EPIC vide Raul. Had me worried at the beginning, speaking French hahaha Some of us English never learnt a second language. If the Agency plays those games, ask the company if they will pay you cash in hand ;) At Agency rate with no tax etc.. ;) or is there a full time job available . Tell the truth Raul ;) you do it because you are such a great guy, you know we would miss you and your videos. So do what you want to do, we are all behind you I am sure. In our trade, we got the union involved, as they made 805 redundant due to lack of work, yet they employ Agency to cover them, and we operate 24/7. That is not a lack of work, so to make them upset shall we say, we got union etc.. involved and now they get sick and holiday pay benefits as full timers. It backfiring a bit now due to covid, Where we would have 5 people working, we now have only two. So the extra they spend on Agency, they get back by us down manning. Looking forward to next one ;)

In the current company i say in our fleet manager, that i can take a new Renault T high model as the next tool. But he answered me: SUCH ARE NOT FOR US 😢. yes we are a scania house. but a small side step would do good 🤣

The Wife " have you been sacked again? " lol!!!!! Good summation Raul. Never worked Agency but opted for permanent casual a couple of times for the money and independence. Over time Managers, conditions, trucks etc change and always reserved the right to prescribe myself the DCM (Don't come Monday - or any other day). Wasn't aware Volvo were wholesaling their motors and gearboxes - don't see any benefit to them propping up the likes of Renault. The flapping 'tails' on the turnbuckles on your tautliner would annoy me no end in the mirrors haha! Much enjoyed - and the French was impressive.🙁

@@trucktasticsussex8183 Your right and I wasn't aware of that. We don't have Renault trucks in this country. Wikipedia state it was via the Renault Trucks purchase, from the parent company, that Volvo came into possession of Mack Trucks, both of which are built side by side here. Having operated both gotta say the Volvo is my strong preference. Thanks for the clarification.

Agree with the agency vs employee thing. Works for some, not for others. Personally, I have a full-time office job Mon-Fri, so only do trucking on weekends. I work through an agency, even though I'm only working for a single company. My contract is such that the agency isn't required to offer me any hours, and I'm not obliged to accept anything they offer. Back when I was doing weekend work the first time (pre-2008) it meant that sometimes there were occasional weekends where I would have been available to work but nothing was offered. I started doing it again due to the current shortage, but this time I can basically tell them what hours I'm willing to work (within the regs), and I've not had an empty day yet. No stupid 4am start times - woohoo! If I want to have a weekend off (because I want to do something else, or I just can't be bothered), then it's not a problem.
@cameronk7165
@cameronk7165 2 жыл бұрын
This is the kind of setup I am after, I also work Mon-Fri in an office. I am a new pass though so no experience pursuing this kind of setup or driving commercially. Did you find it fairly easy to arrange this work agreement, any advice on how to go about it? I worry that lack of credible experience will make it so much more difficult to find a setup that works around the office job. Have heard many saying you can’t be picky when newly passed, but I can’t leave my current job just to get experience for weekend roles
@misterflibble9799
@misterflibble9799 2 жыл бұрын
@@cameronk7165 obviously our situations are quite different, but I didn't have much of a problem. In both cases, I was upfront with the agency - I told them my position, that I'd only be able to work weekends as I already had a full-time job, and if they were interested then great, but if not, then that's fine too. In both cases they took me on. So, the main bit of advice I'd give is just to be honest with them. It might take a bit of time before you earn the agency's trust and they start giving you more regular work. With my first agency, my experience was that they'd offer work to the people that worked most recently, so only doing the odd weekend, they'd tend to forget about you. The best thing to do was to ring them on Thursday or Friday morning to tell/remind them that you're available for the weekend. Agency clients that normally won't take a new pass/limited experience driver will often "bend" the rules if they're desperate. So, get yourself in the agency's head at the time when their client rings up and says "we really need someone urgently". Be reliable. You don't have to accept everything, but if you do accept, make sure you turn up and do the job. I've not seen it this time around, but last time I was doing supermarkets, every transport office would have a list on the wall/whiteboard of the agency drivers that hadn't turned up that day. Some drivers will register with multiple agencies, accept one booking, and then dump that if they get a better offer from someone else (often without even bothering to tell the first agency). Earn yourself a reputation as someone that is reliable and turns up. First time around, I started doing rigid work, moving to artics after about a year or so. Rigid work is often foodservice - delivery to pubs, restaurants, etc. It's physically hard work with lots of handball, and lots of early starts (typically 4am). Lots of transport companies like early starts (4-6am), so if you're willing to do that, that will help broaden the range of work you can get. In my case, I've already done my share of that when I was younger, and can't be bothered with it any more - I've already worked 5 days during the week, so if the agency wants me to work on the weekend, then they need to offer a sensible start time; if not, then I'll just stay at home. Second time around (after a break of about 15 years), I had enough experience to be able to pass an assessment with one of the supermarket chains (especially the reversing test; everyone is always terrible at reversing artics when they've only just passed). They're operating 24/7 and are desperate for drivers so they'll basically take whatever hours I'm willing to do. Remember that your regular job is classed as other work. If you're already doing Mon-Fri, then you can only do one day per fortnight as you have to have a 45h weekly rest every other week. You also need to make manual entries into the tacho for your other work at the start of each shift, which takes quite a bit of time. Make sure you're well clued up on Drivers' Hours Regs and other Theory Test type of stuff as the agency will probably test you. Don't be afraid to admit that you're new. Whenever I went into a new client/delivery point, I'd always say something like "It's my first time here, so feel free to assume I'm an idiot that knows nothing". A bit of self-deprecating humour always helps. Good luck.

