As a new subscriber I was drawn to your home as it is so much like mine. Filled with family heirlooms , music and memories. Old world in style and comfort. I felt immediately at home and look forward to each video. Yes some dark academia could be your style but definitely on the lighter side. Mostly books and that library feel. These cookie cutter homes today are boring and all look alike. White and grey, distressed grungy furnishings, shiplap and buffalo checks. Definitely not warm and cozy. Of course that is only in my opinion. So your home speaks to me. And it says to come in and get comfy! That to me says HOME. Love from Michigan

It's my style and I call it my smart witch cottage decor. Books, books and more books, cats, tea, tweed, darker colors, rugs, a lot of wood, collections of oddities, gold is my choice of metal, etc.

Love your videos. Love that you are not following trends, but are original, unique and amalgamating what you have and find for a home that is you. You have a beautiful home.

With the white-washed shelves, yellow with white trim, and shell on the desktop, I’d say Beach Academia. After finishing its studies, Dark Academia packed up its favourite things and headed to the shore. It picked a bright and cozy room and filled it, eager to partake in less intense study and relaxing fresh air.

I call it eclectic, a mix of styles and items you love and enjoy. I buy what I love no matter the style. Vintage, thrifted, new, gifted. If you love it it’ll always work.

I am willing to build my own studio fulfilled with things that resonate to me. I got at least 80 objects already (yes I'm making my own inventory too cause I'd love to remember each thing) and most of them bought if the budget comes properly. Still newer things will come, also with money but I think half of my properties will pass from my parents to me, such detail can't be forsaken. But yeah I think belongings of whatever kind complete you in every aspect like a nutritious entity. They instill you knowledge, aesthetics, comfort, enjoyment, well it's what a house was made for.

The word "Dark" does not enter my mind when I look at your library....Interesting, and Comfortable are the first words that comes to my mind, oh...and Beautiful too!!

Dark academia for the win!! Kudos to you for hanging onto these family treasures 👌. I was sadly swayed by others to get rid of some of the old stuff l had after my parents passed. It’s on me that l didn’t preserve the few pieces l did have. This style speaks to me too and l have an alcove l will try this look in. I did keep a few things and l will bring them out and put them on display😊

When I first heard of D A ,I thought I’ve got that style ,I’ve just sorted out our home office made it into a library/art gallery ,I made a reading nook next to the bookshelves ,put some of my black n white paintings on the walls,I only spent $3 on 2 small cardboard chests of drawers and a cubby to corall some of my sewing stuff ,I covered them with a vintage curtain I had , stacked them on a card table ,put some chalkboard labels on the drawers ,they look really good ,I have a rock collection that I’d love to have a curiosity cupboard for Yes carry on ,I love your videos ,

I think you're on the right track but perhaps less dark. I think you need a collection of skulls and preserved vulture eggs in their nest, some taxidermy and preserved body parts to be full on dark academia. I could be mistaken. 💀 Whatever you might call it, it's certainly well collected, warm, inviting and charming.

Yes, I like the ideals for future videos. One thing I always look for is framed specimen of the life cycle of the pearl mollusk and other curiosities. I had to sprinkle books in every room in the apartment since I do not have your wonderful library room. So, living room is art books, reference and classic literature, guest bedroom has children's books and so forth (so far only the bathroom has been spared - no space except in the tub and I kinda need that). This was fun! The magic of books and knowledge!

I think the word "academia" definitely applies to you because you are so learned, and because you are clearly accomplished in many fields of study and have many interests. (I dare say many who take on the "dark academia" look aren't inclined to actually read the books with which they decorate, and possibly purchase their "heirlooms!") But I don't see darkness, and for me that's a good thing. I'm not a big fan of lots of the very heavy, deeply carved, dark wood panelling or furniture that evokes the university library or an old church.

You're right: Academia fits it perfectly! Dark? Possibly not. In any case, it is the home of a learned couple.

I think of your library as more traditional-academia and in keeping with your overall warm and lovely home. To me, dark academia evokes very dark rooms, poor lighting, full of skulls, dragons statues, etc. It’s a bit dark and creepy to me. The only thing academic about it to me would be the books. Your library is a light filled haven full of books and family memories. My sister has somewhere in the range of 5-6,000 books and they’re in light filled rooms where you can actually read the books you pull out. I would have a difficult time actually reading in a dark academia library room.

I love your room - but where's the DARK? A short version of my story. I was always a fan of the old-style English Estate library look, but on a very low budget I was never able to get there. I figured my style was just "traditional" which in today's attitude is considered "boring" and "old fashioned." Spiral forward like 30 years later plus and the internet arrived and then KZfaq and then all the wonderful videos of what people were doing with their rooms. I started seeing things that were, to me, mind blowing, and then - possibly achievable even without sponsorship and free furniture by a sponsor. When the black walls, and then the "dark and moody" rooms started showing up, I was intrigued. Finally, after at least 2-3 years of looking at KZfaq videos and seeing dark/moody rooms and/or black "accent" walls showing up in HGTV Magazine, etc., I took the plunge and near the end of November 2022 I painted a wall in my living room a black shade (Limousine Leather by Behr). It totally transformed the room and suddenly my collections of hundreds of books, horse statuary, glass and ceramic eggs, and my pink elephants (started with a WWII pink elephant I inherited from my paternal grandmother), all mixed in with my attraction to dark woodwork and dark wood furniture and black/white/cream/red decor with plenty of botanical and bird prints made sense. Maybe I'm "Dark Academia," complete with wing chairs flanking my gel fuel fireplace. I love your channel.
