This is a video I made to compare the sounds between two of the best sounding V10 powered cars ever made; The Lexus LFA 4.8 liter VVT-i V10 and the Porsche Carrera GT 5.7 liter V10. It's a tough choice because both sound amazing, but this video may help you decide which one sounds better!

CGT is IMO more of a raw sound and I prefer that over the LFA´s sound which is truly amazing too. LFA has various acoustic parts so the sound is amplified tho. The Carrera GT doesn´t have any of that. But yea both engines sound great, no doubt in that.

LFA sound is like a musical instrument. Very clear. Porsche has pop sound sometimes. But I like both :)

Yamaha also makes music instruments while they also made V10 engines for Tyrrell F1 at the late 90s, so they know how to tune it. Porsche only made an underpowered V12 (basically sticking 2 v6s stuck together) for Footwork Arrows which were only used until the 1st half of the season at the 1995 season for making way to use the Ford DFV V8. So Porsche had no real experience to tune the sound, which is really sweet considering you can hear the pops compared to the flute-like Yamaha exhaust.

Sound signature is almost identical. Gt sound muffled in the super high frequencies, and the LFA is more open. LFA 100%

I really don't think you could go wrong with either one. I think the LFA does sound more refined, but it's quite a bit newer in tech terms so it should be.

Both are pure eargasm, and it is a very hard choice to make, but that Carrera GT just takes it for me. That high pitched, almost wailing of that V10 makes it just a touch more dramatic and emotional for me. Still, the LFA is a total beast of it's own.

When I first heard the manic exhaust scream accompanied by the wonderful mechanical whine of the GT's running gear, I followed it to a near by Porsche dealer where I was allowed to put my head into the all carbon fibre engine bay. I'll never forget that car's angry sound, the best ever. The LFA's sounds better in the video but . . .

The CGT had a deeper exhaust note but the intake howl is phenomenal, at least from the outside. The LFA has a much higher pitched sound overall, both intake and exhaust, more like a screaming F1 V10. Hard choice but I'd go for the LFA.

The developers over at Yamaha made an amazing sounding exhaust with the LFA! They made it so that at lower revs (0:21), the motor growls in a lower pitch, then screams at higher revs (0:37) The Porsche's pitch sounds high in low revs (0:30) and higher in higher revs (0:54).

Lexus LFA of course. Revs up to 9500 rpm so it howls and screams much harder than the 8400 rpm revving Porsche Carrera GT. Also, LFA engine also responds much quicker. Evo UK magazine did a head-to-head comparison of LFA and Carrera GT. LFA won the comparison.

Carrera GT is the better drivers car. The LFA uses flappy paddles. The Carrera GT uses a manual transmission. That fact alone makes the Carrera GT more desirable.

1001speedster I could understand someone preferring manual transmission as true driver's car. No argument there. However, I was only talking from a perspective that LFA's engine revs higher up to 9500 rpm, sounds more high strung and the sound is unreal of the LFA. There is an owner who owns both of these cars and he says, he loves the LFA more. That also includes Oracle CEO Larry Ellison.

Porsche engine is still better by virtue of more power and torque. Its a shame such an excellent sounding engine as in the LFA was wrapped up in an underwhelming looking and heavy Japanese car. Imagine if Italians had been given this engine. If this engine were in a 2500lb Italian exotic it would be so much better. Biggest let down of the LFA is its looks and performance. Lap times be damned, if YOU yourself can't access those laptimes, its pointless, which leaves straight line performance. This thing gets beat by the first GTR in a straight line, which is realistically the only performance capability you might be able to access and get close to its limits. Rather have the Porsche at the end of the day. Sounds the part and looks the part.

This is a solid vid where you can compare both. I think I like the sound of the LFA better after watching this. It does sound a bit more raw, yet precise with banshee type scream...also screams more openly and the higher revs help make the sound sting better. For some reason the GT sounds a little hallow/muffled, but similar in F1 type of sound. LFA wins by a somewhat decent margin to me. I'd say 65% of me wants the LFA and 35% wants the Carrera GT.

If you had to listen to one car for the rest of your life it’s surely the LFA. It’s perfectly refined. The CGT however awakes something primal in me. Something that cannot be explained, it also soothes my nostalgic yearning for F1 cars of the past and that is why if ever given the choice it would be my pick.

The engine in the CGT is straight out of a Formula 1 project (for Footwork Team F1), and then the scrapped Le Mans 93R project to succeed the 911 GT1. Nothing synthetic about that, it's a car that was the manifestation of a program to race in the highest of competition levels. As good as the LFA sounds (and it dose sound magnificent), it doesn't have that to it's name. The win has to go to the Carrera GT for the true Motorsport soul that is the engine in that car. Truly magnificent.

Carrera GT has so much more of a howl to it. And a higher pitch whaling sound. Its just incredible. The LFA is a little too raspy and gravelly compared to the smooth song of the Porsche. Obviously both are incredible but I think the Carrera GT takes it.

LFA makes more power per liter though.. 553 out of 4.8L, VS, 605 out of 5.7....

I agree. Although I perfer the LFA when it comes to lower rpms. It just has this nice deep bass note that compliments the high pitched fundamental really well (sorry about all the musical jargon). But this is just for the lower rpms; overall I prefer the Porsche.

i remember playing forza with a friend back in the days, he was behind me in a Carrera GT, and as closer he came, the more i was feared alone by the sound. Its an Intense Sound. I was happy after he finaly surpassed me.

I've heard an LFA speeding side by side with my porsche 981 gts on the highway for about 12 miles, although it is high pitch, it was incredibly underwhelming. It's a monotone pitch, not very loud. The carrera GT on the other hand is incredibly smooth, the revs climb up and down like a howl and growl of an animal, it's a much more powerful car and sounds much louder in person.

Carrera GT all the way man.This engine mid to high revs sound exactly like Ferrari's 3.5 liter V10 they used back in 2003-04'.What an epic soundtrack!

Mekhi Harrid Yes, Ferrari have made 3.0L naturally aspirated V10s for their and Minardi F1 cars in the late 80s and from 1995 to 2005.

I've seen and heard a Carrera GT on the road at least a few times, and I think it sounds awesome.

LFA sounds absolutely astonishing, but for me, the GT just about takes it, with the balance between engine and exhaust, I can hear both clearly and I love that. Especially with its age now 😍

Notice the water inside the reverse-light on the Carrera Gt - I had a Dodge Omni with the same issue.

I love the carrera gt, but damn that lfa... I remember the commercial they had of it where it breaks the champagne glass lmao. i saw one at the north american international car show before it came out, and they talked about how long that car was in development. it took them over 10 years.

That sound of Carrera gt reminds me of my childhood nfs games. Great low end, like a jet. However lfas top end is the best engine sound ever tuned imho.

1:54 I have replayed this so many times. The sound is just like a bewildering demon crying and running away.
