There was a shareware version which included only the first table (the one played in the video). It displays that message when you register it.

For what it's worth, I was in contact with the person I bought this from, and they had zero qualms with the invoice being shown. It was an address from 24 years ago and is no longer valid anyway, and if they had a problem with it being out there they wouldn't have included it in the sale to begin with :)

Lazy Game Reviews about philips quitting game-stuff: they sold their chip-manufacturing branch to ASM which then became ASML and it's currently the largest company in my region, they don't create consumer electronics anymore they create the machines that create chips, so your Iphone's processor is probably printed on one of those ASML machines. so that's the explanation why they don't produce gaming hardware anymore....

The insensitive nudge seems like a major shortcoming, since I'd think the main reason one would buy a massive pinball controller would be to get realistic-feeling nudge action. But those clicky flipper buttons look good.

As a big pinball fan, this looks really cool. It's totally set up like the front of a pinball machine; the plunger and the flipper buttons are in the right places-- and, if you have a good standing setup, it seems like a really good approximation of what it's like to play on a real table (as opposed to controller-manipulated simulation). Shame about the tilt/nudge feature being so difficult to use. Nudging is one of the natural things that comes with playing on a pinball machine, and it's not implemented very well (or very intuitively) on PCs/consoles.The Wii came closest to getting it right with its motion controls (via Pinball Hall of Fame), but it was a bit touchy. This peripheral could've been near-perfect if nudging was better. Laughed my butt off at the end of this, too! Thanks for putting this video together. I really enjoyed it.

It's bizarre that Philips went to all this length to make an arbitrary controller, but not also make it compatible with their CD-i system too :S It would have been perfect for the system, especially considering all the other wacky controllers it had. Also that game looks uncannily like Pinball Dreams/Illusions/Fantasies.

imstill notusingmyname Hm. If you'd be willing to make some sacrifices or resort to using keyboard alongside it, i think it could be done. Flippers for left and right hands, tilting to move, plunger for sprinting? But you'd have to use the keyboard for the rest, like taking a drink and dodging, unless you mapped that do the lunger instead...

Philips is still huge in Sweden. They make tv´s now mostly. BUt also the odd dvd bluray and Hifi stuff. They marketed the Magnavox stuff here aswell. So the Magnavox Odyssey 2 is called the Philips Videopac in Sweden and i think all of Europe. Philips is considered a quality brand here mostly.

Mikael Andersson Philips has not made much since 1999 they out sourced it all now. They only design an invent now days. Acer bought Philips computer rights. All TVs now days Philips. Sharp. Toshiba shop brands are now days made by a company UMC. Universal Manufacturing Company. Just like Samsung out in consumers by buying Pye brand Microwave design rights of Philips as Samsung Spain was making all Philips microwaves. In fact Sony TFT televisions in Europe EU were made by Samsung Spain since 1996. Sharp bought Pioneer (Philips high end) out ad Foxcomn bought the lot out in 1996. So mass electronics these days is made by Samsung, UMC and Foxcomm. Same went for white goods. Philips is a ODM not a OEM now days. Original Design company.
@qazwsxedcrfv4183
@qazwsxedcrfv4183 7 жыл бұрын
Foxcomm bought the lot out in 2016. Foxcomm also make Apple stuff. Samsung OEM and ODM make parts even for competatives such as Apple, such as the new 2017 IPhone OLed screen is said to be made Samsung. Its all becoming one brand now days called China.

Philips is big on many media standards. Cassette tape is all Philips, Sony and Philips were the main force for DVD, Philips and Pioneer developed laser disc, and like you said Philips was the main force behind CD alongside Sony. Philips might actually be the most influential company when it comes to successful media formats. Certainly up there with Sony.

Virtual Pinball is such an overlooked genre of games. Possibly the most overlooked. Yeah, there was a lot of titles back in the day. But they were also low budget and mostly slept on. And today, barely anyone even makes pinball games. There's also tons of opportunity for developers to do things in virtual pinball besides just simulate live tables. Stuff like Kirby's Pinball Land and Sonic Spinball were starting to try and merge pinball with other genres (in this case platformers) but didn't really go all the way with it.

Lazy Game Reviews Is that so? For such a big peripheral that's enormous for something that's never been unboxed or maybe used but still in it's original box.

There's just something indescribably hilarious about pulling a big red plunger in order to shoot that had me absolutely dying. Oh, man. I was cracking up.

this must be the 1st bit of oddware that you've review'ed i would acually quite like to own,it would have been interesting to see it being played on future pinball or pinball fx 2 tho.

I like the music in Absolute Pinball! It's very jazzy and it reminds me of the Sega Genesis and Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

That's actually a rather cool thing. Amazing that you played GTA with it.

I read in an enthusiast site that you are supposed to slightly loosen the screws on bottom, which makes the bump feature work better.

What a disappointment that would have been. For something so large and for that price they could have at least put a standard plunger and a simple circuit to detect the pull distance. Since it's just a fake keyboard it could send a different key depending on the input, and have a dip switch setting to send just a single key instead to be compatible with other games.

FyberOptic We _are_ speaking about Phillips here. The exact same company that uses an inferior power circuit that degrades over time inside their Senseo coffee machines. Easily fixed with a 2 Euro part but you need some ironing skills so most folks trow away an easily repaired machine and buy a new one for 80 Euros. Speaking of planned obsolescence... :3

+FyberOptic I don't know of any games from that era that would've detected pull distance; and especially having it be a keyboard emulator I have no clue how you'd even emulate that
