This bestiary, dating from the mid-13th century and now housed in the Bodleian Library, is one of the finest produced in England, where there was a passion for these richly ornamented depictions of the natural world. Several bestiaries have survived the centuries, some heavily ornamented in gold, some as large as church Bibles, but of them all, this exquisite manuscript is the most charming. A perfect example of medieval illumination, it is clearly the work of a master artist and scribe - though richly ornamented in worked gold, the delicacy of the painting and the affectionate intimacy of the animal scenes are never overwhelmed. Opening it now, we can sense the pleasure the artist took in this work and the delight with which the completed manuscript was first received.

As an avid Comic/Graphic novel reader...I too can appreciate a book as beautiful as this, due to watching your channel I Have broaden my horizon and now have a small collection of the Barnes & Noble lbc, it's refreshing to experience books I would not normally read, and feel that this may be the early beginnings of my leather bounded journey. Thanks man

Looks awesome but too much money for my blood at the moment. Only books I have paid high prices for are fantasy, but this could be an excellent centerpiece for anyone's collection. It's crazy how there isn't a huge community on KZfaq for this kind of collecting, but I guess most people our age aren't interested in these things. I'm glad there are still people out there that appreciate the beauty of a physical quality book.

You should have quietly dubbed in "THIS is a knife" from Crocodile Dundee every time you used your knife. Faintly, in the background without comment. On a serious note, thank you for the video. It's a beautiful edition. I thought the inclusion of the leather label on the spine of the solander with your limitation number to be a nice touch. I went with the Morris Horace because it's going OOP as I write this, but this is a treasure. I hope you're still deriving pleasure from it.
