects that I messed up but had to learn through trail and error I had no mentor so I'm grateful for the tips I've gotten on KZfaq over the years it has more impact on people's lives than you realize

I can tell that this is going to be good. I really like her accent, and she is lefthanded, and so am I. I am so excited, so I’ll get back to the video. Oh! And I guess I am elderly, getting on towards 8 decades;-)

That’s a Portuguese hammer. And it’s designed so you don’t hit your hand with heavy blows for bulk working stone. If you glance a chisel with it it’ll bounce away and out if your lucky with is most likely. But with a flat faced hammer it’ll skim down and smash your knuckles. I’ve used them and yeah they make a huge difference, love my bell hammers

Stone MASON

@@astonedwalrus4183 same thing actually, masons shape stones to desired shape, size and length and to do that one must carve

@@warbossgrotsmasha23 I was a stonemasons apprentice mate. I did both. I also made statues and gravestones, primarily gravestones of granite and marble.

@@astonedwalrus4183 that takes a lot of skill and patience to do, i respect that instead of simply making a mould and cast it, i always considered masonry and carving to be in the same kettle :P

@@warbossgrotsmasha23 well they are, it’s the title mason tho. It does take skill and patience but I’ll tell you we cheat as well, sand blasting letters out with stencils instead of hand carving, it’s much quicker and more consistent.

A Native craftsman from the Granite trade center of the world Barre Vermont ..I have to day you weren't trained here... cutting a groove in a letter..and Vtooling a letter are two different things..those letters aren't finished really. The grooves hes has cut. Do not contour the letter and the tapering from polish to the center " v line" is non existent.. sorry..
