I don't know why, but it made me feel warm inside when you shared that most of your audience is women your age (including me! hi!). I also have a toddler, and I do relate a lot with what you share about parenthood and life. As I grow as an adult, more and more I'm grateful for the community of women in my life. Women power everything in this world, and we are so much more powerful when we come together.

Mila figuring out who to speak Russian and English to and how to speak the languages are helping her brain function on a more complex level than someone who is only exposed to one language. I believe this will help her in more ways than one throughout her life. Many times, it may seem like kids are struggling (and sometimes they may need help), but I believe most of the time what appears to be a struggle may just be problem solving and foundation-building for them. It's really great that her dad is so supportive of that! Please do not be self-conscious about speaking Russian in public... the fact that you can speak something other than English surpasses the limitations of some people and creates insecurities in them, so try not to worry about them. You are doing great and just focus on doing all you can do to raise a beautiful daughter and family! [From my personal experience... My (American) English-speaking dad wanted my Korean mom to speak Korean to me so I could grow up bilingual. She didn't believe that was possible without it hindering my English. I was fine. After my parents separated when I was 7, she stopped speaking Korean to me and I lost it. For a few more years, I could understand it (in spoken conversation) but I couldn't speak it fluently or read it at all. Currently, I only know food names, commands, some basic phrases and what my mom says when she yells at me lol.]

please please continue it ! i’m a psych major and there is no evidence it hinders children, and it truly improves their brain development. it is best to be exposed to a second language as early as possible when your brain is still malleable.

I completely agree. As someone who's learning another language that I didn't speak at home when I was a child, I WISH I could've been taught from a young age. You can build a deeper connection to your culture, and it's much easier to learn it that way than when you're older. Also, knowing languages is a very beneficial thing in life so there's that.

fun fact for americans: when candles say "bougie", it's just because they're sold in canada too, so the labels legally need to have both official languages (english and french), and "candle" in french is "bougie", and "parfumee" is "scented". so, it just says "scented candle" XD

I wish we could talk more about how much we sometimes lose ourselves as first time mothers. Especially when we’re in our 30’s. It’s very rewarding but also very traumatic. We go so many years with our bodies being ours, caring only for ourselves and our spouses being able to do anything we want in our peace. Then you have a baby and everything becomes about them. You’re so tired, you have to relearn your body, and your hormones are out of control. But the love you feel is so rewarding. Watching them grow up and thrive is so rewarding and those little humans become your life. I love my son to the moon and back but sometimes I miss my old self.

Yes! I became a mom this year at 33 yrs old and one of the things I kept saying was how having a baby in my 30s was harder than I expected because I've been on my own for so long! I don't think that's something you experience when you become a mom at a young age!

Im not a mom, not even close to it for the next few years. But i love reading this kind of comment. So interesting and intriguing at the same time. I have my mom and she's never told me how she felt during these first years... letting her young self to become a mother. When you are the daughter its just so natural... sometimes it feels like our mom were born a mom😅😅😅 its so intriguing this kind of love... i just cant understand yet. I do try. But when someone i love hurts me i just disconnect from "it". However by your comments is like living between so much love and caos 😅 its makes me few quiet unmotivated to have a kid 😅 even though it looks like a lifetime experience

My son is one month old today. No one tells you about grieving parts of your identity pre-motherhood. I’m 29 and my husband and I have been together for four years. We are getting the hang of parenthood and love our son to death. But we recognized that we really had to process all we had left behind. I also wasn’t ready to feel so uncomfortable in my postpartum body. Everything was so painful and foreign that I honestly wanted my pregnant body back. I think what’s great about being a mother in 2021 is that I feel no shame in having complex emotions about motherhood. I’m grateful that these are conversations we can have instead of hiding behind a perfect mom persona.
@noemiromero584
@noemiromero584 2 жыл бұрын
@@lemnjuiceaholic I’m a first time at 33 as well. My pregnancy was so hard. I was only pregnant for 25 weeks and part of it I spent on bedrest. My body betrayed me and went into preterm labor. My son stayed in the NICU for 6 months fighting for his life. The only reason he’s alive is because of heroic nurses. Watching him almost lose his life, code blues, crash carts all aiming for your baby. It was so traumatizing. At some point I thought I would never come home with him and I didn’t know how I was going to be able to cope. He’s 11 months now, supposed to be 7.5 and he’s such a joy. He came home on oxygen and hardly needs it anymore. So on top of being a first time mom, I’m a mom to a baby with medical needs. He’s a true miracle. I’ve been so focused on him that I haven’t mourned my body, my mind, my motherhood. To say it’s been an adjustment is an understatement lol. But you know what? I would not change any of it. It was all in God’s will. He brought us through it and I have so much love in my life. My son makes me smile every single day and all of that trauma stayed in the NICU when he left. Being a mom is one of the best most scariest thing that’s happened in my life. But yes I still miss me. I don’t think I’ll ever be the same.

