'Straight from the horse's mouth', as they say. Edward Ruppelt was the first head of the U.S. Air Force's Project Blue Book, the official project initiated to investigate UFO reports beginning in 1952. This report from 1956 takes us inside these initial investigations, separates fact from fiction, and gives insight into who, when, where, and how sightings were reported and researched in open-minded fashion (for which Ruppelt was renowned), rather than in the typical hushed and secretive (and censored) manner most often associated with government and military reports which are released to the public.Dozens of specific sightings are recounted, although hundreds more had come pouring into the agency during the period covered (and hundreds, if not thousands more that were never officially reported). Here we go inside the workings of Project Blue Book, which had evolved from 2 earlier Air Force projects, and we are witness to interviews, press conferences, Pentagon briefings, and many reports from civilian and military pilots, Air Traffic Controllers, office workers, farmers, and the man on the street who reported their accounts with UFOs. And not all sightings that were reported were restricted to the U.S.Although Project Blue Book would continue until 1969, here we witness an in-depth account from it's inception and it's earliest stages, the political obstacles, the houndings from the press, the overall confusion encountered during and following many of the sightings, and the near hysteria caused during the heyday of UFO sightings, and all from the man who headed up the project in it's earliest years. The second edition of Ruppelt's work was supplemented with 3 additional chapters which were added in 1960, and we are fortunate that they are included here. (Summary by Roger Melin)

Wow! What a change of attitude and no explanation.

Hynek who Ruppelt quotes as dissing UFO's of course completely later changed his mind about the reality of the phenomena, and famously admitted they were real in his revised opinion!

Real weird sudden turn around at the end. A hurried repudiation which if sincere should have gone into detail. Obviously following orders and it seems he wanted to let us know.

I like the fact his disproof is you never see them on satellite imagery or from spacecraft. But in 2021 we know there have been many unexplained sightings in the NASA programs and the latest June report to congress confirms that some of the UAP sightings by pilots have been seen from real time satellite imagery. Great book but the last chapter is a joke..

@@FreeSpeechXtremist One of the best photos is of a silver disk taken, if I remember correctly, by a robot mapping camera snapping photos at intervals while aboard a plane flying over the jungle. The image is not explainable as a film defect, developing defect, any kind of lens flare or artifact, and the fact that it was taken by an intervalometer, not a human photographer, neutralizes the likelihood of fraud. I'm not saying it's an alien spaceship, but it is a genuine UFO, and we should study these things carefully. There may not be as much to them as we think... or maybe more.

Ruppelt switched sides more than Benedict Arnold. More than Warwick in the war of the roses! I guess you can’t get far in post-service contract work without jumping on the bandwagon. I wonder what went down in the years between his first edition and the epilogue.

Disappointing ending, i.e. "they don't exist!"

What a disappointing, and essentially dishonest, conclusion to what had seemed a report very supportive of the un-natural origins of the UFO! After listing several visual/radar observations made at military bases, and the world-wide occurrence of the UOFO phenomena, Ruppelt had to resort to the emotional tools of ridicule, character assignation and guilt by association. Yes, the "contactees" were all bunko, we now know that the vast majority of so-called "experiencers" don't have friendly chats with the Grays or the Mantis Beings who abduct them. But what is going on, who or what is doing it and how remain as big a mystery as they did back in 1947! This makes me wonder if claims of genetic manipulation by alien races are true, and they have spliced into our genome a gene which makes us ignore them, even as they go about their inscrutable work among us?

