I live in the UK and often I long for home in Lagos and my youth when my dad used to grow lovely flowering plants in his compound. Hey 👋 friend from the US! I am fairly new to your channel but I admire you and your plans as well as your content! You are very knowledgeable and have an excellent sense of humor! I really appreciate your content, I agree with the comment about your tomatoes to start the seeds in a deeper container and I would also maybe sprinkle your manure on top of the coir. I would also suggest using to top your container with some type of plastic container to keep the seeds from drying and getting too wet and also keep the predators at bay but I’m not a great outside gardner 😊 I am always curious 👀 and fascinated by your channel please don’t change a thing!! Thanks, Ginger

Hi. I'm sure someone already mentioned it but if you have mosquito bits, you can break off some pieces and put in the water to prevent larvae. They come in a donut hole shape or granules. Only a quarter of the way through this video but love it. 😊

I just stumbled upon your channel and have found it so relaxing and entertaining, thank you for sharing your plants! I also wanted to let you know there’s a much easier way to hydrate and separate coco coir. You can use a double bucket/bin system where the top bucket has holes in the bottom and sits inside a solid bucket/bin. Place coco block in the upper bin, fill with water and stir occasionally until broken up (add water as needed) then remove the top bucket and allow the water to drain. Hope this helps save your hands in the future! Happy planting from your new subscriber 😊

We get mosquitoes where I live in the US really bad in the summer too. We can't leave water out too long either unless it is behind a screen. Also, nothing wrong with barbed wire. Better safe than sorry. Theives often go for places that are wide open because people think it is safe when it is not. Better to be safe than an easy target. Wonderful vid! Also regarding the tomatoes. Tomatoes are one of the easiest garden plants to grow for me, for some reason. Like some of the people have mentioned, that container you chose for germination is probably too shallow. You need something with more depth. Also, I may be wrong here. The seeds you are buying in Nigeria may no longer be viable, depending on how old they are. You don't even need to buy tomato seeds. I never do. I plant the seeds from whole tomatoes I use in cooking. I just get the seeds and spread them just below the surface of the soil in my chosen container. In fact, I start my tomatoes indoors in the winter by just germinating them in my house plants, then transfer them outside once the temp is warm enough. Germinating them in my house plants soil keep them small until I need to move them outdoors in late Spring, early Summer. I am in zone 6b. I have a profusion of fruiting tomato plants from the seeds germinated indoors in the winter. It's a bumper crop year of tomatoes for me. Also, always plant marigolds with you tomatoes as a companion plant. Tomato worms will not be a problem. They hate the smell of marigolds.

With tomato seeds, I found it much easier to plant them right away in a container big enough for a full grown plant rather than try transplanting them. They almost never survived when I transplanted. 😢 they grow so fast though. I actually got one of those big tubs for storage, put some drainage holes in the bottom, used the lid for run off, filled it to the top with leaves and straw, then put a soil/manure mix on top, and just directly planted seeds. You mostly just have to be careful about over watering when they're little, but they get quiet big very fast, and they're very thirsty plants. I just planted tomatoes at the end of May, and it's middle of July and I already have quiet a few new green tomatoes growing on their vines. Make sure they get like 6 hours of direct light or they will not be happy
@shelbyberry4349
@shelbyberry4349 Ай бұрын
Once the weight on the soil gets on the straw and leaves, it will compact it down for you, and typically I've had plenty of soil even filling it pretty full of leaves. They are so very hungry, so the nitrogen really helps get those vines up. Getting enough calcium can be a problem for them, but as long as you water them pretty thoroughly when they are big enough to flower they tend to avoid the blossom end rot, but if you are worried, you can crush eggshells until they're powder, and put them in your soil when you're filling it, and that does take a lot of the worry away.
