Liberty - American Fiddle Tune!

I was riding my bike around a park in town and I noticed a miniature Statue of Liberty! I had to play the tune Liberty in front of it! :D Liberty is a very popular old-time and bluegrass fiddle tune played in the United States and Canada. It's a great tune for contra dances, and it's tons of fun to play!
This is one of my favorite old-time fiddle tunes! It's really pretty to play slowly on the mandolin, too! There's something about it that sounds really fun and happy, yet still patriotic. I've heard all sorts of rumors about this tune from it being George Washington's favorite song, to Benjamin Franklin wanting it to be the National Anthem for the USA. I have no idea whether either of those things are true, or perhaps they were actually referring to a different "Liberty" tune, but I do believe this tune is really old! =)
I never knew how hard it was to match up two tracks of fast-paced harmonizing notes until I tried to align the parts for this tune.. If the alignment was even a tiny millisecond off, the whole thing sounded like gobbledegook by the second half! Hopefully it worked out! ^_^

OH MY GOODNESS. I just got socked with the old DOUBLE WAMMY on that one. Two fiddles at one time. One for each of my ears. Absolutely beautiful playing. Such joyful music. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH.

I did a KZfaq search for "Liberty fiddle tune" and found several versions, but none...NONE... came close to being as sharp, clean and crisp as your version. 👍👍👍

Dear Lord, it looks like fun when you do it. I've been trying to play the fiddle for almost two months, and after twenty minutes, I'm cramping and sweaty. I guess I should give up, but I really want to do what you do.

Please don't give up. It takes at least a year to get even a little bit nice on fiddle, and maybe a couple before you can play along with others. It just takes time, patience and regular daily practice. You will get there if you stick at it.

Simon Watson I was just kidding. It is frustrating how slow progress seems, but occasionally, I'll have a really good practice and I think I'm actually getting better. Overall, it's been a lot of fun, even I only play alone in my closet for now. ;-)

its true took me a year to not scare myself with the noise i made 3 years after i played a few bars for fun , stopped for a bit came back to it and now im better then i had been, been the best 10 year relationship iv had lol

I was amazed that the mandolin is the same fingering as the fiddle; so I bought one. Instead of bowing, the picking is used. Who knew? BLUE DAVE.

@@alangiolma4278 I was referring to when I had started fiddle when I was in 3rd grade. I am now 67 and also play a mean cello ( same fingering with lower "C". Believe it or not, unless one plays blue grass or country, some violinists know nothing about mandolin. Had an argument with guitarist who wanted to tune mandolin like a guitar. My mandolin has a pick up.

So that was not your twin sister I take it! Very good job, I play the fiddle as well and it sounds really good to me, your intonation is very good if not spot on, of course there are software programs for that, yet it sounds real to my ears... I like the blend of unison and harmony parts, very nice. Also appreciate your posting the software you used to create the video and that sort of thing. Very inspiring to me, makes me want to go get the fiddle and play along!

Very nice playing, but the only American thing about this tune is the name. It's an old Irish tune, the 'Tipsy Parson', which got renamed when it crossed the Atlantic.

I make my backing tracks on my computer using virtual instrument sample libraries and an electric piano's MIDI output. I list the libraries and plugins I use in the description box of all my videos. ^_^
