This is an In-depth explanation of how they accelerate the particle in the Large Hadron Collider. Well done video by CERN and hope you enjoy.

I heard that at full power, the particle beam carries the kinetic energy of a freight train at commercial speeds. They had an accident near the beginning where one faulty supraconductor opposed resistance to the massive power flowing through, and if I recall correctly, the particle beam deviated and made magnets move. And by that, I mean that it lifted fifty 20-ton magnets about a foot upwards, tearing anchors. That really makes you appreciate the scale of the energies in play on this project, and how far mankind has gotten in its mastery of the very forces that define our universe.

More like a car at motorway speeds. Still bloody impressive though.

just curious what if you sent two particles one spinning clockwise and the other counterclockwise and likewise from the other way if they collided in that manner at those speeds with that make any difference
@robertgerald51714 жыл бұрын
I think what I'm saying is while speeding up the particles what if you revolve them while rotating them in reverse counterwise of the revolving creating more friction
@owariyf30974 жыл бұрын
this would make superpositioning so easy to unserstand if sumn that small is spinning faster than light then its elementary particles can be observed as positive or negative or even both at the same time

So all of the initial energy goes in according to p = m * v up until a certain speed, and only then do we introduce relativistic Mass/Momentum? I think not!
@Sanguine8302 ай бұрын
So you’re saying, the mass starts to increase way before the acceleration is maxed out?

So basically the reason the universe was created is because of particles hitting at the speed of light. And because everything accelerating reaching faster speeds, that speed slowly becomes mass and the particles smashed so fast that they created the big bang?
@baab42292 ай бұрын
No not really. The video is oversimplifying. LHC cannot reach the energies of the Big Bang, only energies shortly after the Big Bang.

What does the collision sound like
@chrisville254 жыл бұрын
It's in a vacuum, so no sound. Since there's no air for "sound waves" to vibrate through a medium.

@@chrisville25 is there any waves that can be converted into sound, like radio waves for example

It can split particles into their constituent building blocks such as quarks and gluons and help us detect new particles.

To cause collision. If two accelerated particles collide, new particles can show up - like the higgs boson - even if it's just for a short time. But we can study them and understand the world better.
@FG-yo9tm9 ай бұрын
Im not a physicist but as far as I know, these particle accelerators make two oppositely travelling particles collide as you saw in the video. At the time of collision the particles have so much energy that they get converted into matter(mass) which can be called as the building blocks. By studying these building blocks for example higgs boson, we can propose a complete or ultimate theory of the universe. Using which we can answer everything.

If Indian scientists want to win the next novel prize in biology, then they will just have to discover the source of magnetic sound, micro gravity waves, on hearing which dogs and cats automatically start crying before someone dies, this will reveal the mystery of death and If we find a way to find Sanjeevani, then even the unconscious person can be brought out of the coma.
