Christine Kobzeff good morning beautiful I have totally changed the way in which I purchased furniture and electrical... I purchase high end furniture... I search eBay and look for items as people are constantly moving and changing their lifestyle as such I have drastically reduced my spending cost as we purchase secondhand property and secondhand cars. If I purchase new I look for furniture that may have been used as display items. My home has really come together and looks lovely. I also keep my furniture pristine so that if I am to sell it later I will receive some monetary value of the item. This has meant that I keep within budget. I desperately wanted a bar cart and I helped my friend who had recently sold her Mothers home well when we went to the basement my friend said what do I want well guess what a gold bar cart was there so I asked would it be possible for me to have the bar cart and she said yes I was so happy I also was given some wine glasses as such I was able to put the bar cart with the wine glasses in my lounge and it looks absolutely beautiful as it is gold and my color scheme is grey with accents of gold.

I used to rack up my card and finance furniture like a fool. After finally paying off this last card, I vowed to never do that again. I’ve since found furniture that was even better quality than the furniture I financed through Facebook marketplace! I found a $2,500 couch and got it for only $400.. it looks like no one ever even sat on it! Second hand is the ONLY way for me now. Love your videos ❤️

You're good to point out these furniture stores. This is what's called the "poor tax." Stores like this prey on poor people who don't have the upfront cash. This is but one example of how expensive it is to be poor, and how the system keeps people poor. Not only are these sofas ridiculously priced, but their quality is very low, they are worn out before they are even paid off.

Yep...was in school years ago...and a gal..in my accounting program...mentioned how she financed a tv...and once it was paid off...she could have bought 2 tvs. She was at least 10yrs older than me and was just figuring that out...

💯 I'm frugal not because I have to, but because I refuse to pay for something that I can find slightly used. 80% of my home furniture and decor is purchased used and my house has beautiful expansive furnishings for a fraction of the retail price. Also, I have such an appreciation for vintage finds. ❤

My husband and I love Facebook market place and garage sales. We got a $220 sink for $20, wood laminate flooring for our laundry room and front entrance for $20, 3 solid oak end tables for $110, our dining room set, baby toys etc all really cheap. And we’ve made more money on things we sold than what we purchased. We made $50 on chairs I had gotten from someone’s curbside trash. Searching what people have to be thrown out is a good way too. That’s how my dad has gotten a lot of his garage storage and tables. I learned that from him, don’t be afraid to wait and put in sweat equity.

I'm a 30 year estate sale junkie/veteran. Your tips were right on. I'm in the midwest and the sales in my city start on Thursday and end on Sunday. Thurs. no discounts, Fri. 25% Sun. 50%. Occasionally a sale will start on Wednesday too. I use estate sales.net and check it out a day or two ahead of time and plan my route and also check the newspaper for the ones that don't post online. This may sound unscrupulous, but I pick up things that I'm not sure about as I walk through because I can't count the times I've gone back a few minutes later and it's gone. Here's a tip. Take pictures of your rooms at home on your phone. Then when you're trying to decide how a certain item will fit into your decor you can refer to your pictures.

We’re going to be moving to AZ next summer (perfect time to move to the desert huh..lol). I’m planning to leave a lot of stuff behind and buy it out there in AZ. But then I don’t want to have to spend thousands of dollars rebuying stuff I already own on top of moving expenses. But I also don’t want to haul a bunch of furniture to another state. These ideas are wonderful. I might start browsing stuff online at auctions and estate sales in AZ a few weeks before we move, to see what I may be able to find. I know for sure we were leaving behind our washer, dryer and fridge..so I’ll need to buy those items out there..but I wasn’t sure about my couch and bedroom sets. I’ll have to think more about it. Funny story..I actually found your channel by looking up videos about moving to AZ..and now I’m hooked on all your other videos that have nothing to do with moving..lol. Thank you for all the great tips.

Christine.Years ago when I was young and starting out thats what we did was buy furniture on time. You paid for furniture that they stored for you and when it was paid off they delivered it to your home. Buy any furniture today exactly how you do it. Save a lot of money this way. Found some really beautiful pieces over the years. Am downsizing now. Have given away most of my things to family and friends. Was hard but needed to do it. Only thing I buy new are my suvs. Need nothing else. Live in a tiny apt. Very cozy and comfortable. Good tips for anybody especially young people starting out. We don’t always need all the newer fancy things that our neighbors have. Anyway you can probably find it somewhere else or make it yourself and spend very little for it and it is probably better taken care of and better made than lots of things you can buy new today.

I love your ideas BUT when you live in a city that you have to worry about BED BUGS you have to buy NEW. I live in NY and I havent been able to buy used stuff for atleast 10 yrs now for fear of getting infested by bedbugs. And just for those who dont know, you cannot remove bed bugs as easily as you would a roach or ants or anything like that. They can stay living for many years in your house / apt just from eating on your blood once. It can cost thousands of dollars to get rid of bed bugs. Sometimes you can't even get rid of them and you have to move. It is a complete nightmare.... People have gone to therapy for it because they are so traumatized by getting these nightmarish creatures.

Arizona has bed bugs too. You wouldn’t think since it’s so hot but they still manage to stay alive. Those things are almost impossible to kill. That’s why I’ll never buy used furniture unless it’s metal.

Hi Christine, can you do a video on estate sales for ones like me who is a complete novice. For example, I don't know what you mean by "when they give you your number". I don't know how estate sales work. You talk about "companies". Why would someone have a company involved, wouldn't these be basically like a garage sale? Just an example of questions a novice would have.

I put my zip in estatesales.net. Literally NO estate sales. My husband and I live in farm country Pennsylvania. This area only does estate auctions or garage sales. My husband and I gave up on auctions because items are often really worn (we have a large elderly population here). If there's a decent piece of furniture, it usually sells for a premium price, as The Amish/Mennonites in this area seldom by new furniture and will spend bucks on something in decent condition at an estate auction. We have much better luck at garage sales, which are held by younger folks; you can often find quality items in decent condition at a garage/yard sale.

when you go to the estate sales inside peoples homes, why do the estate sale companies get to make money off these people and their families? why dont the families sell their own things and make money?
@zeninme7980
@zeninme7980 4 жыл бұрын
It can be way overwhelming to do on your own. Item pieces that the family wants is already removed. These people handle everything from staging to making sure they watch what happens in each room when people are there. They price items according to a depreciation scale to get a value. It could take weeks for a family to do it themselves. It also removes the emotional pressure. They are somewhat like caregivers and it helps the family tremendously.
