Hello & Welcome to the 1st video collection of 2019 from Harnetty Railways
In this video we look back over the last 4 years between 2014 & 2018 of pacifics at speed of The London & North Eastern Railway.
We featuring 5 pacifics
The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust's A1 pacific 60163 Tornado. designed by Arthor Peppercorn the last chief mechanical engineer of the LNER.
Arguably the world's most famous steam locomotive The National Railway Museum's A3 pacific 60103 Flying Scotsman designed by Sir Nigel Gresley.
Finally locos we review are Sir Nigel Gresley's masterpiece design The A4 pacifics which 3 out of the 6 preserved examples we see in action in this video.
The A4 Preservation Society's 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley named after the 1st chief mechanical engineer of the LNER.
Jeremy Hosking's 4464 Bittern & John Cameron's 60009 Union of South Africa or better known by enthusiasts as number 9.
60163 Tornado
The Boarder Raider in July 2014 when the A1 was in BR Experiential blue livery.
The A1 in Scotland in June 2015 in BR Express passenger lined Apple Green.
Tornado on The Western Mainline in August 2016 along the seawall at Dawlish.
Tornado on the WCML in the Midlands between Rugeley & Litchfield in November 2017.
60103 Flying Scotsman
The Inaugural run through Doncaster from Kings Cross during it's 1st run in BR Express Passenger lined green since returning to steam in February 2016.
Action on the East Coast & West Coast Mainline aswell as along the Tyne Valley route towards Newcaste from Carlisle in 2016 & 2018.
Finally from the A3 The Settle & Carlisle reopening train heading south in March 2017.
60007 Sir Nigel Gresley
At Northallerton during the A4's last run in July 2015 on the mainline before overhaul.
4464 Bittern
On the WCML from Crewe & through Doncaster at Night on the ECML.
60009 Union of South Africa
In fine fettle through Doncaster in May 2014.
WCML action between 2014 & 2017 including taking part in the 50th Anniversary of The Scottish Lowlander tour.

I've especially wanted to mention that I personally feel quite amazingly outstandingly easily sure that Arthur Peppercorn certainly INDEED basically 100% assuringly MUST looking down from heaven alongside Sir Herbert Nigel Gresley knowing their own creations are STILL running excellently strong!

GREAT STUFF - THANK YOU FOR GIVING MORE OF US THE OPPORTUNITY TO SEE AND HEAR THESE MAGNIFICENT BEASTIES. AWE-SOME. The younger generation don't really understand the passion for these trains. Im 23 years old. Ive been in absolute love with steam locomotives as long as I can remember. I absolutely wish that I could of seen the heyday of steam power, but I am glad that we've still got these locomotives preserved and running

Steam locomotives is all about hard work and definitely thrilling at the end for those who had experience with it. They should run these events once or twice a year and rejunuvate love for public transport.

I've especially wanted to mention that I personally do wanna completely obviously 100% wholeheartedly agree that Sir Herbert Nigel Gresley along with Arthur Peppercorn surely must be already looking down from heaven knowing that their own designed Pacific type of steam-driven railway tender locomotives known as Tornado along with the sole-surviving member of the L N E R class A3 Pacific type of steam-driven railway tender locomotive known as the Flying Scotsman are basically making both of 'em very proud, and especially since it's basically obviously clear that there's no doubt that Alan Pegler along with Bill McAlpine are ALSO basically both looking down from heaven knowing that the locomotive known as the Flying Scotsman who'd been claimed to be known as Gordon's brother certainly would BASICALLY ALSO apparently be making both of 'em! Besides, it's completely obviously clear that there's no secret that Arthur Peppercorn MUST be making Sir Herbert Nigel Gresley very proud SINCE Arthur Peppercorn was basically his successor!

The damage has often been put down to Duddington's inexperience of real high-speed running. German crews (our great rivals) stated that had he left the regulator slightly open when 4468 had to slow, rather than shutting the regulator completely, the damage would have been avoided. Certainly Gresley was planning another crack at the record to at least make 130mph, but War got in the way... PS Gresley himself only claimed 125 for Mallard (which ties in with the figure on the Dynamometer Car roll). 126 'could' have been done for a few feet, but no more. The 126 appeared on Mallard's flanks in 1947-8, and the 126.5 was claimed by Duddington in a radio interview.

Have you ever noticed that when an American steam locomotive goes out, it always has a diesel locomotive that goes along with it (insurance requirement?), while the British steam locomotives do not? I guess the Brits just have much more confidence in the quality of their restoration/preservation work than the Yanks!

That's not always the case. Even if you look at this film, you'll see a diesel (Class 47) at the back of Flying Scotsman's train at 6.40. The reasons why, in Britain, they sometimes do and sometimes don't are connected to various factors, ranging from the operating companies involved, to insurance, to the route's gradients, and, of course, what you say - faith in the steam engine's reliability. There is also the issue that on some routes there are no turntables or track-triangles to turn the locomotive; and if a return along the same line is required, a double-cab diesel is the obvious solution. Most express steam locomotives are not designed for running at speed, tender first. I don't know as much detail about steam in the USA. But I remember reading in the British railway press about two reasons why diesels might be used in a steam special in the USA. One was that modern braking systems needed more air pressure or air quantity than that specific locomotive's Westinghouse brake pumps could provide; and another was that the carriages needed electric power for lighting and heating, beyond what the steam engines had been designed to deliver - if they had been designed to deliver "hotel" power at all. (That latter point can be an issue in Britain too.) When I stretch my memory, it seems to recall that diesel backups are a particular feature of the Union Pacific steam runs, but not so much of other companies. I'm quite likely to be wrong about USA practice.

Yeah I was told that the diesel backups are normally there just for power to the coaches more than anything.

The only steam train in Mexico current circulates in Cuautla. Mexico besides has a Great story with steam technology, started in 1869 and ends with the chrysis of 1980 when N de M was privatized and converted in Ferromex and México Canadian Railroad.

I for my part honor (and envy) the Brits for not minding too much about taking their steel-beauties for a challenging ride...

I've especially wanted to mention that I personally just suddenly came up with the idea of building another L N E R class A1 pacific type of steam-driven railway tender locomotive in honor of both of 'em who'll be officially called Gordon, and especially since it's basically obviously clear that I'll simply make plenty of modifications including a LARGER boiler with a certain amount of working boiler pressure! Also, apparently for another fact is basically that I've especially decided to paint my newest addition to the L N E R class A1 pacific type of steam-driven railway tender locomotives in the color of L N E R apple green with the official acronym for the L N E R on each side of the tender locomotive's tender WHILE the official #4 gets painted on each side of the L N E R class A0 pacific steam-driven railway tender locomotive that I'm personally gonna build with a certain fine 2 corridor tenders instead of only 1 tender as a specific way of basically letting Gordon the Big L N E R class A0 pacific type of steam-driven railway tender locomotive cover verrrry long distances @ exactly 100 MPH top speed very easily without having any necessary need to take on more H2O as well as more coal like his own official only sole-surviving brother known as the Flying Scotsman !

My number 1 favorite number for the LNER Class A3 Flying Scotsman (1923) today in the 21st century (2000-) part of the 3rd millennium (2000-) is 4472.

What are you trying to say? Flying Scotsman only ever had 3 numbers, 1472 (GNER days), 4472 (LNER days) and 60103 (BR days/how it is preserved now)

The whistle of Scotsman is a bell whistle. Hence why it may not sound like Scotsman back before, as the whistle went through some changes

It was an experiment at the time during during January 2019 to see how it can go while it has had mixed reviews it wasn't ideal going forward so from February 2019 it was removed.
