Level 99 Quickly in Suikoden II

In Suikoden II, the maximum amount of Experience Points you can get in a battle under normal circumstances is 60,000 against 6 enemies, therefore if you gain 1,000 EXP per level at Level 39, you can get to Level 99 in one battle! What I like to do is take a full party to the Tinto Area so I can get my party to level 39 with much risk of overshooting. Then have you main character attach a Blue Gate Rune, and lower his HP to somewhere under 100. Then take one Level 39 Character to the Final Dungeon and fight 6 Highland Solders. From there cast the Level 4 Blue Gate Rune "Empty World" It will take out both the Highland Solders as well as the main character, cause the surviving party member jump to Level 99! This can also be done with the Fortune Rune with Level 49 characters.

I replayed suikoden 2 for the first time in years today and only realized now what truly transpired in north swallow pass... I guess I was too young to think twice when I last played this game..

What's the earliest part of the story you can quickly get a character to level 99 using this method?

I thought I had heard that people have gotten characters up to Level 99 in the Rakutei Mountain Area, which you can get to super early with abuse of the Muse Matilda Glitch, or otherwise maybe halfway into the game, which I didn't believe, but after comparing enemy levels, I see no reason why this wouldn't work if you fought a group of 6 Pixies there. You could use the method shown in the video more or less if you got to Matilda when you're supposed to, as you can have a Blue Gate Rune by then. If you use the Glitch to get there early, you could still do this, it'd just be harder to set up without a Blue Gate Rune

you can do it with phantom via matilda glitch , but the highest level you can get is 80 , and it can be done once you have access to muse part of worldmap

the problem with min-maxing in Suikoden 2 is, the game's kinda too easy.... i wish there's secret boss / yuber fight or something in the remaster

Considering the number of characters in Suikoden you'd think they'd have come up with a better way to level them. I guess Chrono Cross did but it came out a year later. But then if I remember Suikoden III kept the old "everyone levels independently" shtick

I don't mind the leveling system in Suikoden as a whole, but I agree it's flawed if you want a max level party. I think a decent compromise would be if you could recruit a "Time Rune Specialist" or something where you could reduce any party members levels back to Level 1 so certain characters aren't locked out of power leveling

Why lvl 39 specifically? If there is enough xp to go from 39 to 99 why wouldn't it work at lvl 42 or something. Or just do it twice at lvl 12? Or is there some kind of codebreaking going on here. Also that Bond Villain pose at the start, mwah!

The way that Suikoden's leveling system works is unique in the way it scales EXP. The greater difference between your levels and the monsters levels, the more EXP you gain, but to a point. The most EXP an enemy can give you is 10,000, so if you beat 6 enemies, the absolute maximum EXP you can gain is 60,000 for a battle, so in order to get to Level 99 in one shot you have to be at least Level 39 as you can "only" gain 60 Levels in one battle. Once you've caught up in Levels you only get 5 EXP per battle. That all being said, I didn't actually check myself if say a Level 40 Character would also get to Level 99, or if they'd come up short at like Level 97. However at some point you'll meet diminishing returns on your level gain if you get too far past the threshold.

I've done this just let the whole party get ko'd except for the one you sent to level I've done it once or twice to get someone lik mukumuku I just like power leveling random stars especially the animals

Apparently this also works against 6 Pixies in Rakutei Mountain as well but I've yet to test it

That's a shame. Suikoden I and 2 are two of my favorite games of all time. I usually play them once a year. Great story and characters.

You could get Riou to Level 99 as well, it would just take more effort to get him in a position at Level 39 to gain 60 levels. Maybe with a similar set up in Raketai Mountain against 6 pixies you could pull it off

This footage was collected using the Duckstation emulator. It has a lot of graphical smoothing tech baked in, so you can pull off stuff like this

Its the original version, no mods used, the game sprite/artstyle just age timelessly.

@@melonusk6120 yes and no actually... he is using an emulator and using xbr free scaling that's why this is looking great..... and actually there is a hd mod for this game for beetle hw psx emulator in retroarch...

it's easy to beat him. you must have 2 advance rune (cyclone / flowing /mother earth) and use 2-3 characters that can use magical runes such as luc (cyclone/lightning/flowing), millie (blue gate/lightning), rina, zamza (fire rune), tomo (mother earth), etc. then other characters use double beat or double strike and fury

Just put lightning and water on every character who has sizeable magic stat. Level them to 36-37 (very easy to do in banner village). In battle spam lightning and heal with water. Should be finished in a jiffy. You can also equip fire sealing rune for Hero so he will take no damage from Luka

You dont even have to beat him 3 time, all that matter is the third team. Just pick some lightning rune user

Nothing else, make your way to the Matilda kingdom and battle Knights, 6 at a time for best results. Then do what he said.