The world record holder fastest plane was the United States blackbird maximum speed 3500 km/h hold that speed for just under 10 minutes Due to surface temperature she friction of air in earths atmosphere normal cruising speed was 1300 km/h The worlds fastest miss soul travels at 3700 km/h in earths atmosphere it was created to target the blackbird there is no material on the chart of elements that could support for any amount of time 15,000 km/h plus in earths atmosphere . 15,000 km/h in earths atmosphere would create a temperature of 6000° plus which would then put it in the realm of plasma which is the same temperature and material that the stars and our SUN are made of and the space shuttle upon re-entry into earths atmosphere needed a protective layer of acrylic tiles to Support safe re-entry to earths atmosphere Expensive and time-consuming One time use. There is no known material that could with stand that type of heat letter known this she acrobatics of these vehicles travelling at 15,000 km/h in earths atmosphere and doing a 90° angle right hand turn while not stopping or losing any momentum or speed within earths gravitational wake or magnetic field would kill any living beam neither have been any control surfaces neither and exhaust of any shape or form while hovering silently as well as avoiding radar and infrared light which is the longest wave length of light info read as well as travelling through any medium water and space as well as earths magnetic field. 0) let’s logically breakdown the problem . 1) travelling at 15,000 km/h plus in earths atmosphere . 2)With standing the friction of earths atmosphere at those speeds materials . 3)Travelling through different mediums earths atmosphere/water/space without losing speed/mobility . 4)No control surfaces /windows/propulsion/exhaust/landing gear/headlights . 5)Can avoid radar/infrared/heat vision . 6) can avoid earths gravitational wake magnetic field . 7) must have some form of protective Force field/Shield . 8) can do amazing acrobatics at blistering speeds . 9) can hover like a helicopter . 10) Manoeuver hover at blistering speeds silent with no sound whatsoever . 11)Can break the sound barrier with no sonic boom . 12) through Interstella space without refuelling the sheer distance indicates A non-exhaustible fuel or a regularly easy material to refuel or an abundance of this material or a Science that we are yet to understand or achieve. Released footage of a UFO/UAP from a ship showing in infrared a ship hovering above the water miss identified as entering the water on the footage you can hear them say splash splash just before that you see the vehicle appear and disappear if you slow down the footage on KZfaq in high resolution you can see the vehicle clearly disappears then re-appears to only disappear again you can clearly see the vehicle at great speed diagonally right heading upwards away from the water quickly outside the field of view confusing The commentators saying that it went into the water first thing you need to know the footage is recorded in infrared nightvision mode it works like you seen the movies but it is in black-and-white for more clarity when you see nightvision goggles showing yellow and red spots of warm bodies take away the red and yellow spots and supply black and white that is nightvision infrared infrared is the longest wavelength of light meaning it is a longer wave Lancs taking longer to register on any device it is the longest and slowest moving light much in the same way when deep sea diver is going to the water the first visual colour loss as you get deeper into the water is the red spectrum the vehicle clearly can somehow Block that wavelength as well as radar . 0)let’s break down the problem . 1) clearly the vehicles dimensions have some what to do with the propulsion system it self . 2)These vehicles are not interstellar vehicles for comfort they are a reconnaissance vehicle built for short distance travel Like a military aeroplane Hangar boat . 3)They must have some form of bass all home somewhere close . 4) The look and make of the vehicles somewhat change but resemble one another indicating that they are from the same or collective . 5) via not having windows or control surfaces indicate to the mechanical or propulsion system . 6) they are somewhat curious or intrigues by military radar . 7) they seem somewhat friendly for long duration of time they have been observed As far back as cavemen art in caves indicating that they have been here for a very long time never hostile . 8) they are somewhat observers . 9) if they are the common belief of grey aliens the physical curries indicate to their home planet . 10) large forward facing dark eyes indicate to a somewhat dark home planet . 11) eyes facing forward on there heads indicate that they were a primitive species much like humans then become a predators have forward facing eyes to judge accurately distance much like all predators from Eagles to Tigers . 12) A dark Homewoods they may see more wavelengths of light indicating that they may see magnetic fields and more wavelengths of light Much like snakes can see infrared heat signatures . 13)Shorts with a large dome head indicate lower levels of visitation or a tree Dwele at high altitude . 14) A small mouth indicates that they may be vegetarians . 14) small nose and ears is indicates heavy rain or precipitation or wind speed on the Homeworld . 15) Long arms and long fingers indicate a tree Dwele their arm Exceed past there knees much like monkeys and all primates minus humans . 16) they may live close to a dwarf star that would provide I stable but somewhat dark Homeworld providing a long duration of life on the planet dwarf stars can exist for thousands Times longer than our current Star the sun . 17)They may have evolved on the planet and have extremely long life spans compared to humans or any species on Mother Earth 18) Earth being so close to its host star is the timekeeper for our current lifespans through D&A decoration over time degrading owl Gino causing natural death . 19)Living close to brown the wharf at a safe distance there would be no D&a decoration.

Sigh. You listen but you do not hear. (and just to be clear, I'd love it if we really had something....but we don't) 1) We live on a third-rate planet orbiting a third-rate star in a small sub-arm (the Orion Spur) halfway in the middle of a granted superb grand spiral galaxy. We ain't nothing to write home about. I Love Lucy is only 60 light-years out - not much in the way of our type planet within that sphere, and we've only been radio star quality for about 20 light years past that. Otherwise we're fairly non-descript. 2) Is there life out there? Oh yeah, Jerry, if there are less than a million planets in the galaxy not covered in microbial mats I'd be shocked. Photosynthesis is relatively easy as that sort of thing goes. Multi-cellular life, oh yes, hundreds of thousands. Where the Fermi "paradox" breaks down hinges on the word "intelligent life". Are there sentient (another word carrying a lot of weight) beings, alive at "this time" (our time? their time? Ol' Albert makes that problematic for anything short of FTL drive - which I also believe is quite possible)? I'd say more probably that not. But now it gets down to the nut-cutting: Are there creatures with *our* kind of intelligence out there? We're talking apes here people, and that takes a lot of particular bad days, the latest being that bad day 65 million years ago - without that one we'd still be scurrying around between dinosaur toes. Extremely unlikely. 3) If there is such an intelligence, and if they have FTL drives, why bother with us? If there are probes (and no, nobody is coming to visit in person at this point), don't you think they could stealth such high technology better than this? Please. An intergalactic civilization that didn't kill itself long enough to be curious about us will have something along Prime Directive lines. No, in this case I agree with Major Ruppellt, human perceptual systems are not rigged to put extraordinary phenomena in context (the old, and yet correct, chestnut about 'ten people witness a traffic accident is true - people see *what they expect to see*, what their particular perceptual filters allow). We're going to have to do a bit more growing up, and assuming we make it, then maybe we can get a piece of the action. Right now though, please, we only had radio for 100 years plus change, and we're in the process of getting away from that - we'll probably stop being radio-star emission levels within 50 years. As Neil Tyson notes, thinking we're all that is hubris. Not too long ago on galactic timescales everyone was confident we were the center of the universe.

You neglect the possibility that an alien race may have had a longstanding interest in shaping or guiding our burgeoning intelligence. This is one of those things I would like to ask the dolphins about;' if they have some way of keeping history, records of some kind of significant events, they have about 12 million years of it, compared to our 2.whatever. We steadfastly refuse to acknowledge the intelligence of their many species, according them second-rank status; but how many of you reading this, no matter how smart you are or think you are, if I stripped you naked (or maybe a wet suit) and dropped you in the ocean 10 miles (16 km) from land, would survive long enough to make it to shore? I say that under these circumstances, where the dolphin scores at the top, the human is not only stupid, but fatally badly designed.
