As teens in the 60's, we didn't fully appreciate the uniqueness of the music being produced except for the trailblazing Beatles and others. Musicians used the elements of melody, rhythm, harmony and dynamics in many varied and original ways. The average young listener loved it, but, on some levels, didn't know exactly why. It wasn't until rock & roll ran out of steam in the early 90's that our appreciation grew even more for the music of the 60's through the 80's. LLB brings that music to a new level because of the advancements in sound and video. The early British invasion brought color into the culture; before that culture was reflected in our black & white TV's. LLB brings music forward to a new sonic level by showcasing the song, not the artist singing or playing it. The emphasis is on those 4 elements of music that were there back in the original but we couldn't hear it because recording engineering didn't bring it forward. Even the artists in LLB discover, "I didn't know that was what he was singing," or "I 've been playing that part of the song all wrong all these years." You've taken the original "picture" of the song and pixelated it to a higher density and clarity. Video jukebox is a good moniker. Your younger participants don't know how MTV was revolutionary to us when it began in 1980. Adding story and content to the song made for a different level of entertainment. Artists like Eric Clapton added cameras to their shows with large screens so the audience in the cheap seats could see their hands playing guitar. That became a staple of arena rock. LLB has taken that and brought to social media. That's part of your secret sauce, building and enhancing on what came before. Your approach of controlled presentation and tight editing, suits the medium in ways that other "cover bands" haven't developed. Hats off to you Mike & crew. Your labor of love shines through on each video.

13:31 Exactly! Even as someone who grew up in the '70s listening to much of this music, my ear is frequently drawn to _new_ things that I had never noticed, precisely because the visuals draw attention to the details of the sound! So well done, all of you! 👍👍 If only I could get to Lexington or you could get to Seattle... 🤩

H-m-m! This interview has just given me an inspiration about LLB. LLB's success and the joy that this band brings to the world is grounded in their Christ-like approach to each other..... an approach that is difficult to find today, in government, in families, in business environments, even in some churches. That is utterly AMAZING!!!

Back in the mid to late ‘70s, while my friends were gravitating towards punk, I was discovering bands like Boston, Heart and REO Speedwagon who, quite frankly, were only getting minimal airplay in the UK. It was covers of these which led me to LLB. Austin’s keys drew me in and Jessica ‘Wilson’ blew me away. She absolutely nailed the Heart covers, and always seems to be having such a blast, irrespective of track or genre. And as my local bands are Slade, Sabbath and Zeppelin, I adore the covers of ‘Ramble On’ and ‘Stairway’. Now give us some Tull and Rainbow.

While nostalgia is a big element of the band's popularity I must say that there are two other elements equally important here. One of them is the purity of being true to the music and another is that you are awakening a whole new generation to all of this great music. It updates the music and makes it accessible for the new audience but preservea the integrity of a time before autotune. Thank you!

Austin hit on something that brought to mind the albums, 8 tracks, cassettes, etc. Many times I bought albums because of the artwork on the album or because I heard one song I liked. Then as I played the tracks I had never heard before. I later enjoyed other tracks than the one I purchased for the album. This is where LLB excels! Many of the songs they play, I would label as not my favorite song on the album but WOW, when you see it performed, you fall in love with it. I am so happy for the people involved with the whole LLB experience. What wonderful people.

Lexington Lab Band is the GOAT of cover bands on youtube ... Period!! I've always had kind of a crush on Jessica lol. Her singing is so beautiful and so is she. I love all of these musicians and singers and you can tell they are doing it for the love of the music. And it speaks to my upbringing and teen days. I was kind of shocked to hear Austin say Call Me the Breeze was the most difficult song for him but that says a LOT about Billy Powell. He was a bad dude on keys no doubt. I actually talked to him in a chat not long before he died and it didn't go well at first because I was telling him he was full of it and not the real Billy Powell lol. Turned out he was though and I ate crow over it but we were cool in the end. God bless Billy Powell and RIP brother.

Very good interview, Ms Kornet is on her game as well. The Rock era is largely over and the original performers are aging out of performance. The way this music stays alive and relevant is by performance - not just listening to the recordings of long ago. I think Vandy is a minister of music (?) and maybe some of his ability to see and grow people comes from that role- worship music is not about the performer. Ministers of music often have to grow the talent they have available, so stretching these fine musicians is just a natural extension of that.

So much I'd like to say but...2 things: 1. If Vandee wrote a book on leadership it would be a best seller. 2. Regarding the popularity of Waiting for a Girl Like You. In my opinion it has to be the way it opens, with the same feel of the original version. It draws you in. And then The Angel Voices (Jessica, Kaitlyn and Amanda) start to sing... and that is truly next level vs the original. Other songs have these elements too so, who knows?

