Level boat/floor, then add water draw circles around all your puddles. Those are your low spots you'll need to glass.

Absolutely, been building a boat in my spare time, just laying up all the glasswork, epoxy it then having to wait for every cure before sanding and doing it all over has been testing my patience for sure 8)

I loathe sanding. I’ve done a few fiberglass repairs on our boat and I just don’t enjoy any of it.

Uneven flex patterns in fiberglass lead to cracking. Your best bet after levelling would be to do one layer of chopped strand or 1708 glass over the entire deck.

Agreed but prob not worth it for this boat. Also glass doesn't always stick to fairing compound the best mate.

If you mix resin with the bondo it will make if thinner, so it's easier to work with and just about self levels depending on how much resin you add, which makes for a little less sanding

Hmmmm. I do believe using some coosa board for ribs, stringers and the floor would have been quicker and easier in the long run. However it’s your project and you do it how you want to.

Bet you were a great drywall guy lol Most likely should have removed that cap added pot foam to and cut grind and level. Then reinstall the cap. However I can see the frustration and wanting to get this project done. Entrainment has a cost. I find this stuff enjoyable even the mistakes. Knowledge is always entertaining. Great vid amigo !

I don't know this history of this project, but is this really the best solution. This is probably a stupid suggestion, but why not plywood and glass? It would add some weight. I am not being a smart ass, maybe someone can enlighten me.
@BornAgainBoating
@BornAgainBoating 10 ай бұрын
Yeah, no worries. It's a really little boat, 13', and Whalers are "unsinkable" basically these things are all foam. Which keeps them buoyant, but they are also paper thin, which keeps them light. The wood and glass would be too heavy, and they are really curved for the way they sit in the water. So the deck isn't really flat. But this is a 1979 that went through a hurricane and other people building on it over the years. So it was trashed, and when we foamed it, the foaming process was a disaster, which warped the floor. So, that's the back story.

Is there a reason you decided to repair the old janky, unleveled floor and glass it back into the boat instead of just putting in a new floor that is already flat and leveled? Seems like it would have saved you a lot more labor and material.

What would a job like this cost?
@skidmarkzuckerberg
@skidmarkzuckerberg 11 ай бұрын
The materials cost likely exceed the value of this hull, and that's before labor. A hull in this condition is almost not worth it to the average boater unless you have deep pockets or can DIY.
@talitubi101
@talitubi101 11 ай бұрын
Everything in this project so far, in my country probably over a thousand euros. Glass and resin is expensive in these quantities. Like Skidmark said, only if you get your hull for free or close to free its worth it.
