I'm 20, and I just started ballet 6 months ago...you'd be surprised by how many adults begin a rigorous ballet training even at an older age, and we are SO fortunate to have a teacher who cares about us enough to invest herself enough as much as she would in the younger girls. Basically, our teacher doesn't see the age, she is there to teach and teach she will. If you're asking this question, I would say go ahead and do it =). And work hard at it and give it your all!

I started pointe when I was twelve and absolutely love it! Some people say it hurts a lot but I don't think it does when you break your shoes in. I also have fantastic teachers who will not put anyone on pointe until they're positive you're ready, and I think that's part of it.

The coolest thing about barre is seeing the line happen, right there in front of you. Barre hurts, and watching my line, seeing it improve, was the only thing that really got me through it. Very meditative in a sense.

I got my pointe shoes when i was 10 and now im fifteen and dance almost exclusively on pointe. All of these excersises are fantastic strengthening and technique excersises that all pointe dancers should do.

I took ballet lessons since age 3 and I was ready for pointe till 11 , but i left ballet for other reasons. Now I really miss dancing

in my old pointe class because it was mixed with students who did it for 2 years we were thrown in at the deep end - one day i was the only newbay and ended up doing there work but it teaches you how to deal with the harder things fast and not to go into it early haha amazing dancers u have xx

Go for it kid! If you're determined enough and work really hard I don't see why you wouldn't be able to become a beautiful dancer =) (I'm 20, I did jazz when I was very little but quit and have only just re-started and will do my first ballet class next week, I'm not trying to get into the Australian ballet but hopefully this shows you are never to old to learn to dance)!

This makes me miss my pointe class last year! We did some similar things to this, and I remember my favorite part was ending the day with échapppés. Our teacher would put on a really long track, and we'd do as many of them as we could. I remember the one time I managed to get to the end (I think it was 64 all together) I was so proud of myself! Now someone else teaches my pointe class and it's too boring and easy. :(

I was about to turn 10 when I was put on pointe! And I love every day of it! I take class every day.

No :) I started when I was fifteen. I am almost eighteen now and I have been on pointe for a year and a half. My teacher said that I had very strong feet and legs though, and everyone moves at their own pace.

i went from ballet to pointe with no issues it was almost too easy but ive been doing ballet since i was 3 so that probably helped with my fast learning (ive been doing point for 3 years)

i went pointes when i was 11 1/2 i was one of the youngest ones in my class but i started ballet when i was 2. i still dont get how girls go pointes at 8 or younger this days, honestly, no matter how good you might be u have to wait for your bones to grow n have the right thickness.

@elizabethrice3 I've seen some dancers start at 10 or 11. And it was an academy in Russia. You start learning when you're young and you work professionally at 17.

I don't think so, My teacher picks those who think are ready to go on pointe.

How old do you usually start girls on pointe? I started when I was 12

i took ballet lessons in high schol just for fun. the teachers automatically promoted each class to pointe after two years, even though we only met once a week for an hour, and took breaks during the summer. i hated that the did that i left for this and many other reasons. is that kind of behavior normal in dance schools that don't specialize in ballet?

Do they all go on Pointe at the same time? Or is it like one at a time?

It is SOO nice to see a studio doing a class at the dancers' appropriate levels. It makes me cringe to see all the teachers on here that put tiny children en pointe just to give them something to brag about. Doesn't a "trained professional" understand how much damage it could do to a still-growing child?

oh my gosh they do like the exact same warmup as my pointe class, ahaha :) I like thier attire. our class leotards are just black.

Nope, not at all! Of course it is not the same as if you started when you were little, but if you like it you will learn fast and enjoy it :)

Im sure you could, but you would have to be extremely dedicated and work really hard. You should attend at least three classes a week if not more to help you improve and you want to make sure that you pick a class with a really good teacher so they can make sure you learn technique properly and everything, . Ballet is really hard work it requires strength and flexibility so you need to be determined and don't give up easily. also stretch all the time to increase your flexibility.
