Hey Dr. Webb, what advice do you have for a surgery residency personal statement? I've heard all kinds of things from reusing a medical school personal statement (it worked once right?) to tips on making the personal statement an expanded form of your CV (1-2 sentences on a few items from every subject heading in your CV). I've even heard people say not to worry about it because no one reads them. What is your opinion?

When you say private practice makes a bit more than academics, is that before or after accounting for expenses e.g. hiring assistants and renting out a space

In general, private makes more even when taking OH, expenses into account

Does this mean that all the doctors that work in a hospital are academic doctors ? I am really confused about this... I guess my question is, after the residency, are academic vs private practice the only 2 options I have and I get to choose one, or can I choose neither and just work in a hospital being devoted to my patients ?

I’m in PA school but I’m interested in Academic Orthopedic surgery. Do you think it’s logical to go to Med school after PA school? Mine is just curiosity of the sciences, I don’t really care about time and money.
