When side by side, it's insane how much the matte coating destroys the perceived vibrancy and contrast in a bright environment. You'd think the G4 is the QD-OLED. Samsung's decision baffles me.

At the premium OLED price point I think Samsung is starting to put itself at a disadvantage by not supporting DTS and Dolby Vision. If I was paying top dollar for a flagship TV I would want all the top features available.

LG G4 vs A95L would be a nice comparison.

Great review and info as usual. I live in the UK and have seen these tvs side by side or be it in a shop and I couldn't see any real difference and any one buying either of these tvs with a good panal fingers crossed won't regret it. I've also recently come across certain people slagging off others on KZfaq in regards the g4 saying the tech is dead but at the same time buy the g3 it's just as good but cheaper honestly at the end of the day buy what tv you can afford and what is best for you and make sure if possible to demo it the best you can. I myself have an old tech dead tech Panasonic jz2000 and I'm more than happy with it as I was my previous tv a Panasonic gz2000 which I gave to a relative.

S90D seems to be the better choice compared to the s95D No matte coating No one connect box (dropouts)

Installed a new 77"G4 a few days ago after having a 82" Samsung NU8000 for 5 years. This TV is something else! It's so glorious in HDR for movies, Xbox Series X & PS5. A truly wicked TV. Very happy customer.

Can you record a TV program (or pause live viewing) to a connected USB harddrive? Also, can you record a TV channel when the TV is off? I use both features a lot on my old 2015 LG 58UF830V with WebOS 2.x.

Can you go more in depth about the thermal throttling issue on Samsung OLEDs? Last years S95C apparently also suffered from this issue if I read in your forums correctly? Do the S90 class OLEDs also suffer from this? But looking at your review of the S95D it seems to happen only at 10% windows or does it also happen on other window sizes too? Please go in-depth on this issue just like you did on burn-in as these two (heat and degradation) are inseparable. 🙏🙏

I'm pretty sure the Samsung's lack of contrast in ambient light is partially from the lack of a polarizer layer in addition to the matte coating.

how is the hdr experience of these compared to a qd oled monitor? it's night and day or my alienware aw3423dwf can get close? (with the hdr peak 1000 mode)

Good video from a technical perspective. I'd like to see a good comparison between WebOS (LG), Tizen OS (Samsung), and Google TV (Sony) from an actual user perspective in common task such as changing the TV input, opening apps, etc. The last Samsung TV I setup made me want to throw the remote through the panel.

1:30 I like this solution! it looks janky at this point but I want most of the electronics of the TV to be external so that it can be easily repaired, replaced, upgraded (though price usually a problem that buying a new TV than a new central processing box)

Putting a matte screen on an OLED is just stupid it literally turns the dark blacks more grey, you might as well just get a qled tv

Did the Sony A95L solve the Dolby Vision problem or is it better to consider the LG G4 for home theater?

I had the S 95C last year, initially it really impressed me, but after six months I started to experience loss of signal black screens, I tested my games consoles and PCs on an LG CX that I still on with the same leads and had no problems at all no dropouts, it’s strange because I didn’t get this problem until after about six months of using the s95c, I suspect it may be the one connect box which other people claim to have had the problem with

You say the LG has dimmer 97” models but you left out that the sony and the Samsung qd-oleds don’t offer 83” or 97” models

Good comparison Rtings I appreciate it, but honestly this comparison is not as close as it's depicted here. Although it may not be as colorful as the Sammy or the Sony you wouldn't know it when you take it home, infact you would think it's the most colorful TV ever produced, believe me I know. Without me being biased this was an easy decision for me. The LG clearly offers more, gives off less heat, which is a hell of a plus for an OLED panel especially with that kind of brightness. And I don't know about other folks but I have yet own an LG TV that have failed or had any issues, and I've owned plenty as well as some Samsungs. Also for me LG track record on pushing out updates for their TVs , even their older models have been quite shocking and greatly appreciated. I still get updates on my CX. Now as far as customer service I can't speak on that, because I haven't had issues with any of my LG TVs that would require me to call customer support. No flickering, no sound cutting out, no issues with the TV not turning on or turning off randomly. No pairing issues, no problems with soundbars or home theater systems. No HDMI handshake issues, no screen burns. LG TVs for me have just been superb, may not be the best but perfect for me. So with that type of personal experience, LG TVs is always my first choice, as I generally stick with what I know. Yes I own a 77inch LG G4, do I think it was worth the money I paid, honestly no it's too expensive, but I'm a sucker for technology and things with a history of working the way it was meant to without issues. And with that said I enjoy, I am stunned and absolutely love my G4. Hats off to LG.

Samsung: you make an OLED but put a matte coating on it eliminating that "blacks look black" look, you charge premium prices for it but exclude Dolby Vision.

I've seen the G4 and S95D. The Samsung's noticeable color depth advantage is more than worth sacrificing the slightly better white brightness of the LG. If I were in the market for another OLED, I would choose QD-OLED. Now if only Samsung would iron out its quality issues.... But I helped a friend wall mount a U8K. That thing is spectacular, my next display will be an extra large mini LED. I am willing to trade the deep perfect blacks for the Hisense especially when it costs only $2000.

Does the Samsung retains the review values on prolonged real world viewing or they have used the cheat program again that boosts values when review gear is connected to the TV like in 2021? QD-OLED already has issues due to lacking a polariser ... now they further "improved" this with a matte screen !? ... somewhat strange me thinks ;-)

I think you are overplaying the color difference favoring Samsung. The difference in peak saturation is negligible. The only measurable difference is in green saturation. Also, in brightly lit rooms, like yours, the Samsung looks washed out probably due to the matte coating.

I'm a bit baffled with the obsession about DTS. I own an S95B myself and yes, it is annoying that it doesn't pass-through DTS, so I have to run my audio through my amp or soundbar. But saying that DTS is the best possible sound on Blu-Rays is simply not true. Dolby TrueHD/Atmos is as good and in Atmos' case, superior to any DTS variant. That's my only gripe so overall this was a good comparison.
