The noise you are hearing is the rattling of the air filter..all you have to do is put black tape around the edges of the filter and it runs silent..easy fix.

Good review. I bought this model (LG 8,000 btu) 2 years ago and am hot natured so I use it pretty often. It has worked really well so far. No issues at all, and I have used mine heavily. From April-September, it pretty much runs constantly. I agree it is a bit noisy at times in Fan mode, but not enough to bother me. I think LG makes one of the best air conditioners today. I like how they allow for proper draining of condensation too unlike some other models. My LG runs great and efficient.

Also...run your AC in "Dry Mode" and it will cut your bill almost in half by running the motor on low and lowering the humidty to around 40%...get yourself a humidity sensor.

I ordered LG 8,000 and had to return it because it was HUGE and barely fit in the window, but once in, it only cooled right in front and down the line from that. A few feet to the left of it? It didn't cool. So, I returned it and got a GE, smaller and works better.

There's no way to pitch it more, it's as pitched as it could be (The wings on the side will not match if I pitch it more). I do think it depends if you live in a very humid area or not. Water pretty much drips at a good rate when this thing is running. It's been running like this for a week now and works very well.

I have the 10k BTU version of the same A/C unit. It's been 5 years, almost to the day, that I purchased it. It recently started leaking and spraying water into my bedroom and the fan sounds like it's going to break thru the housing. The filter is cleaned regularly. I didn't have a problem with the fan on high, although I do agree that it is a bit loud. I guess I'm going to research this now before I toss this one in the garbage!

hey! Thank you for the GREAT review! I've been looking for an AC window unit for this summer! I have two options getting a 5,000 BTU for my room or a 10,000 or 12,000 BTU for my living room and kitchen so that way I might get some cold air to my room. I think my apart. is around 500-550 sq. ft, Which window AC unit would you recommend me?

That high pitch noise that you hear is probably the water "sling" taking water and splashing it on the coils for better cooling. DON'T drill a hole for drainage. Make certain it's pitched back a little with a level. The water is probably hitting the fan blades making the high pitch sound. Pitching it back will probably eliminate the noise you hear. Tell me,how many square feet is the room that is being cooled?

Mine died after two years (it was cleaned before). The fan just stopped. I think the capacitor may need changes or the bearing seal died. The compressor looks OK. It is hard to fix the bearing...so I will try the capacitor to see if it works. Otherwise find a new model that works. Last one was GE 5000 and it lasted 8 years...so may be another GE?

You know I got a New GE AC it worked really well, no rattles, consistent sound. I didn't review it because I wanted to give it some time to really run it through it's pace. A week ago I wake in the morning and the thing is spitting out water from the vent. So at that point, I was saying to myself, that's it, I'm drilling holes so it drains. I did, and now it works really well. I think in very Humid areas it must be a must. I can see how in a dry areas it can help the function of the a/c.

I don't think it's noisy at all! Very nice white noise. Does a great job cooling. I don't hear a high-pitched sound and I have good ears. Perhaps put in the drain in the back--unplug the cap and stick it in. Perhaps you have water accumulating to cause noise. There are 3 L-brackets supplied for added support, 2 go on the outer sill, and one goes on the right side of the air conditioner on the inner sill. I see you don't have the right sided L-bracket on. Maybe this is the cause for the vibration. Also, bring curtains in to cover side panels--there is a lot of light coming in, and use a thick shade.

85nikki96 I just installed a LG 10k BTU unit for my master bedroom. Looks like a solid fit. In AZ we get about 100 days of 100f weather, so I plan to keep the rest of the house at 85f, and my room 75f. Expecting to save money. Runs pretty quiet to me. I am happy with it and regret waiting so long to get one.

I think drilling holes was a mistake & you should have pitched the unit back a little & this would have eliminated your problem. As I mentioned, all the research I conducted claim that the water that puddles in the outside portion of the unit is scooped up by a sling & splashed against the coils to cool them. Others have mentioned that pitching it back eliminated all noise and other problems. I hope the unit doesn't overheat and cause problems. You might want to fill the hole & pitch it back.

Panasonic or Friedrich are the best "window" air conditioners in my opinion. There cold, quiet, and will last quite awhile; about 10 yrs +. Noise can be similar to a home microwave oven. Downside is pricey. I though LG was good on this production, but after this vid i'd stick with my guns. Thanks for the video.

Oh,its pitched alLredy? And it spat water from the vent? Hmm. That's strange. I'm just repeating others observtions not to drill a drain hole and why so. Well, keep in mind humidity doesn't puddle up in areas on it's own (unless it rains). (Is there an outside vent open or not completely closed?) That's water condensation from the unit while performing it's function. Keep an eye on it. It my overheat with out that water supply and ask certified GE AC guy what he thinks.

I've seen your review of the Keystone. LG & Sharp are better mid-tier brands. The noise isn't bad @ all. As another poster mentioned, no A/C is totally silent. Panasonic made some of the very BEST A/C units, but got out of the business 6-7 years ago. If you want a solid unit, then stop buying cheap to mid tier A/C's. Simply buy a Friedrich. Yes, they will cost more, but they are worth it! Don't you find repacking these A/C units & returning them to be a PITA?

With all due respect. You would pay more for a used iPhone than this air conditioner. The ability to cool down a house at $199.00 is quite remarkable. I don’t understand why you are having so much problem with gaps. I wish I could help you with it, since my unit had almost zero gaps. Actually they do make much quieter AC units, lol. You would need to pay more. This is a good unit for the price. Thank you for sharing your video.

How large is the room you are using this in? I find that most people buy ACs to fit the exact size of the room they are supposed to cool. This is a huge mistake. The room will never seem cool enough and the AC will always be working. It's better to buy a larger AC for a smaller room. It won't have to work as hard to cool the room and it will use less electricity. I learned this the hard way having killed of two window units that the third one i bought was no less than 10,000 btu for ab out a 400 squ ft room. It was like living in a freezer. As far as being quiet, i thinkj yoiu complain to much. I would be grateful to have an AC at all even if it sounded like an outboard motoer. Get some ear plugs pal.
