Literally, everyone is concentrated/interested in exploring signs of lying but no one ever discus the body language or the linguistics of the honest person. I am more interested about trades of an honest person then the opposite. How they behave, speak or exhibit the truth. Confirming that the person is truthful can invalidate the need to search for the deception or lie.

This is good because often i think we just feel that people are lying and we are probably reading the signs quite well without sabotaging our own intuition. But when your consciously trying to do its difficult. But setting a base line then seeing what deviates from it - is great advice.

Excellent content in this sample of one of the DPG plc seminars. One of the things I like most about it is the presenters repeated cautions that there can be causes other than lying for the micro expressions, body language, etc., that we observe. I have read that FBI agents are warned in their training that it is exceptionally difficult to determine if someone is lying, a con artist, or a psychopath. Even agents with years of experience in the field can get the wool pulled over their eyes.

Even the inventor of the polygraph was pissed with the way cops use it as fact. He even said it was junk. They don't actually work all you have to do is stay calm the whole time or cause a slight increase in heart rate during the baseline question. Such as pinching your thigh or curly your toes for the pain. It's not hard or think of an event like sex to get your heart rate up for the baseline so it's high for the lie while not harming yourself and for all truths self harm.

You are so right about sociopaths being high functioning and in powerful occupational positions it makes me ponder who you work for yourself. Thanks for the prompt WM... this seems to be the general theory within the NLP world for right handed people - according to the texts. There is opinion that this is reversed for those who are left handed. What this edited extract misses is our emphasis is centred around individual differences - it is crucial to establish baseline for each individual with any lie detection and then note changes from that baseline. There is research on the ekmaninternational site on this baseline concept too.

I would love to just pay an expert in deception to sit with me for 30 minutes and tell me how good of a liar I am. Just have him listen as I tell stories about things I have done in my life with subtle twists or changes, maybe even pay a police officer to be in the room to increase stress. I feel like a situation like this would be fascinating and I would find out I'm nowhere near as good at lying as I thought

Reading people is fun, but correct or not if it comes to crime... 12 people decide. I said Bullock's.. but is it true, who else agrees.. we Know though yeah ? Yep.

Very interesting stuff. The potential problem, as I see it, with using the direction that the eyes are looking is that sometimes we think or calculate because we're having trouble remembering. For example: If I'm asked where I was last Wednesday evening, I may "remember" by thinking, "Well, I must have been home because that's the night that my wife takes the car to go to a class."

While a good deal of solid knowlegde on psychanalisis, or psychology in general are enough to shed some light on what a "psychopath" really is, the romanticization of psychopathy, can be explained by a combination of numerous factors such as: - The idea of a "Human Nature" in Anglo-Saxon culture. - Fear and general mistrust in an society which is rapidly changing through Wars, Financial Crisis and Poverty and ever more competitive - Lack of solid knowlegde in the general population.

good stuff. some liars when you confront them also try to intimidate by trying to look you down or inducing guilt. or they make veiled threats totally out of context.it depends on one's own reaction to it. you cud show weakness to provoke it. if you don't they tend to avoid eye contact but thats commonly known ;)

I watched numerous vids on all this truth lie stuff. I have one very simple question: Why not just tell the truth ... all the time? Why do people lie? To hide their ego state of being bad, wrong, mistaken, guilty, incompetent, thieving, naughty, deceitful, dishonest, criminal, etc, from others. To me that's stupid. Just take full responsibility for, be honest about, everything you think, say, and do, and admit it to anyone who asks.

Remember we aren't talkin about a psychopath, we are talking about sociopaths. To them, becuase of how their emotions are built to function (and how that happens is a whole other convo) there is no sense of "compromising." Their impulses are different too; it is their impulse to act without consideration for others emotions.

A "psychopath" would cause more harm to himself than to others. For instance, I'd like to recall "Unable to learn from past experiences" as one of the given traits of a supposed "psychopath". A "psychopathic" individual would keep for example, spending his monthly wages and being kicked out because he couldn't pay the bills. He would keep doing so, over and over, not learning that spending all his wages will land him on the streets..

@jvs101 Psychopathic individuals, in general, can be quite obvious. Sociopaths are a small percent of people that can fine tune motor expressions and maintain a functioning life in the fold, often thriving. They have the ability to move upwards quickly and fool even the toughest of interrogators. Sociopaths often have an acute ability to control groups of people through learned charisma. At this moment, chances are, you are subject to a sociopath on some level.

The questions I stated above would still apply to Sociopaths. If there's no sense of "compromising" then a Sociopath wouldn't make a good CEO, since he'd be lacking the essential qualities mentioned above. Likewise the best of CEO's would be lacking the essential criterea to be classified as a psychopath... Therefore I find it again, very difficult for a sociopath (of a psycho. for that matter) to achieve such the position of a CEO. ( Or any other high position in society [BY MERIT])

There is no such thing as a sociopath. In order to thrive in society, to achieve high-ranking positions you have to be able to effectively work in a social universe (which a sociopath is not able to) that means, you have to effectively provide results on the long run and generally bring the group forward. Of course deceit and lies might work in the short run, but they will never get you a top position in society, one that requires years of cooperation and leadership.

90%. Highly trained people can pick up 90%. That means that for every ten people, the highly trained will still read one person wrong. We are kind of crap at this.. Also.. the NLP map isn't the same for everyone.. people don't think the same way. Some people when remembering will remember the sound, some are more visual, etc. People process things differently. You need a good baseline to see things that aren't average for a certain person...

Since awareness id numbed down to the nullpoint, there is a great void inside, where information is needed, so here comes the great division of nature and human mind, you can think anything you want, the truth doesn't care, truth doesn't change how hard you try. Religion is just filling the void. Awareness is understanding that the void is perfect, thus it doesn't need any filling, and it never can be filled. You can't prove that religion is right nor wrong, thus making the religion a voidfiller

The fact that facts are unfalsifiable doesn't give support to your argument. It simply undermines the entire concept of logic, rendering all arguments invalid... including your own. It stems from the fact that a system can't prove itself. That certainly allows faith to enter the picture, but it doesn't 'trap' anyone. The floor falls from under *both* of us. Besides, atheism in its literal sense is a lack of belief [in God] - so let's be honest, we never had the burden of proof to begin with.

Usually it's on science fiction they believe. But some atheists are so skeptical of anything other than their arguments, that they say that certainty is impossible. For sci-fi-loving atheists, I ask them if a theory has to be falsifiable or not. That's one example of a trap question. For extreme skeptics, I ask them if logic is certainly reliable or not. There's more questions, of course. But these are basic.

Hello again, I meant, that sociopaths ( or psycopaths for that matter) as social-predators ruling the world, and consciously out there to get you, is a very wrong and damaging idea. "Sociopathy" is nothing less than "pathos", suffering, "sociopathy" applies to people incapable of cooperating in society. Sociopathics are mentally disabled people, and as such, more damaging to themselves than to others. Cunning, charming, and manipulative sociopaths is just a "romanticization" of this disease.
