Hey y'all, welcome to a few days in my life working full-time as a case manager in Washington DC. I assist the homeless population with obtaining housing. I wanted this vid to be informative & insightful for those looking to become a case manager or have a general interest in the human services/social work field. As you'll see, case management can become hectic and draining but it's rewarding. Please leave any questions or comments below! & I hope you'll subscribe (:
Verse of the day: Psalm 112:5
Good will come to him who is generous and lends freely, who conducts his affairs with justice.

Former RRH case manager and now the manager in Detroit. So interesting to see how you do things in DC! We are also experiencing a massive increase in rental prices. 😣 Good luck to you and your clients!!

RRH takes soooo much leg work. We're encouraging people to rent rooms/get roommates now because renting an apartment is unrealistic for so many of those we serve. Thank you, same to you and your team in Detroit!!!

@@firstnameischristina That’s a great strategy! We only work with young adults and they all want their own house. Not even an apartment but house. It’s hard to get them to understand the market and the realities.

@@MsSmashpants ah, got it. Everyone wants their own which is understandable but the reality is unparallel to their wants sometimes. It is difficult and burdensome to explain this to clients and get them to be on board. Since RRH is temporary, we want them to be self-sustaining upon exit from the program, but it seems clients often just want what they want. I'm not sure but it's a maze trying to navigate those conversations sometimes.

Hi! Loved the vlog & new subscriber!!! I just started on my MSW & really don’t know at this point what exactly I want to do once I graduate. What requirements do you need for a Case Manager?
@firstnameischristina
@firstnameischristina 2 жыл бұрын
Aw welcome, thank you so much! And congrats! 🎊 From what I've seen for entry level, it's usually a bachelor's. Higher level positions usually require some experience + bachelor's or a masters. But you shouldn't have any issues landing a job with an MSW! 😊

Also can you possibly make content on how you factor in self care or self maintenance as a case manager? Cause I know w how overwhelming the job can be we tend to compromise our own mental health.

Hello Chrissy! Any suggestions to keep up with case notes? What specific format do you use?
@firstnameischristina
@firstnameischristina Жыл бұрын
Hey Daisy! what's helped me is writing my case notes during or immediately after the interaction. Sometimes that's not always possible but generally speaking, I like to complete the case note promptly because otherwise, I may forget exactly what happened. I don't use a specific format now. I write the case note with enough details so that if someone who wasn't apart of the interaction reads it, they'd understand who was involved and exactly what happened. I hope this helps!

@@firstnameischristina and this is most definitely best practice!!!! I love your response to this. I write my notes thoroughly enough so I never get asked any additional questions and it never fails, unless folks didn’t bother reading the note to begin with 😂😂
