I introduced my 73 year old mother to this song a couple months ago. She sat in my car and cried right along with me. The only way I can describe the feeling you get from this group is... Emotional. My mom passed away on May 6th on hospice. She said they sounded like what she imagined angels would sound like. I hope she was right and she hears these voices all the time now.
@sparkytuttle2966
@sparkytuttle2966 2 жыл бұрын
My heart is both broken to read your text but it is also filled with joy because you got to spend loving time with your mother before she passed. It feels like you were close. Don't know if you always felt so close, but none of that matters now. You have to know that, like the song says, 'your circle won't be broken...' Just because you can't see her doesn't mean she is gone. You can't really see wind and yet it can be one of the most powerful forces on earth. Please, don't take little odd things as just coincidences. Things that you associate with your mom, like her smell, her music coming on when you had just thought about her, your power flickering, or things like keys missing , then immediately found...even vivid dreams...all of those things could be your mom. She's just letting you know, she is not dead. She will always love her entire family. If you need her, speak out. Your mom knew what angels sound like and one day so will you. But you can't go until your work here is done. Great story you told. Thank you.

@@sparkytuttle2966 I really needed that, thanks. I'm currently in Las Vegas, NV dropping off some of my Mom's and my Dad's ashes with my stepbrother. My lights were flickering before we left the house and her death really hadn't hit me until this trip. Thanks for your kind words!

Your son full up FROZE when he got Mitch-slapped. Priceless. And you're right - the group's blend is so good that no one voice sticks out above (or below) any other in the group unless it's the lead part. And the lead part, no matter what the song, always feels like it's still part of that one blend, just a little bit more forward.

Luckily, this song is not a religious song. It was written by Leonard Cohen about the end of a relationship. It does have biblical references but that’s ultimately not what it’s about. Pentatonix did a good version but the best version (Cohen thought so as well), is by K.D. Lang. There’s a beautiful, mournful quality to her voice. It’s definitely worth a listen.

Your son's face didn't disappoint when Mitch started singing.😄 There have only ever been 5 members of Pentatonix at one time. Scott (tall blonde, baritone), Mitch (countertenor), Kirstin (alto/soprano), Kevin (beatboxer/tenor/cello), Avi (bass 2011-2017), and Matt (bass 2017-present). There are no extras, and the reason they look different is that some change their looks a lot, especially Mitch and Kirstin. Also, they're going to look different in the newer videos compared to the older ones. I believe where you saw only 4 perform was probably when you watched Aha Singapore. All 5 were actually there but Kevin was putting his cello away at the beginning, then joined them on stage. The person who was taking the video didn't show Kevin. They did do a couple videos in between Avi leaving and Matt joining, so I guess technically there were only 4 for a short while.😉

So the group started out as the 5 in this video, Scott, Mitch, Kirstin, Kevin, and Avi. They won the Sing-off and that's where their career started. They all performed and covered many songs together. A few years ago, Avi, the bass, left the group due to personal reasons so they got a replacement, Matt. Those 5 still continue to make music together and they are 6 of the most incredibly talented people in the world.

When they perform this live, Kevin has a stomp pad to amplify his stomping sounds. But it's all him! 😊 There's only 5 of them. Avi was bass for 7 years but left in 2017 due to serious family illness & burn out from all the touring & recording schedules. They recorded, I think 2 videos, with just 4 of them and then Matt came in to take over the bass. That's the only member change they've had in 10 years! Kirsten & Mitch change their looks - hair color and style, etc - a lot, so sometimes people don't realize it's them, but it's always just the same 5. Amazing, aren't they. 🥴 💞

Pentatonix won “The Sing Off” 3rd season (2011?) They moved to LA, and were dropped from the record contract a week later. 🙄 They then went on KZfaq and started posting videos and grew a huge following - 19M subscribers and counting ATM! Now they tour regularly, and have really come into their own! One other thing: Avi is the bass (low part, Jesus looking guy.) He was with them until 2017, and left for family reasons and started a solo career. He was replaced by Matt, who is different, but no less exceptional. That is the only change in the group in 10 years. So if you see people who look “unfamiliar” it’s probably Mitch (high male voice) or Kirstin (only female) who change their looks a LOT!

