Additional tip for frontlines is open your map and shrink it in a good spot on your screen then zoom out that you can see the whole map of the frontline and lastly click the "lock" icon so it doesnt close even if you hit ESC. This will give you real time map awareness for objectives, allies and enemy positions.

This. Awareness is the best ability you can have in FFXIV PvP. If I had to choose between a greeny knowing his PvP rotation and how to 'alpha kill' targets vs one that has Awareness and puts themselves routinely in proper positions ... I'd choose the latter. Getting KBs doesn't mean much if you are consistently out of position and not effecting the flow of the battle. And to you "Battle High" chasers ... if you're as good as you think you are, you'll get BH easily by being in contested locations routinely rather than chasing non-objectives in pursuit of BH. Stop doing the latter and hurting your team for your own pointless numbers that no one else cares about.

I still feel like the thing that really has held back Frontlines from being more popular is the tab targetting / controller targetting systems in FFXIV. It can be so hard to properly target what you want when you want. Even trying to manually click target can be unreliable. Other than that, I feel like the PvP is super fun for most Jobs.
@Copain882 жыл бұрын
The only time targeting is an issue is when you're fighting with like all factions in one spot and so you've got like 30 people to sort through. But those situations are pretty rare, and you typically can just aoe the crowd

Playing a healer on PS4 is the only time I've felt like using a controller is holding me back significantly. There are times where I wish I could have a mouseover macro or whatever, but it's usually fine doing any job, any content, on controller. Healing frontlines feels absolutely scuffed. To target people in my alliance from other parties, I need to untarget everything, sheathe my weapon, then madly mash left/right on the dpad. Anybody who needs healing will die before they get it.
@Kasaaz2 жыл бұрын
@@Metadaxe Sage is the first time I've been able to really play Healer on controller. I have Macros for Targeting and for my main shields, etc. But it's only because those are effectively instant cast that I feel comfortable. I played Scholar to 80, but it became a nightmare to manage the stupid faerie and have to deal with Aetherflow stacks and targetting everything, etc. I'm sure White Mage would be playable too, but I haven't tried it. Just Astro til about 40 when I gave up and Scholar to 80 so I could do the Role Quests in Shadowbringers.

@@Metadaxe while I agree that this is the only scenario where I've had issues as a controller player, for alliance targeting you can do L1 + Left/Right. The problem is that PVP is more fast paced and unpredictable that PVE content so having to tab up to 8 times to target someone in the alliance means they're probably already dead before the heal goes out.

Frontline is also an ok source of Poetics. As a casual player, i use my daily PVP to get all my non-main jobs to level up slowly. its a great way to break the 60, 70, 80, levels to get to 61, 71, 81 so you can then also run Trust Dungeons. The daily PVP gives half a level. Great for when you're not in a rush, but want a good chunk of EXP. You dont even have to setup your hot bars. Go in, then switch to your main. The slow surplus of Poetics can then also be used to buy the max leveling gear sets for each expansion range. if you're planning a slow, get everything to 90, this is a great addition to the various options to get you there. good guide.
@nadoProducer2 жыл бұрын
Very cool but two core mechanics you missed in this introduction for new frontliners: 1. Please please please put Medical Kit on your hotbar 2. Taking any attacks while mounted will inflict Limp (a huge slow debuff) on you, and that Limp will continue refreshing if you continue getting hit while mounted. And as a small note, the home base in Shatter is nearly worthless--it's 1 point every 3 seconds. Definitely not worth sacrificing your life to try back-capping or even reclaiming a base node. All that aside, thank you for introducing your audience to my favorite mode! I hope you continue to enjoy your time in FL rou and I look forward to seeing you all grow into bloodthirsty PvP'ers

The worst thing about Frontlines is that it only gives good XP once per day. Getting first place in subsequent games only gives about 10-12% of a level. I find it so fun, and would rather farm FL when I'm out of Roulettes, but it's just too inefficient that I feel like I'm wasting my time.

I feel like you said this but it's important to highlight. The experience you get from Frontlines goes into the class that you ENTERED, not the class you play as. So if you don't feel like learning the new MNK shenanigan or their outdated nonsense in Frontlines, just queue up as MNK and immediately switch to a job you like playing like NIN or WHM... You can then play the entire Frontline as that class and level up your MNK without throwing a punch.

The real problem is having to relearn your entire class and hotbars for PvP, almost all skills are different and some unique skills. Lots of combos replacing cooldowns. PvP is severely underrated in FFXIV in general, it's got jank but it's some of the only content in the game that is unscripted and unpredictable and if you play smart and guard your life as if it is your only one instead of jumping into danger over and over, it's really satisfying when you achieve victory because it is a well earned and hard fought victory. It also really simulates well a feeling of large scale war army strategy decision-making too, a lot to learn about hard decisions and priority-making and making the best out of bad situations, plenty of times I have seen unlucky last place teams come through as #1 in the end

@Copain882 жыл бұрын
Part of that is because the tactic doesn't work. If you're doing this and an enemy is just hording around they'll just destroy any defenders and butcher your points and farm off of you (since you lose points on death and they gain points).
@JasonNR2 жыл бұрын
That didn't happen much when it was ARR. Each alliance used to stay on their "designated" site defending/fighting until it was time to go to the middle. Alliance B was the back up to A and C and would help the side that couldn't hold their own or was being attacked by more than one alliance from the enemy teams. But with how it's played these days, I agree that it's a bad idea now. People just capture and leave, so staying makes you an easy kill. I just miss how it was played before because it was more organized, and people would actually play the objective 😅

ive been doing this for months its such free xp its ridiculous its dumb af and some jobs are hot garbo paladin for example xd also remember to use your xp food before you go in as you cant use it while inside machinist and bard are giga fun would reccomend
@taylon52002 жыл бұрын
Paladin is God tier if in the right hands and the right team comp. Tbh, most jobs are like that. There's maybe like 2-3 that aren't that great right now.

