Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar is recognized globally as a humanitarian, spiritual leader and peacemaker. He has touched the lives of more than 450 million people around the world, resolving conflicts through dialogue and self-awareness, teaching positive approaches to living including techniques to alleviate stress and anxiety, and by his example of selfless service.
Born in 1956 in Tamil Nadu, Southern India, Gurudev was a gifted child. By the age of four, he could recite the Bhagavad Gita, an ancient Sanskrit text. As a boy, he studied Vedic literature with a close associate of Mahatma Gandhi. Combining the ancient teachings of India with Western learning, he graduated from college at seventeen, receiving his degree in Physics.

My campus has the SKY organization present at my college (St. Mary’s College of Maryland) via a Student run club that I’m the leader of and we have found great benefits from people (myself included) utilizing meditation and SKY Breath Meditation in their life. It allows the individual to be in a calm and energized state of mind throughout the day which is especially helpful throughout the busy semester. I highly recommend the SKY Breath Meditation courses not only to students but to anyone that can do it.

Breathing is key. It the one thing that changes, no matter the emotion. Happy, sad, anxious, scared, lately for me, driving in heavy snow. If i control my breathing, I can get through anything. It’s also the one thing we started life with and the last thing we will end our life with. ♥️🙏🏽 Thank you for asking such thoughtful questions for these enlightening answers. @@juzen7 ,, Under ,, normal circumstands " I do agree. But when covid is close to give up your body and be okay with your own death you sure do have to decide and be in every breath you take and let go too. Thats the time you realise that death is just like birth, only the other way around. Ask any mom, when giving birth breathing is the key to limit pain and simply feel happy.... so it is when death is your guest. Breath is what connects you with life. As I read it here, its the first and last act to either get into, or out of your body

Sri Sri is out of the world. However, it takes a rare interviewer to draw out this level of discourse - someone who is completely tuned into the moment, who watches for the nuggets, keeps it open and morphs the discussion to further explore, nudge, for unraveling the treasures such a mystic offers. Kudos to the interviewer. Compare this interview with others of Sri Sri .. this is a rare interview. Bravo!

Not everyone can understand and follow what he preaches, because I knew a person who followed him immensely and volunteered in every possible way to his events but even after that he was a narcissistic person. It takes efforts to change. I wish everyone were able to follow his saying and be happy. Great Guru

I don’t wonder at Gurudev being so calm and so wise. Thats an established fact. But I am impressed with the interviewer for his relevant and intelligent questions which made the flow of conversation so enjoyable. He gives space for those pauses which are so much needed in this conversation.

This dude completely changed my life! 5 years ago I took the s.k.y course and was hooked. Did their meditation and even a silence course. I didn’t know how much trauma I was holding onto but through his teachings and courses I was able to face some things and release them and the power they had over me. Beyond that, this philosophy and perspective on life is significantly more conducive to happiness than the way I had been brought up in modern American culture. So much materialism and focus on money and “success” but not realizing that the goal of the money and material is in hopes that it will bring you happiness (beyond the money you need to survive).

Happy to hear that you have gained so much from his guidance.We are very fortunate to have access to such profound teachings. When a person matures as a human being his good qualities like gratitude, compassion, respect, humility ect. also manifest in their character. So I like to suggest that calling your teacher a "dude" is not very respectful. Please give it a thought. By respecting others you become respectful too. ❤️

@@lakshmiillangasinghe2799 different cultures maybe. There’s no disrespect in my “dude”. Maybe you associate the term with people you find to lack respect? One of my favorite ways to refer to him and my favorite teachers is calling them REAL wise guys.. traditionally that is a sarcastic turn of phrase, but the way I emphasize the real kind of reclaims that sarcastic tone and makes it a genuine statement that someone is wise. I like to think Sri Sri wouldnt worry too much about semantics and feeling like he is getting the props he deserves. Honestly I think dude and wise guy respects the levity and light heartedness he brings to such serious subjects. Just my 2 cents

I’m also pretty new to all this. I think most important is what’s in your heart. I don’t have a shred of disrespect or irreverence for Sri Sri or his teachings. I suppose I could see how one could take it that way. Just cultural differences :) take care!

I met Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in 1998 and I have been following his spiritual teachings since then. I have also been fortunate to teach his Happiness program. He has this amazing and simple way of expressing what we think are complex spiritual concepts. Instead, Gurudev helps us to understand that spiritual knowledge is natural to who we are.🙏🏼✨✨✨✨

I think about death often and always have, even as a little child. I used to shame myself for this thinking I was weird and something was wrong with me, but now I see what a gift I have in this unique perspective. I don’t understand how everyone around me is so oblivious to this and so invested in this material world.

Omg, I just realised that about 4 years ago when I used to meditate regularly, I was so certain, I was blissed out alot of the time. I was excited, I was focused. Then I suddenly became ill due to a protein and B12 deficiency, I am now physically healed but I gave up on meditation, and now I have doubt and depression. Looks like I will be meditating again. I remember being so happy when I used to meditate.

Love this! I could listen to him talk all day. There is something soothing in his voice. Then the content reminds me what is important in life: I realize how fear-based life can be, but it doesn't have to be that way. @@lewishowes these are all from indian scriptures. nothing new. Art of living and Isha foundation are the biggest spiritual cults whose aim is to gain power, money, use people for recruitment. There are many real Guru's who aren't into commercializing the Indian spirituality. The real Guru's call them commercial Guru's and don't have respect for them.

Excellent interview skills @lewishowes. Love your calm demeanor, patient and such inquisitive mind. Your wanting to know about life pulled out such incredible wisdom from Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar who is the best form of how a human can be at their highest. This is one of the best interviews I've heard, left me in a state of wow. I loved what he shared about the soul, prana-depression, the light and love he sees in each human and how we can too

There are beings that live on this planet that are already fully realized. I love this, how Gurudev is so humble, it warms my heart so much that he remains so pure, regardless of your innocence. In Sikhism too, our Guru guides us to remember death as permanent and life as delusional n temporary n ever changing n not constant n not permanent, thus not to get attached to anything but take life as it comes. 😊

This is an amazing video! I learnt so much and feel calm just listening to both Lewis and Gurudev. There is personability and relatability in their interaction. The questions Lewis asked are so relevant to what I often go through and Sri Sri's responses struck a chord with me. What I enjoyed the most were the pauses and silence during the conversation. Neither seemed to be in a rush to convince or keep arguing with the other. The whole QnA seemed to just be flowing smoothly. Yes! meditation and breathwork definitely help strengthen the mind! Thank you Lewis for posting this interview. i look forward to watching more videos from you and Sri Sri.

Aside from my family, a major part of my service is to my six rescue cats, two dogs, two parrots, and my garden and the tropical forest that surrounds me. Before retiring, my service was to my patients.

The interviews are so deep and inspiring and as Gurudev said,.it's all about simplicity..I think you're exactly where you're suppose to be and if there's even more to come from you, it will simply pour out of you! The questions you ask for yourself and on others behalf really make your guests even more helpful then when they're speaking alone.