It never gets old when someone hears Mitch for the very first time. You really need to listen to them sing “Carol of the Bells” live!

There are few songs that hearing them make me cry but that's usually because of a memory of a time or person that's attached to the song, this one however invokes tears just from the sound of their voices. I'm in no way a religious person but this strikes something deep in the soul. I can't not cry within the first few notes. 😇😢

*⏩ My goodness. What a nice-looking young man!* Love Pentatonix... (and Jesus!) The best part, they are an accapella group, meaning ALL VOICES, no instruments. *Pure TALENT!*

I love how much joy you get out of this song! One of my favorites!! Also there are only 5 members to Pentatonix. Scott (blonde), Kirstie and Mitch all went to school together. Kevin (the beat boxer) is an original PTX, Avi left due to his mom being sick and their tour schedule was brutal. Avi helped them find Matt to replace him. Avi has his own career now, he tours as well as teaches in a music school he co-founded. Pentaholics are usually quickly hooked for PTX. And I love watching people when they get "Mitch Slapped". My first song that I heard was "Mary do you know". I was hooked!!

Fergie is from the Black-eyed Peas. She's their girl singer. That is the same group that gave us Will.i.am. If you don't know who he is, I can't help you, man. Dad, Mitch-slapped is when Mitch starts singing and you feel your jawbone hit the ground and your eyeballs become wide as platters. There have only ever been six members. The only change was when Avi, the second singer, the guy with the beard, left the group for family reasons related to the health of his mother. Avi is the bass,and he helped them find a new bass. The guy they found started unofficially in September, 2017. Officially he became a new member in March, 2018 I think. The first guy is their baritone, and he sings bass when the bass does a lead riff. His name is Scott. The girl is Kirsten or Kirstie. She's a mezzo-soprano whose whistle notes are possibly limited to dogs hearing. Then comes Mitch, the guy with the angelic voice and the wide brim hat. He's a countertenor, but I still think he's capable of reaching coloratura soprano. Then the black guy is Kevin. He's their beatboxer, and he's arguably the best at it in the world. The replacement for Avi as bass is Matt. He's been a quality change (you can't replace Avi, just take over for him). If you want to see one with Matt, try Sound of Silence, or even You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch. That's going to really introduce you to the sick skills Matt has. Kirstie and Mitch change their appearance pretty much every video. That's why it appears they have more members than they do. They have had a couple of featured artists that have sung with them, one being Dolly Parton doing Jolene which won them a Grammy award. They also won for Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies and for Daft Punk Medley as well. They were also nominated for their album Evergreen, but didn't win that one in 2023. In 2024 they've been nominated for the fifth time. This time it's for their album Holidays Around the World. And that's a decent thumbnail of the group.

I’m late to the game here, but the pure joy and excitement you have for music and especially this band is beautiful. I love that you are showing your son your love for music. By the way, the Pentatonix Christmas music is life.

The only change to the group was the bass Avi( the wth the beard) who left in 2017 . By Christmas they got their new bass Matt . All other members are same since they started singing together as a group for the show "THE SING OFF" a compatition show for Acapella groups only. It started on NBC in 2009. PTX won the show in the 3rd season and Home Free won the 4th season. The show only had a two hour episode instead of a season 5 in 2014 which was the last one for this compatition.

Actually, only 1 has changed. Mitch, Kirsten, Scott and Kevin have always been there. Avi, the basso profondo left. His replacement is named Matt. He joined in late 2017. Kevin is the beatboxer. He also sings, plays the cello, saxophone, and other instruments. He's masterful! They all are! I'm a Pentaholic and a Homefry!

That was fun! Now I want him to react to Daft Punk or the Evolution of Michael Jackson. 😁 PTX ALWAYS has five members. It’s named for the pentatonic scale (5 notes per octave). In the 10 years they have been a group, there has only been one member change. Avi left and Matt came on as the new bass. However Kirstie and Mitch love to change their looks and confuse people. The ‘trio’ (Scott, Mitch, and Kirstie have known each other and sung together since they were kids tho).