Can't sing, play guitar or keys like you guys. If you run out of songs you would sound great on Counting Crows, Little River Band, America. Why no Beatles songs? As one of the fans that grew up with this music, I certainly appreciate many of the questions and comments. I will also add a bravo for the interviewer, she brings out a lot by her questions. When the younger members speak of the new ways of accessing music, it brought me back to groups of kids gathering around someone's car because they had the only copy of Dark Side of the Moon, or the great new band Van Halen, etc. To this day I remember the magic of the day a friend's older brother came home from Auburn University with Pronounced and Second Helping the summer of our Jr year in high school. Today, we can listen to any and all types of music where in the past, your music was often greatly influenced by the taste of your friends. At 64 years old, I still remember that Greg and Tony turned me onto Pink Floyd, David was The Allman Brothers, Joel shared Rush and Mark was the one whose brother turned us onto Skynard. LLB absolutely brings memories alive.

One of the things I love about LLB’s videos/tracks is that NOW it’s so much easier to hear the little nuances of each part than it was 40+ years ago. So I can appreciate the hours that Randy puts into learning his part, and that Austin and Jessica take to rehearse their parts before recording them. We aren’t listening on little handheld radios these days. The playback hardware we all has access to now was not available at any price when I was growing up.

I had been watching LLB since the very first video, and when their "Waiting for a Girl Like You" cover came out, I probably listened to it 50 times in the first week. It was like nothing they had yet done. Everything about their version was special, from the dream-like vibe to Mike's perfect lead vocal to the gently throbbing bass to the look in Amanda's eyes while she and the girls were doing the bgv's. Have no idea why they are surprised. It wasn't the algorithm that made it go viral.

@oldwest517 totally agree to the extent that it ( "Waiting for a Girl")is better than the original. It's different and more excellent in the overall production. Having just discovered LLB less than 5 years ago, I appreciated Randy's time in explaining the process to me. I'm old enough to be his and Mike's dad, but it pleases me so much to see the dedication, commitment, and finished products. They show their concentration and joy with all their members. These interviews confirm and validate the collegial attitudes and collective satisfaction within. I use my leisure frequently listening to LLB Playlist. I wanted to attend the live show this year but will be in Grosse Ile, Michigan for 60th reunion and need to get back home to care for my dad's sister who is 99 years old. Should be able to make '2024 if it doesn't sellout

Randy and Austin are such cool guys. Absolutely my favorite players. Boston said it best. "More than a feeling when you hear those old songs the used to play". That's exactly what this music does. That's why we love them so much.

Austin was born too late? NOT!! While he may not catch the borrowed phrase from the Ponytails circa '58, His talent and affiliation with LLB is GOD sent. Thoroughly have enjoyed his mastering in 22-23, and his colleagues and team members acknowledge without exaggeration his genius. Wow, has he grown. Thank you Austin !!

Waiting for a Girl was the first I saw of LLB, and as these guys noted, it sent me digging through the entire catalogue. The reason it went viral was because of the incredible duplication of a very distinctive original.......with a slightly popped bass part which actually gave it something the original didn't have. The beautiful girls on backing vocals didn't hurt either 🙂

Outstanding musicians and video productions...I've been watching for several years now and as a musician myself, I really appreciate the dedication to getting it right every time! Also, these interviews are great too and can anyone share the title of the interview intro song?

Ok, now I am interested in what other instruments Austin plays. Good to hear from the core group that keeps a bit of familiarity in the videos.

Played in bands for 35 years or so and certainly identify with what LLB members were saying about "Bands", it is very true. Would have loved to have played with a group like this with the same goal. Listened to these songs from my youth and yes they are right, you remember. It's just very special and I appreciate LLB very much and love the music they are playing. Onward!

It’s great to see some of the behind the scenes people. (Along with some of my favorite musicians and my favorite vocalist! I grew up with this music and listen to LLB to hear the best covers! (Most of which I like better than the original!) 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I absolutely love this band in whatever form it may be. And I have to say it's not only the music that keeps me coming back, but to see it being played live is just as much of a draw for me.

Hearing Neil talk about his kids "falling in love with this music" is the greatest result of the LLB IMO. Exposing this great music to people who are not from that generation and having them find out exactly how great it was (in a large way) is the payoff. Loving these interviews!

You didn’t just have to buy the album. You had to call a radio station, request that song, then sit by the boom box/cassette recorder for that song to come on and hit play&record together at the right time.

As I was watching this vid, I replayed "The way it is" Keyboards are indeed cool! The depth of your music has yet to find any boundries. "Flirting with Disaster" is an example of that. If LLB decided to do Joe Bonamassa doing "Midnight Blues", I wouln't be too upset

Thanks for sharing guys. I went back over the 'catalogue' --- in my opinion Only The Beginning, by Chicago is your magnum opus performance (vid, mix, techs everything). That is a long challenging set piece of a song, almost orchestral in a sense. That unrelenting pace drives along and then there are a hundred essential sounds, drum fills, bass lines, BVs, keys, relentless acoustic guitar etc etc AND on top of that rock WITH brass. You did EXCEPTIONAL work on that I'd say. I listen to it quite often. Thank you for reading this! God bless, from NZ.

I thought the same thing about LRB when Randy talked about people "Reminiscing". LLB needs to cover some LRB! Thanks for all the behind the scenes insight. LLB crew's love of the music shines through in every video!!!
