After so many comments and views on my Berklee videos, I thought it was time to talk about life after graduating - and what that looks like!

I loved this video! The thing I liked most is how you re-iterated YOUR OWN path. I've wanted to be a professional musician since I was 12 so I've had years of teachers and peers telling me what path I should take. Last year I went against everyone's advice and dropped out of the school I was recruited to and decided to take a gap year. I just found out about a month ago I got into Berklee and I am so excited to continue my education there.

It's actually really funny, I was looking at Berklee as a school for me to possibly go to about a year and a half ago, and now, 4 weeks into my freshman year, this comes up. I have absolutely NO IDEA what this school is like and what it has to offer, and I love that about it. Thank you for sharing what Berklee has done for you and where you are right now, it has surely helped me, and many others, guaranteed.

I must say Robert, seeing how you evolved from a good musician into a superb professional musician and performer, I have to tip my hat to Berklee. I recognize that they did not give you the talent. That, you already had. But they have provided you with skills that coupled with your innate belief in yourself, now carry you forward to greatness. And I am surely enjoying the show.

Thanks, Darrell. It was like being in a pressure cooker the whole time - I felt pushed at every corner, but it was so worth it.

It sounds like the golden age of the paths of the old world rock guitar stars is over. All these guitar heroes who went to GIT or Berklee in the 80s are still touring . And it's too hard for new talent to take over. Even Satchel "Russ Parrish" GIT student is out there. My dad checked out the Nashville scene and said you have to pay to play in bars. It's overcrowded. Just write good songs. It's why acts like Tears for Fears can headline amphitheaters after 30 year gap.

Go get 'em! Just remember - they're not looking for you to be perfect at the audition, they want to see what they can work with - so relax, play your heart out, and let your abilities speak for themselves :)

TO EVERYONE- New York, Los Angeles, And Nashville are only the typical Musical places. If you spend your life branching out to do your own thing, and it's not in the popular approach on the technical side, the underdog approach (or starving artist) may sometimes work if you have help and resources. There are also 3 major UNDERDOG places that thrive: Las Vegas, New Jersey, and Seattle

Robert Gillies Would you agree? I know the chances in the places I listed are far lower, but they are not diverse. Traveling the same roads does not necessarily mean ending up in the same destination if you make different turns....isn't it easier to stand out in a place where things are less diverse and be recognized that you are clearly better for something else?

Anthony Spitery I know your ambitions and goals have changed and you have a good life and potentially a family (congrats btw :) ), but if one were to want to be more well known musically, wouldn't it be better to emerge from the bottom?

What was your major/minor? I basically want to do what you do: Write for myself and keep open to random opportunities and span a wide variety of skills to be, as you so eloquently put it, as useful as possible

I did some work for Canada Beef and wrote music for a plethora of their promo videos - and one of them ended up on the big screen at the Canadian Football League this summer! I don't have permission to post them yet, but when I do I'll share them!

Hi Robert. Ive been looking for colleges for the Music industry. I always wondered if Berkeley offered classes for Ableton, Logic, And Maschine productions. I've only heard about Berkeley offering non computerized music production. What classes do they offer for In the Home Studio productions?

Did you have to take out student loans / incur debt? I got a pretty decent scholarship, but I've got to take out financial aid to attend and I'm afraid of getting under a mountain of debt without necessarily any concrete job prospects.