One thing I've learned as a parent (8yo son, baby due any day) is you can't borrow against future tragedy... I've found myself trying to think through exactly how I'd feel and react if some unlikely scenario happened, and I realize I'm trying to dull it like it I won't feel so bad if it really did happen. But you can't "pre-feel" pain like that, and in the meantime I've stressed myself out imagining it! So I shut those thought trains down now because it doesn't help anything. I've also been doing some short term counseling over Zoom because I'm having a lot of stress with pregnancy complication, and I had a good experience with therapy in my 20s, and would definitely urge anyone whose life and happiness is being disturbed by these kinds of thoughts to try to find a good therapist you connect with. Not everyone is the right fit but when you find someone who really understands you and how your brain works it can be amazing and help so much.

Maria- someone can have all the bells and whistles, the greatest background with all the props, expensive makeup and hair just done at the salon- the best camera and microphone and lighting set up money can buy, know which angles are most “attractive” but none of it means anything at all if they don’t have heart. I’ll pick you face to face, just woke up hair in a bun, glasses on with a cup of tea and a plain background (or just a room in your house) recording on your iPhone with one light on over pretty much everything else. You raised us. You’re our family. You’ve been there for us through and through and shared all the highs and lows of your life with us. You are our best friend, that feeling of wanting to go “home”. You’re who we feel comfortable with to be vulnerable. You are amazing. You are perfect. You don’t need to be like the others because that would mean you wouldn’t be YOU and we love YOU. The genuine, honest, REAL, loving, vulnerable, Maria. ❤️

Children are not part of my plan in life. I don't consider myself being capable of exactly what you described it takes to bring another human being into this world and take care of them. That is why I REALLY admire you Maria, and the rest of the people who embark in such complex yet fulfilling journey such as parenting. And being the absolute Queen of ASMR, established as a talented creator for so long, shouting out to new asmrtists like Starling (which I have been following for a while now) and to keep learning new things from them and even willing to put in practice their techniques says it all about what kind of humble angel you are. I don't know if you read this so far afterwards, but never in human history have we been flooded with negative news the way we are now. We get all the misery that happened around the world the passed few minutes presented to us all day. It's a lot of misery and many minutes. It's not really natural for us. You're not selfish for not listening to all of it. It's too much for most of us.

As bizarre as this may seem, I’ve taken so much comfort recently, in telling myself that “I am not alone” in whatever it is I’m feeling.. whether it be stress regarding the kids, my marriage, money, the state of my damn house at times, my sanity! I just have to tell myself exactly as you once worded it in quite an old video of yours “there is someone out there experiencing it the same way you do” I cannot remember the video, but it is so damn TRUE!! I am male, 58 years old, and I enjoy your asmr videos as much as anyone else most of the time. And at my age, I have been experiencing natural visual, audio and tactile asmr as opposed to video asmr for longer than you and likely longer than most of your viewers as well. My observation over the years of experience as a standard person, adult and former parent is that we keep changing. Our perceptions change and our senses change and our views change and our beliefs change, and we will never know what it all will culminate into until the end, but we never return to our former selves.

In 2020 I finally got my necessary OCD diagnosis, and began EMDR therapy (something I had never heard of before beginning- a hypnotic therapy I believe to be so underrated and extremely beneficial.) These two steps changed my life for the better in so many ways. I still have obsessive thoughts, but it’s so much easier to understand the true nature of where they are coming from versus feeling ashamed of them. You'll look back, and the little details we were anxious about in the past dissolve, and the moments and memories of the process to where we land are what we are left with and are cherished.

I’m the same way with the news, Maria. I think deeply-feeling people (empaths) are hit harder with death, disaster, and destruction. It’s okay to protect your peace and sanity - there are problems that I can’t solve. Spending my time and energy obsessing over the pain is not productive or helpful to myself or the victims of the terrible event. Give yourself that grace!!

I understand feeling like you don’t have enough close friends. I’m a veteran military wife so I’ve been all over the place in the last decade+ so I have lots of acquaintances, but close friends are far fewer because we always wind up on opposite sides of the globe. Your videos, especially videos like this one, make me feel like I have something in common with another woman my age, same sleep-deprived parent problems, same 30something woman daily struggles and laughs. Thanks for helping me feel not so alone. My son absolutely loves you too. We’re both mega-fans! Thank you for the comfort and peace you bring to millions of us, and special thanks from a military wife & son who you’ve been unknowingly connecting with and truly helping for years now ❤️ you are an amazing human. I’m sure you don’t even realize how many people, most of them perfect strangers, absolutely love you for the comfort, love, and sleep you help us to find when we need it ❤️ much love! Maria - it is also so great to hear you talk about life. I love these videos that you do once in a while. You mentioned that your daughter Mila is still with you in your bedroom - No matter what people say - enjoy those moments as long as you can. She will eventually go to her room, but every moment you have with her near you is a great moment. The bond you have with her is something so unique and wonderful. The more you can build it, the better. SHe will eventually be in her room and sometimes with the door closed doing her own thing. The moments you have with her now will build the bond between you both and her. When she needs to speak to someone and when she needs someone to just hold her and let her know it will be OK - that bond you spent time building with her will be the reason she chooses to come to you and just hug you... maybe with no words. Some parents wonder why their children do not connect with them like that, but these connections are built over the years and developed. Openness is something that is forged from the beginning. It IS possible, of course, to develop it later but so much harder, and it is not present when she needs to have it. The love you show her and the love you give her by being with her and close to her, letting her know you are there and letting her indulge in that well of love you have for her will stand her in great stead later in life. She will know that she is loved. It will be a knowledge that is with her at her core. That love will mean the world and help her to be her best. We have only a few years to show our children how we love them and what love is. WE have only a few years to help them show love to someone and know what real consistency of love can feel like. They are children for a short time. In the blink of an eye, they have grown up, so I love hearing you enjoy being with her. You sound like a wonderful mother, and I wish you every success. Nothing is wasted, and every chance you take to encourage and strengthen is a valuable deposit made. Just my two cents worth ...... It is not the exclusive and definitive truth ... it is just my opinion, experience, and learning.