Excellent advice from Mr Flibble - I do agency work and only weekends and never had any problems with that. If I want to do a Wednesday as well, for example, I just tell them and certainly when it’s busy they’ll find me something. Good luck & hope it works out for you.

Hi from France, I'm an Aussie who lives and works in France. I was looking forward to hearing it in French but not to be, quelle domage. I drive à T460 Renault here pulling à petrol tanker (for B.P.). The Renault is a really nice truck,i work 10 to 12 hour days,loading/delivering service stations in and around Lyon, so yeah they are very confortable,they are quite easy to drive (a four year old could drive them) fuel economy is just out of this world (between 23 litres and 28 litres per 100 kms) i really,really like the Renault. MAN is a piece of shit, i fucking hate those those trucks. I had a Scania for a while,I'm really sorry but i didn't like it,the sleeper (the bunk) was far too narrow,but hey no hate mail. I had an N12 back in Australia, i loved that truck. Love your chanel.

When in a shortage of Drivers, do Agencies see the risk of Cancellations? The Truck only earns when it has loads: how often do you run "Empty"? What is your usage % on hours run? How does UK compare with the Continent? I have a Friend about to be an Owner/Driver. Been told by another experienced, to have a Cash Flow back-up of 10K.
@Raul689
@Raul689 2 жыл бұрын
there is always a risk of cancelation. i run empty most of the times. but it depends on what kind of contracts the company has. maybe it gets paid for the round trip, like containers. UK is more relaxed than the continent. less paperwork but you wont do as much km on this traffic. or maybe if you get scotland runs

A very good overview of agency driving. You have to do it to understand it. However you can make it work for you as you are doing. Keep on keeping on !!!! I have a thing called the shite meter I.e. how much shite I'm willing to take in relation to what I'm being payed

Renaults look the best hands down. I'm sick of looking at Scanias cheese-graters. Fair-play for going to the garage to fix the window quickly even if it did ruffle some feathers. Some companies would put drivers heads outside the cab as long as it got the job done. Fk-em.

I was a recruiter/agency for another industry for a while so I know why they move you. Same reason you say, they are chasing the money. Its all business. What you really should be asking the employer is how much they are paying the agency for you. Find out their margin and then ask for a pay rise. If the employer likes you and wants to keep you, you will get it or they lose the contract. I'll left recruitment to become a truck driver, passed my class 1 a week ago, waiting for my dqc to start working!

31:50 - Not a camera. It's a surveying level. It's used to measure relative heights of ground. For example, if you're laying a drain or sewer, you need to make sure that it's always running downhill.

Bud the British company's always have pets that loose many good hard working folk . The ones that bullshit will always have the voice .And company's fail to see the ones that are taking the pee. Once was a man's job same as plant hire .But now it's full of back stabbers and I'm better than you . In UK you can leave a job because it's made difficult by your own work colleagues just because you work more hrs or get in an extra load . Trucking and plant hire have its own gender problems . Men back stab more than women . Sometimes it's a far better shift getting moaned at by the wife for not putting up that shelf .. God bless
