I also struggled with this issue for about a year and then I called one mechanic and he knew what it was off the bat, just from what I was telling him. These cars are design icons and also the most quiet straight six engine ever when it's working properly. Only thing I hate about it is that it's an interference engine. VVti solenoid and SK20R11 spark plugs solves it!

Nice video. Always good to see people like you help the car community. I clean my little filter every 12,000km by the way I seen the little copper banjo washer underneath it when u did it all up. My VVTI solenoid went bad, did the same thing in my manual 1gfe. After replacing, the idle was not as bad but it had destroyed the temperature sensor under the alternator making the computer think it was still cold or hot after each start up, i tested the Ohms reading and it was all over the show, i Replaced it an all works like new. Word of advice for anyone, any engine components Replace with OEM or toyota/lexus computers won't work properly, they don't like aftermarket parts.
