Lidl £1.50 " WASTE NOT" fruit and Veg box

I had heard about these boxes online and was so happy to find my local Lidl had some. For £1.50 a box I thought it was fantastic value and great to save food that would otherwise be chucked. Just asked one of the assistants. Our Lidl had them out the back so do ask.
All of the produce we got it ok to eat,no rotten bits! It's just items that is past its sell by date but lots was just fruit that had come out of a packet so perfect but they are unable to sell separately.
I will definitely be doing this again

Our local morrisons does the no waste boxes, such a great idea. Looks like you've got some great goodies in yours.

You can make banana bread, banana icecream(Bice cream ) freeze them and unthaw them and use them as a all-natural sweetener to all kinds of baking,desserts,and breads aswell. And also make banana lollies plan or covered in chocolate or sprinkles, or a peanut butter sauce. After there frozen and thawed they turn back to the liquid sugary syrup .

@@FamilyFourExplore you just add frozen bannas and anything you would like .use frozen bananas. Lily's chocolate chips,almonds,or peanut or cashew butter yummy.

You can't choose what you get, as in - it's the whole box as a 'package' - but you can choose which box.

It makes me feel sad that this food would otherwise have been destined for landfill 🥺 Theres absolutely nothing wrong with any of that fruit or veg, in fact most of it is in its prime eating time 😋 With regards to the bananas, we love an ‘Elvis’ in our house…..just slice the banana in half (Lengthways) Fill with 100% Peanut Butter, Sandwich back together and devour 🤤 Absolutely delicious, give it a try 🥰 x

Exactly Serena. Also if people don't know to ask about these boxes they will just sit out the back and then be binned. You think of people who can't afford to buy fresh fruit or veg for their children. We are such a throwaway society. Every piece of produce in our boxes was great,all edible and its just because they have come loose from a bag. It can only he sold if its a neat packages. They should bag it all up and put it on the shop floor. People would buy it then! Ooh thanks for the tip,will give Elvis a go!!!! How's the weather down there? Been a bit I predictable here!!! X

@@FamilyFourExplore I think we need to get out of this ‘perfect’ society, it doesn’t sit comfortably with me 🥺 We are pretty much a zero food waste family, I meal plan and use EVERYTHING I buy, never buy over or ‘just in case’ items 🤪You’ll have to let fellow vegans know about the Elvis as people always seem to have excess bananas which they have no idea what to do with 🤣 Our Weather has been WIERD, yesterday our road was flooded due to heavy rain, today it’s bright and sunny 🙄 So unpredictable 😆 x

@@serenaclairewilliams Yes I hate to waste stuff. Get to ene of week and everything that's left makes up a thrown together meal. I got so much veg and stuff this weeks so going to have to make a few meals to pop in freezer. I need to start a bit of batch cooking soon so trying to organise what I am going to make. Will definitely do share rhe Elvis idea,maybe as a reek on Instagram. Why the name?? Xx

@@FamilyFourExplore I LOVE Batch Cooking! Only Wish I had a bigger freezer 😫 Elvis Priestly’s Favourite Sandwich was PB and Banana so I think it just kind of stuck 🤪 x

@@serenaclairewilliams I am going to start getting Into batch cooking. What would you use to store in freezer? Tupperware kind of boxes? My freezer isn't big either! That's an interesting fact to know about Elvis!!!! Always good incase I ever go to a pub Quiz and they ask that! Xxx

Have you tried the ‘Too Good to Go’ app. Shops fill a bag with food that would be wasted - depending where you go, you might get bakery, ready meals, fruit and veg, etc.

Have seen the boxes when i once went in didnt know what they were ..great value ..im not a fan of lidls..prefer aldi ..altho i will take a look when i move .

I know what you mean. I avoided Lidl all this time and love Aldi bit was pleasantly surprised.

Yes you might get the odd piece going over but in general all was good Thank god. 😊

Do you have to go to Lidl at opening time to get these?

I went about 11ish I think. Suppose its first come first served. They had three. Some stores might have lots, other stores none so maybe go at in the morning and if they have none ask when would he thr best time to come next time. That way if its a store that can't be bothered to make them up(and chuck the stuff) then they will know you will be coming back to check!!! Good luck. Let me know how you get on xxx

Fruit in the UK is disgusting, it never ripens its tasteless. I miss sweet juicy fruit like we get in South Africa.

People turn down fruit and veg that doesn't look perfect. Just because a carrot may look like an old mans you know what, it shouldn't be wasted, it still tastes the same.

My wife just bought this lot, a Lidl vegi box for £1.50 the lot. 14 different items of fruit/veg. Don't tell me the poor can't afford to eat?

Exactly!! You get lots don't you! Can make stews,soups,all healthy!! Need to go back and get one soon!!!! Have you tried them from other supermarkets?
