Battle of Cagliari Le Républicain Provence, Marseille MCMXVIII, 22 February 1918 The Tricolore class Croiseur Léger Forbin from the Nice Station navale in Alpes-Maritimes was sweeping the gap between Sardinia and Tunisia when she found the Calatafimi class Incrociatore protetto Agordat. Refitted in 1912, she had a knot more speed at 24.5 and thicker through not better armor. Forbin spotted funnel smoke of one ship to the south-east and closed to identify the ship. Forbin sighted the Italian Incrociatore and was able to open fire first. Agordat made smoke and closed on Forbin under it. Forbin turned her port broadside on Agordat and began to fire at the silhouette in the smoke. As Agordat closed for her torpedo strike coming up on Forbin’s port quarter Forbin launched four 480mm torpedoes first. Agordat simply outran them, with the torpedoes passing astern, but as Argodat turned to launch her own torpedoes Forbin was able to hit her three times with 155mm shells that went through her fore and main belts. Argodat began to flood aft and amidships but was able to launch her starboard topedo. Forbin edged out of its path as the flooding took Argodat and she sank with 380 of her 392 man crew. Forbin had taken 11 casualties and picked up the 12 Regia Marina sailors out of the Med.

Battle of Santa Marta Le Républicain Provence, Marseille MCMXVIII, 12 February 1918 The Porcupine class Croiseur Cuirassés Fulminant from the Puerto Cabello Station navale in Venezuela was joined by two Royal Serbian Navy Hova class Destroyers torpilleur, the Janissaire and Mécanicien Principal Lestin on a training and doctrine exchange mission when war broke out with the United States. The two Serbian ships stayed in the Caribbean operating with the Fulminant and learning commerce raiding. They found a convoy of four Robert K. Huntington class 11 thousand ton 74 manned armed Navires de transport moving towards Santa Marta and the American forces regrouping after the Columbia campaign, escorted by the Indianapolis protected cruiser USS Duluth. Fulminant sighted the Duluth well to her west, and realizing that any transports the protected cruiser were escorting would soon be in Santa Marta, ordered the Serbian Destroyers torpilleur, with Mécanicien Principal Lestin in the lead, to close on the convoy as she made her best time to catch up and engage Duluth. Duluth targeted Mécanicien Principal Lestin as she skirted around the American warship to get to the Navires de transport. Mécanicien Principal Lestin and Janissaire both launched 480mm torpedoes at Duluth in crossing spreads. Duluth turned to slip the gap of Mécanicien Principal Lestin’s torpedoes just to be caught by one from Janissaire. It hit Duluth’s main belt with a very satisfying explosion and Duluth soon sank with 716 of her 852 man crew. With their job well done Mécanicien Principal Lestin and Janissaire pulled away to reload their torpedo tubes. Fulminant closed on the convoy and began shelling. Jonas Ingram surrendered with 30 men lost, S. P. Lee sank with 63 men lost, Reid sank with 33 men lost, and the convoy leader Robert K. Huntington sank with 73 of her 74 man crew.
