I delve into my airfix archive and pull out this Vodafone McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 car to build and review. You may remember the advert where someone builds and Airfix Kit with Lewis Hamilton driving it away. Released in 2008 it was the last kit airfix made that was classed as a Snap Tite kit
The MP4-21 was developed by the team for the 2006 Formula One season and introduced the now familiar distinctive chrome livery. This was the car that Lewis Hamilton tested in September of that
year, resulting in his appointment as a Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver for the 2007 season.

Great video. That kit looks like an adapted Scalextric car. I'm not really into F1, but I'd be tempted by a range of 1980s F1 machines in 1:32 if they were available.

I remember passing on this kit back then because it was a 2006 car with the 2008 livery, as stated on the box. That configuration was never seen on a Grand Prix. If it ever existed, it would have been on a show car displayed on a plinth somewhere in an airport or in a motor show. So why, Airfix? If it had been the livery of Hamilton's actual 2006 test drive, it would have made more sense. As for the kit, it looks like an unbuilt Scalextric car. In fact, the supplied plinth is a Scalextric part, L8323.

Great video Mos - according to Wikipedia - the MP4/21 The MP4-21 was designed by Adrian Newey, Paddy Lowe, Tim Goss, Mike Coughlan and Peter Prodromou.

The McLaren MP4-22 (2007) was designed by Neil Oatley and Mike Coughlan (Newey had joined Red Bull over a year before)

A lot of the F1 teams are based in the UK, why don't Airfix get on board and produce some 1:20 kits of the latest cars. Noone is producing the recent F1 cars, Alpha Models have produced a couple of recent cars in resin which are about 180 pounds. Gap in the market that someone could fill.

Shame airfix don't do f1 scale models like the normal SPRU, glue paint and decal type kits I mean. F1 is my fav type kits to build , can't you have a word and get airfix on it 🤣

To answer your guess, it was a 2008 release, so according to BoE figures £20 then is now £31.50. If you looked at it 4 years ago (2020) that £20 would of been £25.67

You don't suppose that the large screw went through the base to hold it on.

Hmmm.... does the long screw come in from under the base to secure the car to the base?

saw them when they came out, but didn't buy it. Wonder if you should have put the tyres in hot water for a 10 second to soften and make easier to put on. Thank you for the review
