I drove an Atlas 1402 in 1977, it was one of the few hydrualic excavators available on the market at the time. With joystick controls it was way ahead of its time. Katos were about the only other hydrualic ecavator available.

double benching, sometimes called split benching. Sitting on one bench and digging dirt in front of the digger. The double bench can sometimes be very high. It has the advantage of not needing to lift the dirt all the way from the ground so it can be faster than single (normal) benching. However if the setup is not right (Small double bench) it can slow the digger down with constantly moving forward. There are plenty of vids here on you tube showing double benching.

when digging ore a good full bucket can weigh anything from 70 to 100 tons.That all depends on the density of the material(fine or lumpy) ;)

My son operated one of these in an open cut copper mine in Australia. At 680 tonnes is is one big digger. 40 cubic metre bucket.

I know this question is years late but, what happens to the rock or stone at a gold mine, do they sale it off to another customer or do they crush it and make gravel or road base material?

If cab is on right on 996, it is just because first customer asked for it.
