Well as you can tell, the world looks like pure hell, and the portal is said to be like a portal to a different consciousness, similer to the matrix. Ive never actually played the game and just went off a documentary of the game so dont take my word for it

I have a different idea. The "energy that melts everything through the portal" is the afterlife, the place where living beings burn and are "released". But, the parasite is also a predator, part of the corrupt, fleshy living world. In some way, the parasite is like an Amoeba that feeds on other cells, and all the material is assimilated. The female and male creatures are the peak of their technology, a mean for a higher end. In the world of Scorn, pain is not relevant, but being "released" is the biggest achievement.

the portal is just to ascend to a higher level of being by joining the collective consciousness. the character you play as was desperately trying to save himself in the end by doing the ritual and traveling through the portal. there’s a hierarchy to all the beings in the scorn world. the ones that come out of the red eggs are the most important ones, but all the different creatures have their own part to play. ik ur comment was ten months ago but i felt like yapping

It was explained that pain is a door to entering a different consciousness. That’s why he continuously stabs the body. The body is still alive, it was trying to swat away the parasite after the consciousness didn’t make it past the gate. At some point the body doesn’t feel as much pain anymore, that’s why it’s consciousness returned back to the body and didn’t make it through the gate. Also, the body isn’t dead. It’s on the brink. That’s why u see the parasite approach the body after it failed to enter through the gates. The parasite latches on to the still living body, becoming one terrifying monster thing.

Now latched on to you with no way to get it off, you have to adapt to it as he tries to borrow deeper, and deeper into your flesh and take your body for itself. At the end, despite the perks the parasite offered, as a tool to navigate through this facility, you manage to finally get rid of it. As you vainly try to get your body to the portal that is escape a paradise, the parasite scorns you, by latching onto you, and now fusing to your flesh, denying you the escape you desired.