Maria: you are SO right about the ages of 2-3 being the “magical times”. My kids are 8,9, and 11 and I miss those young years TERRIBLY now🥺 You have a great perspective though when it comes to being thankful for the “little things”. I don’t dwell on the HUGENESS of the world, I focus on the little things I can control and give thinks for the little things. Even though my kids are getting older, I still relish the time I get to spend with them every day. My youngest daughter fell asleep on me Saturday night….and I LOVED it. Each picture my kids draw of the family always shows a happy family, full of smiles and sunshine. To me: that shows me how THEY are viewing the world and their family. And that shows me IM doing an okay job. Thanks for doing all you do, and thanks for doing these little chats! I love seeing the human side of things, and love hearing the updates from your family! Probably 3/4 of the world’s parents sleep in the same room as their little one. Not from choice, but for logistical reasons. It’s only we, in the West, who are fortunate enough to have another bedroom. Whatever suites your family is right for you. That’s all that matters. 🥰

Yes I thought it was the norm for children to sleep in their own rooms until I had kids, then I realized it's more of the norm for them to sleep in your room until they're about 5 or 6 and can handle being independent (to a degree). All children are different too. My first baby would not sleep unless they were next to us and our second who is 3 months now won't sleep unless they're alone in their own room in total darkness and quiet. It's so refreshing though to see how many parents do still sleep with their children. I feel that parents are more honest these days about the struggle of parenting where as before everyone wanted you to think their children/life are perfect.

For many years , I have suffered from depression from things that happened to myself from a very early childhood, which turned to drinking , needless to say I disliked myself ,what I had become . I stopped drinking in March of this year , it's hard but my children are my motivation, I love them so much. Life throws some rubbish at us and we feel as though we get past one problem ,then there's something else. Listening to you today made me realise I'm not alone , you maybe far away, but sharing feelings not keeping it bottled up , is a fantastic way of unloading your rubbish. You are doing really well one step at a time , I know no matter how far away in the world we are , your a massive inspiration to us all.xxx

One of the best decisions I made in the last couple of years is to stop following the news. You become aware of most of the major news passively anyway because you still hear people talking about them, see headlines in passing, etc. And if you feel like you ought to know more about something, you can always go look it up. But I realized that I don't actually need to keep up with the blow-by-blow news, I don't need to scroll through it every day, with all the news articles competing to see who can make us the most scared and depressed to get more clicks while adding no actual new information. I noticed when I stopped paying attention to it, I was basically just as informed as before, but SO MUCH happier. A religious community can be great too. I am not really spiritual at all, but religious communities are some of the best, and only, real COMMUNITIES left. I think a lot of the alienation and purposelessness people feel is just that they don't feel like part of any real-life communities anymore. Online communities help a little, but it's not the same as a group of people you go to meet with every week, who you trade babysitting duties with, who you help through hard times, with a real diversity of people where you all have to learn to get along instead of everyone loudly proclaiming their opinions and then blocking each other any time they disagree. Personally, I really wish there were some kind of religion where you could get that without the spiritual stuff, which has never appealed to me. Unfortunately, that kind of thing doesn't really seem to exist (and any time someone tries to make one, it just become an obnoxious atheist convention). Forget "spiritual, but not religious", we need more places for people to be "religious, but not spiritual"! But if you're looking for a more spiritual community too, then even better! There are a lot of them out there to find!

As a parent of an almost 4 year old girl, I feel this in my soul. I'll wake up in the middle of the night sometimes because of anxiety that bubbles up over the safety of my child. It's overwhelming at times, and you are absolutely right when it comes to information: ignorance is bliss. Parents stress enough about imaginary scenarios where something catastrophic happens to their child without hearing information that helps to affirm those fears. Worry not, mama bear, it's completely normal and unavoidable as a parent I'm afraid. Just keep your head up and remember that you have those feelings because you care about her which is how it should be! Try not to let it consume you.

Thats sweet. My daughter used to come in so much that we set up a little air mattress on the floor we called the "Nina nest". Enjoy every minute! Mine are 19 and 21 now and I'd give anything to go back and do it all over again. I would!!