Im still too intimidated to try pvp out xD I’m the type who’ll just dash to kill when I see other players
@thebattlestation71132 жыл бұрын
Don't be intimidated by Frontline. I have days when it totally wrecks my adhd, but I still do fairly well. I don't even run regular duty finder dungeons because I "might" make a mistake. However, Frontline goes ridiculously sideways on a regular basis, which makes it almost relaxing (in a so bored you could scream kind of way/ or an omg, so many flashy things, and I bet I climb that mountain in the distance kind of way...) I'd at least give it a shot.

why is warrior like the best tank in pvp seems pretty unbalanced
@herstryp28832 жыл бұрын
It shows that you have never played with a Gunbreaker, the only tank that can do 3v1 and win
@TheEpicNub2 жыл бұрын
I hate frontlines now, it was perfect, now Tanks just spam stun you, throw you around like a fucking rag doll, not really sure how you find that fun honestly.
@Crystan2 жыл бұрын
Frontline is a terrible option for levelling. You get the daily bonus, and then never look at it again. Not only is it the least fun game mode, being horribly unbalanced, it also gives terrible XP outside of the daily.
@Jolsn2 жыл бұрын
Not sure how half a level per day for 10-20 minutes of playing is terrible for leveling. Sure you can't spam it multiple times but the xp value you get out of it is simply the best out of all the duty roulettes on a good day and still excellent on others
@jaymzraulfin22272 жыл бұрын
99% was great till you closed with the gate keeping; "if you don't do X, your playing wrong" Na, they are playing differently, perhaps sub-optimaly, but they are not spending their free time having fun "wrong".
@taylon52002 жыл бұрын
That's not gatekeeping, that's just being a detriment to your team. If you just dash in when you see a group of enemies you WILL get burst down. No matter what you do. Then, the ones you hit will heal back up and you're feeding the enemy points for dumb choices. It's by definition, the wrong way to play. All it does is fuck both you and your team by playing like that.

We forget to mention Frontline because pvp in this game is absolute trash. I'm glad you can enjoy it, but if I wanted to play pvp, I'd play literally anything else. I always feel awful after playing pvp, win or lose, becuase i just spent 15-20 minutes doing something I had no actual input in. The game just decided if I'd have 23 team mates who were asleep and just there for levels, or 23 sweaty pvp mains, and i had no choice in the matter.
@herstryp28832 жыл бұрын
Come on, your problem with the PVP is with the community and not with the systems KEKW
@chocomarmotte2 жыл бұрын
No input towards you winning or losing? A small handful of people playing smart, not feeding and building up their battle high can absolutely carry their team of 24.
@stuart75972 жыл бұрын
Eh winning Frontline is just too random and the queues are only fast for a few hours each day, I would not recommend levelling with it.
@Rysskylt2 жыл бұрын
Winning doesn't change the bonus exp. And it's less than dungeon queues unless you only play at midnight
@stuart75972 жыл бұрын
@@Rysskylt Yeah for sure do the daily roulette but anything more I don't think is worth unless you can win consistently or... if you just really enjoy frontline then lucky you.
@AGuyWithFace2 жыл бұрын
I feel like anybody who unironically enjoys 14's PvP have never played another game's pvp mode to understand just how bad it is. It's not even the systems behind the pvp that make it awful since they're fine enough on their own, it's the inherent latency you're forced to play with thanks to the game's terrible networking and insistence on server-side detection. You can be in melee range of somebody and not be able to hit them if they're moving at any speed in any direction, you can see someone drop to 0 HP only for them not to die and pop to full HP literal seconds after you've put a few more GCDs into them, you can use one of the tanks' grip abilities and it'll take seconds for them to actually get pulled toward you, and by the time YOU see them move their character has actually already ran an good 20+ yalms away from you. It feels like you playing in frozen molasses, and it feels awful. I still play it from time to time sure, but I can only stand it for so long.
@herstryp28832 жыл бұрын
I have played PVP from FFXI to BDO and I enjoy every match of this game and no, some things you mention are not true unless you play with excessively bad connection. The Meeles problem was solved 2 expansions ago when they increased their attack range, the problem you are talking about was in Heavensward and currently complaining about it is playing with a very bad connection. The rest of the problems if they are a big bug like the potions animation which is the worst shit I've seen in an MMO but once you know how to handle these problems it's not even remotely as bad as the one in FFXI or the thousands of other Asian MMO's .
@imrendered2 жыл бұрын
We havent forgot about pvp, it's just makes all the jobs feel really generic and boring, all of the things that make jobs fun are gone, exc... You want people really interested in pvp instead of just there for a roulette? tell the devs -> 10mil extra subs = 100mil more revenue a month and just like wow, they will neglect and remove things with dumb excuses instead of really just balancing pvp, or improving glamour system.
@ladwarcoffee2 жыл бұрын
I absolutely wouldn't recommend leveling off of frontlines. Queue times can be fast, if you're doing it in the 2-3 prime time hours, but outside of that you can wait over 2-3 hours and not get a single match. Pvp in ffxiv is absolutely horrible compared to other pvp in other mmos. Pvp in ffxiv heavily relies on full parties or more focus on a single target.

Hate pvp but love exp? Then this comment is for you! Simply enter frontline roulette, mount up and go find a tucked away spot by an enemy base. Afk here while moving your character once every 20 or so seconds and watch KZfaq or Netflix on your phone til it’s done! Enemies can’t see you on the map and friendly players aren’t likely to go near enemy spawns! There you have it, problem solved!
