Compared to the ships I had to crew when I was in during Vietnam this thing looks like you're staying at the Ritz-Carlton hotel. GO NAVY! I am glad for the crew that they have such great facilities because when things get a little dicey at sea this will be one hell of a morale booster.

Floor plan was downright spacious and luxurious compared to the old destroyers.

Watching this and I'm seeing a lot of changes since I was in the Navy. I boarded my first ship in 1987 and we never had some of these things you see on this ship.

The ship is at the Bath Iron Works on the Kennebec River in Maine. BIW is one of the Navy's premiere ship builders. During the Second World War it built 25% of the destroyers in the Navy; at one point sending a newly built, fully armed and crewed ship down the Kennebec directly to war every two weeks.

Wow! A lot of the features on this ship we didn't have on previous ships I've served aboard in my Navy career. Are future, up coming ships will have some of these features? But, I do criticize minimal manning in certain times.

This vessel could and must be improved, adding more vls, or rail Guns, and replacin the spy3 radar by new spy6

Captain Zumwalt was the Captain of USS Dewey, DLG 14 while we were on the Cuban Missile Crises. Scary time.

The 2 most powerful destroyers in the world, USS Zumwalt(US) and Type 055(CN) are both so impressive and beautiful. I prefer the sleek design of the Zumwalt though. :D

Supposed to be the first in a line of ships, yet only two have been made and they are configured completely different. Warship seems to be really pushing it when referring to this ship and its sister ship. Correct me if I'm wrong.

One image sort of says it all for me... An old-fashioned actually-rotating barber pole! Not just a painted sign which could be lit up by a floodlight, which would make more sense in conserving energy. But this ship needs not to conserve; it has energy to spare! Wow!

I had many degrees and properly and selection of materials it definitely made mistakes but it could correct it relatively easy

What always amazed me was the size of the bridge. I spend month and months aboard the “Serpentina” tanker moored off of Equatorial Guinea and Nigeria.

Why have sailors wear camouflage? Is it to ensure they will never be found if they fall overboard? Or is it in case the ship is boarded, so they can blend in with the floor and retake the ship by way of crawling from room to room and shooting the boarders?

Looks like you can't go outside or on deck -- since there isn't really one. More like a spacious submarine, am I wrong? Someone please explain.

What would happen to all. Of this. Technology if this ship suffered severe battle damage? Is the crew large enough to both continue to fight a battle and also do damage control at the same time? What happens if they suffer a major engineering casualty and lose all electrical power? How can this ship escape the battlefield make repairs and either return to port for more extensive repairs or return to the battle? These are serious questions. As a old 1200 psi steam plant BT I know my ship could at least steam away if we lost electric power as all of our major pumps in engineering were steam driven such as fuel and lube oil, Fire pumps, Main circulating and condensate, Feed pumps, Forced draft blowers all steam driven and did not require electricity to run. We lost the entire electrical load forward of the mess decks on my first ship USS Dale CG-19 and we never slowed down steaming the forward plant with only battle lanterns and no ventilation in the pit it got hot as hell, But we were still doing 15 knots and answering all bells. This ship cannot possibly do this. It blows a fuse and its game over.

Why arent this clasified as cruisers? they are bigger than Ticos ..and seem more oriented to ground attack than other ships (hunting other ships is what defines the concept of destroyer)

I just noticed, watching that last sequence of the ship moving in slowly it resembles the old iron clad ships, as in the absolute old school ones with the angles and the lone stand out feature of the main superstructure bit. I hope the wikipedia page on these ships is wrong, cause over there its just a long list of congress complaining and cost cutting, apparently the 155mm guns dont even have ammo because "the bullets are too expensive"

The Zumwalt looks like the hull is upside down and then the deck is added later. But if that makes it a better fighting ship, great!

I'm sorry, but as USN HM ret and one that's taken the USCG Power Squadron course, I don't see this as a comfortable ride. Perhaps a majority of it is a deep hull?
