Have you been wondering about how to level and seed a large yard?
Today I headed back out to help ‪@MrPostFrame‬ with seeding and leveling 2 acres that will eventually be his lawn. A lawn renovation of this size definitely presents its challenges but I wanted to show you the process on how to tackle this type of property and growing grass from seed

Applying hydretain would be perfect for this project! It was originally created to hold moisture in gravel roads and keep them from kicking up dust. It would help greatly in keeping the seed moist.

Thank you for this. This is the first video I’ve found talking about larger acreage. I had 88,000 sq feet and it cost a small fortune to do my yard. I got it done though and covered with straw using a straw blower. This is the first time I’ve ever put grass seed down so this project has overwhelmed me to the max. Glad to see I think I’ve done everything right according to this video. Now just waiting to see some sprouts 👍🏼

I do wish this was more about a large property that was being done with everyday equipment. I have a large yard and it's very rough but don't have the money to rent large equipment. So slowly by hand I will level it out. But I enjoy watching a new lawn come to life so I can't wait to see more updates on this yard. Keep up the great work.

Same here. We have nearly 8 acres just in the front, and it's practically huge garden rows in clay soil. 20 years of the owner cutting in one direction with bush hog and finishing blades. It's hell on our mower.

Hey Ryan, I really appreciate your videos and the effort to ensure that all the questions get answered. I've been watching your channel for a good while and had a question regarding lawn leveling on a smaller lawn like the one you've been working on across the street. I've seen the leveling tool/rake that you use, and your guides on how to fill low spots in general, but I've never seen a guide on removing a high spot in the lawn beyond bringing everything else up to that level. My plan was to use a tiller to break it up and then rake it level, but is there a better way that you've seen that I'm missing? I know you don't typically use a tiller. It was left from the running of a new sewer line and tree stump removal, but I've not been able to get it right. Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for the awesome content!

Getting ready to do the first cut on my blue/rye full lawn renovation this weekend. I have quite a few weeds and crabgrass popping up. The lawn was seeded on August 21st, rye started germinating 4-5 days later. My question is, when do you suggest I do an application of tenacity? I did not do an application of tenacity on the bare soil beforehand..I really wish I would have.

I just purchased your Root Hume, when exactly should I apply this? Right at seeding or should I wait until I have germination or slightly after germination, I have 10,000 Sq ft so I got the gallon bottle, just really want to do this right and have the best chance for success. Thanks!!

Hi everyone, we bought a new property on 2 acres of bare land. It’s dirt with rocks in the front yard and sides, mostly field grass in the backyard where most of the acreage is. It’s relatively flat land but the ground is lumpy, some rocks, and large tire ruts all over through the grass from construction. I would like to start prepping the land for seeding in the fall and landscaping. Any thoughts or suggestions on the best way to deal with this without breaking the bank? TIA! :)

I bought 6.5 acres of farmland in January to build my house on, I currently have no budget as everything is going to the house but I would like to have a decent yard space to slowly convert to orchard and garden space. The farmer plowed the field at the end of last season and through the course of spring and summer we had rows of wheat pop up and a lot of weeds. As it stands this land is not easy to get around on because of the furrows from plowing. I have a 48" tiller, a rake, a blade and a box scraper. I've already tilled a few locations and something grass like is growing. Would you recommend doing nothing this year, or tilling everything now and just cutting like its's grass as things grow next year?

So I have about 2 acres of mostly flat field thats covered in grass and weeds. I keep it mowed low currently but it REALLY needs to be leveled (lots of ruts from moving with tractor and some of the dirt and clay is clumped together making mowing VERY BUMPY) I have 2 questions: 1: could I fix the grade using a Harley Rake? 2: if so, would I need to kill the grass first or could I Harley Rake it as is? There are no "low" spots that would require fill dirt just bumpy terrain and ruts. ANY advice would be appreciated. Thanks and hope to hear from you.

So why did he take it all to bare dirt and rocks? Also why seed such a huge area if he doesn't have irrigation?

I have 12 acres to seed. I am hoping to find a farmer to do it for me.

I stopped watching when I calculated the $8k the seed alone is gonna cost me. Hahaha Maybe dirt isn’t so bad to have. 🤷‍♀️

Why wouldn't you hydroseed instead of spreading seed over the bare soil? oh you answered that later on in the video. I would still do it because that guy isn't going to be able to water it enough so he'll need all the help he ca get to keep the seed stable and in growing condition.

I see a lot of lawncare youtubers making a big fuss about a small percentage of weed seed mixed in with a grass mixture... I can't understand what the big deal is there. Yeah, it's annoying and not perfect, but... If you're going to germinate grass seed, you're going to germinate some weed seed no matter what. Whether it's in the mix you threw down or already existing in the ground, there are going to be weeds. Even with a proper app of Tenacity, a few weeds will still spring up. I feel like they are unavoidable until your turf is well-established. I've reno'd a few lawns and I care more about the variety of seed than whether or not there's a few weed seeds mixed in. Seems like you end up paying an unnecessary extra premium for that certification in my opinion.

Could be a very difficult to control weed though as well. No sense in knowingly adding weeds to a lawn
