I was a crew member on a number of what were called VLCC...(Very Large Crude Carriers) from the late sixties into the seventies... Unlike a few ship I sailed on before these ships were very well appointed for the crew, with single berth cabins, en-Suite bathroom/toilet a large mess and a bar Lounge for the crew ...the officers had separate accommodation. When at sea the ship was on auto-pilot, in river and docking a crew member steered the ship obeying directions from the pilot. There was no GPS so the ship was navigated by sextant using the noonday sun, stars. Radio beacons, lighthouses and Decca navigators if possible. The crew spent their time either on watch or daywork, maintenance etc! I sailed on five of this type of vessel, never less than six months.... I remember those days, some of the men and adventures I had 50 or so years ago...

All these petroleum based products are oxymoronic, because we are killing ourselves slowly at a quick pace. To maintain our modern lifestyle which is very archaic in term of what's REALLY AVAILABLE, but the 🌍 macro-economic system's will NEVER ALLOW us as societies 🌍 wide to get off the use of this shit. So like AL GORE mentioned 25 years ago when he was running against the most protected domestic terrorist of em ALL, said we as a planet got about 32 years from the day he made that comment to clean up our acts environmentally. NOW IN 2022 one can see, hear, and experience how fucked up the CLIMATE is 🌍🌎 WIDE.

...and the ship runs off-course, hits a Rock underwater and starts leaking millions of gallons of oil thereby destroying a valuable (productive even) ecosystem. Then the Parent Company which promised that community it would maintain a disaster response facility when they built their oil transfer station actually; NEVER maintained their response facility. That tiny sum was diverted to profits instead because the only thing that mattered to them was profit and more profit, all of the time. That's either preposterous, the true story of Exxon and the ExxonMobil Valdez or both preposterous AND true.
