I have one of these. They seem to get more reliable as they get older. Also, there is an element of knowing and getting used to their quirks. I suggest investing in spare extractors.

I have one in 10 gauge that was built in 1889. You have to crank the action with some force but it works swell

I had one of these a few years ago and had the same issue on the last round as well. Also under recoil the front hand guard would constantly work its way forward no matter how tight the screws were. All the edges were very sharp especially on the inside and I would always cut and nick my fingers every time I was loading it. I can’t believe how much it sold for on GunBroker. More than what I paid for it. Eventually I sold off some other stuff and got the chiappa it was very expensive but way higher quality.

Last round not ejecting is a way to tell your empty. Might been a good thing if things got hot back then. Hate to hear "click" when you really need to hear "bang".

Great video. I had been thinking about one of these but was scared off by a video I saw where a guy had a terrible time getting his to function well, but now I suspect he either had ammo problems or just got a lemon. That last round is kind of like a empty magazine indicator. ;-)

Last round it the "you're empty" indicator :). I have one and it's waiting for its smoothing job and maybe new wood.

Someone once told me that these sold like hot cakes in Australia because the lever action shotgun wasn't part of Australia's stringent gun restrictions.I could see that being true. I only shoot the cheap shells through mine and I really like it. The only issues I had with mine was that the front bead didn't last long and mine came with a fake leather wrap on the lever and it started to crack and fall apart.

It is true, and they were very popular for a while, now they are not so popular as they have been replaced by lever release and push button release shotguns, basically interrupted semi autos, which auto eject but require the pressing of a small lever or button, to allow the bolt forward after cycling

Its not just on the last round with the ejection issue. Some say it's because they're Chinese made but you just have to really manhandle the lever to eject. They don't like high brass either

I haven't had an issue with high brass in mine, it runs just about everything I put through it.

Hey duke. Hope you're having a good year so far. That thing looks like a lot of fun. I might have to check it out . Also my original Griswold and Gunnison is coming along and almost ready to shoot. I wanted to know was that holster still available you made. replicating the hell on wheels one. Also Talking to Garrett he told me you guys might try coming down next year for the antique arms show. If you do and you're on a budget. you're more than welcome to stay at my house. I have several spare rooms. Cheers

Howdy Snapper, the original customer finally claimed that holster. I have a bit of leather left so I can make another. Would love to swing out that way next year, hopefully it will work out.

Definitely gotta beat on that action like a red headed stepchild. Lol mines got the same problem... I cut some brass hulls to 2 1/4" and those i dont have to slam it around. Lol kinda odd. Ive been looking for some paper hulls to try, see if it improves.

The biggest problem with this gun and modern 2 3/4 inch shells is they grow to 3 inches after they're fired. I should have bought some brass shells a few years ago, now I can't find them. Glad to hear from you amigo!

🇦🇺😎👍my IAC 12 gauge lever action never has a problem ever providing I use the shorter 12 gauge cartridges. I always work the action like I stole it and I never have an issue. Mine has shot approximately 600 or so rds and is now butter smooth. I doubt I’ll ever sell it as it a great durable little classic ( chinese copy)

Howdy!..2 questions..Does the lever hurt the back of your fingers while cycling the action quickly ...? And have you ever thought about how much fun it would be to try to shoot trap / skeet with it...?

$360 seems like a bargain, I wonder how it differs from Chiappa or Uberti's same model that runs between $1,200 - $1,800? Anyone have experience with those models?

I guess you did well for the price of the gun. The 1887's are some of my favorite shotguns. I have an original 87 that I shoot as well as a Norinco with a drop two mod set up for cowboy action. I would want to figure out how to get that last round to chuck the last hull though. I recently picked up a 1901 in 10 gauge that I am planning a video on soon. I have videos of the others on my channel. Glad to see other lever shotgun love on here. Here is a link to my original if you'd like to check it out. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m8iTrLhpy8udqqc.html

I'm not speaking from experience. I'm considering adding one of these to my collection. From what I've been reading, I would lube the extractors and use a nobelsport 2.25" shell as the last round(1st one in the tube). This gun was designed when hulls were paper. The modern roll or star crimped plastic hulls are a bit long, after being fired, and can hang up when cycling the action.
